Hi and welcome to the snowy Resort Guide. This is Connor Donaldson. And I'm really proud to say where I'm on the gondola here. A Revelstoke mountain resort with Carly Moran. Hi, Carly.

0:16

Hi. Great to have

0:17

you. Thank you for having us on the gun blow right now for our listeners. We're looking at the Columbia River Valley.

0:24

Yep. Columbia River Valley. Mount Baby is just across the river. Gorgeous McPherson to the right, maybe to the left. And the Columbia River Going right through town.

0:36

Okay, Carly, tell us what you do here at the resort.

0:39

I am the communications manager. Revelstoke Mountain Resort.

0:43

And are you a secure A snowboarder?

0:45

I am. The skier dabbled in the snowboarding.

0:51

Did you ski today?

0:53

I did. Okay. Yeah, It was lovely.

0:55

Tell us about your snow conditions.

0:56

Ah, well, right now we are number one for most snow in North America. No big deal bragging. So that's exciting. It's been amazing. Two weeks here. We got off to a really strong start on. Looks like we're gonna have another storm next week. So now we're excited

1:18

for the time based context for our listeners Were in December right now. words over the holidays, and it's ah, it's a nice quiet afternoon about

1:28

it's quiet, but this is typically it's December 27th. This is typically are busiest day, probably, but it doesn't really feel that busy and conditions air great. So, um yeah, it's kind of near the end of the day and we're watching the sun almost set behind Bigbie and pretty much feels like we have this place to ourselves.

1:50

Does that's beautiful. And any background those folks that you might be hearing that is the gondola because we're on the gondola. Because why don't, um as it's the holidays, where's everyone coming from and how they get in here?

2:3

I think a lot of the holiday traffic is kind of BC focused. I think you were just coming. I mean, there's a lot of people that travel from Ontario to come. Ah, lot of, um, like Seattle, California. But a lot. I think we're going to see a lot of traffic this year with the icon pass cool eso a lot of Americans, but we have blackout dates on our icon base past, so we're not seeing a lot of Americans at the moment. On the icon passed, but that will come next week.

2:34

Right? So the holidays air blacked

2:36

out. Yeah, but I think lots people from Kelowna and people coming up for the weekend. And

2:41

so if people are, if it's a lot of regional visitors driving it, how did the foreign visitors of the outside of the province visitors get here? People with driving or they flying

2:51

Kelowna. We're recommending people fly to Kelowna. It's kind of the most direct route. And then we've got shuttles, a shuttle service that's running six shuttles a day. Well, um, to get people here, so it's kind of the most direct way you can also fly to Calgary, Um, and rent a car. Um, but personally, I think the shuttle is a great option because you can have somebody else drive you down Highway one. It's kind of a nice break after you've flown from wherever you're coming from renting a car in Calgary. It's convenient to, but you actually don't really even need a car when you come to Revelstoke because we've got shuttle services that run from downtown up to the resort on. You can basically walk anywhere that you want downtown, so I think the shuttle is the way to go.

3:36

Tell me, let's re enter guests here and downtown versus on the mountain at the resort. What kind of distance are we talking about? You said their shuttles. You don't need a car. People are getting around pretty easy.

3:51

Yeah, The downtown from the resort is only about a 10 to 15 minute drive. Um, the resort shuttle is extremely affordable. I don't I think it's five or six bucks per trip. Um, and we're so lucky that the town is so close because people are like a lot of locals will just come up for two or three laps in the morning and go toe work. Or kids can get out of school a little bit early and come up for a lap or two in the afternoon. So I think that's one of the like features I like most about this resort is that it's so close to downtown. It's not a big mission to get up here, and

4:25

it doesn't feel like it feels like you can just run into know pretty quickly. I actually just dropped someone off for an afternoon of skiing. A small child is enjoying ripping some turns. Hopefully,

4:36

right now, maybe we'll see him.

4:38

We'll see her. Fantastic. Um, okay, so then when I think about ski in, ski out, I mean, if people are coming here from all over the place, there's a combination options in town and there's a combination options that are true. Ski in, ski out right here

4:56

on the hill yet Sutton Place hotel luxury condo style rooms ski in, ski out. Um, yeah, if you can, you can make it happen. I think that's one of the best experiences you can kind of stay up here. And once you've kind of explored all that the resort has to offer, you can go downtown and check it out.

5:16

Wow. You know, I say there one time and I had the luxury of staying there. And the thing that most impressed me was the gear room. Yes, because the gear room was right outside the gondola entrance. It was like having your own personal your area. It felt more like a home.

5:35

Yeah, and it's got laundry. All the rooms have their own laundry, a gear room that I would just die for in any house that I've lived in um, and then full, full kitchens. So you can kind of be totally set up there. Just have your base camp.

5:52

We definitely did the take advantage of lunch and go have your own

5:56

food and right?

5:57

Why not? It was great. It was a musical experience. But I've also stayed in some of the places downtown as well. And it seems like there's an abundance of lodging of every time for visitors. Yeah, fair to

6:7

say. Oh, yeah. I don't know how many, um, but lots of hotels. Um, lots of really cool, hostile kind of options happening and smaller guest houses. Um, super, I think everybody who's running these just super friendly. Um, yeah. So it's kind of interesting to meet the people who run those because they're passionate about the town and they want to welcome people and they want to give them the inside scoop on where to go in any season.

6:35

The people are saying the stoke levels high with the locals.

6:38

Sure. Let's. Is that a new tagline way you

6:43

have to pay you for that? No, not at all for science reading. So the thing I love about rebels like is that people do have People are genuinely excited to live here and be here. And I think you're totally right with the service industry showing all of that enthusiasm and that reflects. Well, even when you walk in the door here as a visitor for the first time, I really like how I come in from the parking lot and then staggered right there for me is guest services Snow School tuneup shop. Yeah, it's all later perfectly. And the gun was

7:18

right there. They really they thought that one through, I guess you just walk through the village. I mean, the village is small, but has everything you need. Um, yeah. And then you kind of end up at the gondola and then choose your own adventure from

7:29

there. So, in terms of getting here just to finish that off, I mean, we're talking about winter roads. I love the idea of of getting here via shuttle. Um, and clone is

7:39

only two hours away. 2.5.

7:41

2.5.

7:42

Calgary is for 4.5,

7:45

just depending on road conditions. Yeah, You know what? I think I haven't done that. The Kelowna drive when the drive from Calgary to Revelstoke

7:55

is stunning. It's stunning. I mean, it's it's a beautiful drive. And if you're not tired from flying or doing it at night or in a snowstorm, highly recommend it. Um, but, yeah, cologne is just a little bit closer, a little bit easier. Um, and yeah. I mean, you could rent a car in Kelowna

8:14

as well, but Yeah,

8:16

I guess I do. Pretty. If I was gonna do it,

8:18

I would take the trouble. Okay, fair enough. Um, so there's a couple of things I want to talk about because you mentioned tagline earlier. And I think the resort can say like it summarizes itself well, in the way that it shows. Well, because you have the most vertical.

8:39

Yeah, the most vertical in North America is our claim to fame. Um, the new kind of tag line that we're running with is big mountain train, legendary powder, small town

8:53

vibes. That kind of sounds like the tram vert of what people are looking for.

8:57

My actually mix up. I think it's legendary powder, Big mountain train, small town drives.

9:3

That's no problem. That sounds good. Either way. So big mountain terrain. So it uh, it looks like a big mountain. And I was down. I was down at the bottom stay with a visitor from Germany and she was looking up with the top. Being like that is so picturesque that it's so beautiful. That's this is, I think, was the word she used. She said, Uh uh, she said, in a beautiful German accent, a winter wonderland. This looks like a winter wonderland. Exactly.

9:33

Yeah, I'm just kind of looking up here, but yeah, it's it's really stunning. You kind of don't get the full gist of everything till you're at the top of the Stoke chair because the peak that you can kind of see from the Stoke chair is the sub peak. So there is a lot of stuff that's all behind there. So you get kind of a different, even bigger view once you enter the North Pole and you can kind of see the top of the Mackenzie peek.

10:0

Okay. And I think this was a nice segue A into pulling out the trail maps and talking visitors through what they're looking at when they get here. Okay, you will find the link to the trail Mac mapping the description down below. Listeners and way are currently on the revelation. Gun. Was I right? Yeah. Okay. And so what's what's funny? Quirky, funny, but not funny, huh? Is that there's too little gone ballistic. There's a small gondola segment in a large Gunness gondola segment, right? And you just have to transfer over. But it's all the same. Gondola. Basically,

10:34

yeah, yes. So we're on the 2nd 1 right now. Ah, the longer one and we are going up. A famously known run called Kill the Banker. It's been named by Powder as one of the top 10 inbound ski runs in North America. Um, and it's it's definitely I don't know how many meters it is. We can look at the stats later, but it's just continuous, continuous fall line. We put a summer trail up here two or three years ago, and I think it's about 3.5 kilometres up. Um, I don't know what the elevation is, but it's it's continuous,

and yet it's one of the funnest runs. If you can hit it on a good day. I like pillows and your legs are super strong, and you've been doing your Stairmaster exercises. It is great.

11:28

I have I have found my way. I have found my way to a wonderfully large cliff That direction one day. Yes. Which is, uh, one of the things I also lovely

11:39

right in there. I think I can see the big boulder field in

11:42

there. The culture here of you, uh, don't just blindly follow tracks.

11:47

No, I have three lines in here that I ski every time because I've deviated from those and myself on top of on top of Cliff,

11:57

I guess the cool thing for visitors that was Anyone can watch, probably anywhere from intermediate I intermediate to expert level athletes from the gondola on this amazing run.

12:9

It's like the best entertainment for your guns, right? When people are hitting it, it's it's non stop heckling. And yeah, you can you can see all the different ways that people do it.

12:20

And then once we get up to the top, that dropped us off and then describe people the layout of the mountain once I get off the gondola.

12:27

Yeah, so we're We're actually almost at the top right now, so I'm looking up. Um, when you get off the gondola to the right. We've got a really nice kind of look out building called the Mackenzie Outpost, and there's amazing burgers and sandwiches there. So, um, and also a, um, a warming hut. And then further down to the right, there is the Stoke chair, but new. This year we've added stellar chair, which is the big news.

So now you can actually go to the left at the top of the gondola, which wasn't an option up until this year. Um, so yeah, and it's just a quick little John that's about, I don't know, maybe 400 meters down a little slope and you'll get to stellar chair. So stellar has six runs. Ah, three Blue three green. It's a great spot for intermediate and beginner skiers and people who just kind of want to warm up their legs before they hit the rest of the mountain. Sure, um, and then stellar chair is also giving people direct access to our other chair, the Ripper. Eso. That's kind of exciting because it's just helping kind of spread people around the mountain this year. So instead of everybody going off the gondola and going to the Stoke, you can now go to to other places, and it's kind of freeing up a lot of other zones,

13:45

right? I mean, I don't think I've ever been here and felt like there was a in a real lineup anyway. But the fact that you're reducing lineups for your visitors is hilarious

13:57

yet. Amazing. Yeah, yeah. No, it really It really feels like when you're once you get up. Um, it really feels like you're kind of just skiing with your own crew. You don't see too many people.

14:8

And how do you describe, you know, the kind of the aspect. So a large part of the mountain is facing. What direction is that facing where we're facing down to the river valley,

14:18

That's west. So most of the mountainous facing north, Um and then So if you get up to the top of the stoke chair, um, and you go right again, you're skiing in the south side like there's south bowl there. So

14:37

if you're going lookers,

14:39

right lookers, rytas, South Pole, and then everything else to the left is north. So North Pole, the Ripper chair and basically stellar, all kind of north facing

14:49

okay. And then if you go lookers left. You've got options other than the stellar chair to get into North Bull and head over to the Ripper. Is that

15:0

right? Uh, not into North Bull, but over over to the Ripper chair. And there's, like, really nice glades over there. Snowboarders like it cause it was not a lot of traversing. The runs are a little bit shorter. Um, yeah, it's a it's a really nice sewn over there

15:17

too. Okay, So if I am a fresh beginner, where am I starting? My day,

15:23

i e I think you should start at stellar chair. Um, do a couple laps. There is a really fun fun one called practically pro. Um, it's kind of it's kind of funny, because the stellar zone is our intermediate area, but right under the chair lift us a bunch of cliffs, so it doesn't look that friendly, but, um, the blue angry runs air very easy to find. And, um, they're just, you know, to the right and the left of the chair. So it's a It's a really easy zone to navigate its super small, the chairlift. Only I think it only ascends like 400 70 or almost 500 feet of vertical. So it's really short takes about three minutes

16:9

or some of our listeners. That's their whole home, I'm sure.

16:13

Yeah, I feel it line from Ontario. It feels it feels a little bit like that, but it's still fun. And then, um and then you can take the over easy trail all the way to, um,

16:24

the Ripper, right? And then there's a green run from top to bottom on the river. Right?

16:28

Um, I think it's more well, yeah, yeah, there's You could take the downtown ER and they've they've levelled a lot of things out, and it's Yeah, there's some nice, easy riding around their thief thing that I always thought was funny before we had this zone was we have the last Spike, which is basically our only other green trail on the mountain, basically zigzags from the top of a Stoke chair all the way to the base. But it was like the most dangerous and hard to ski run on the mountain, I thought, because it crosses yeah, 15 kilometers long, and it's a cat track. So for anyone who is learning, it was so hard because it's so narrow.

Um, so anyway, now we've got legit green trails, Nice Melo train over there, and they're wide, so it just kind of more friendly.

17:19

So as another orientation point, I always find it interesting that there's a couple of intersections that are almost important here to know about. And I think the one intersection is when you're going from the Stoke chair and you're going anywhere lookers, right? You you have a lot of options, but it's the isn't the is it the ninja traverse that brings you back to the Stoke chair? Yeah. Otherwise you do

17:46

the whole Yes. Don't miss the ninja traversed. It's pretty well marked. Um but yeah, the new trippers kind of traverse is all the way from the very far edge of the South. Bold back to the Stoke chair. So you want to hit that? Unless you want to ski all the way to the base,

18:3

which is a big run,

18:4

that's a long one,

18:5

because North America's largest vertical yes, okay. And then the other intersection that I think is helpful is kind of that intersection, um, like its that its that getting from Ripper to top of the gondola again and then, um, it's pretty obvious.

18:25

So that is another cat track called the Downtown. Er, um you can't really go wrong on that side, um, to get back to Italy either spit you out of the top of the gondola or the Stoke chair. But it is pretty much the only way that you can get back from the Ripper share to the Stoke.

18:46

And then I think you provided these stats, but tell of the listeners how much the mountain is dedicated to each beginner. Intermediate expert.

18:56

Um, beginner is 12%. Intermediate is 42. I'm going to say an expert ISS 46. The rest. Yeah, the rest. I think I got that right.

19:12

But so it's an early mountain.

19:14

Some would say. I guess it depends where

19:17

you're skiing. Sure, Sure, sure. You're aptly pointed out that there's lots for everyone. Let's talk about some of the more intermediate and advanced stuff. Okay, So, North Pole, North Pole, It looks like it's got a lot of stuff coming off of a cliff. Cliff tops.

19:35

They're not really know anywhere. Where there is an entrance is not a cliff. Okay, um, it looks a bit steep. on the trail map.

19:44

But if I'm near to the resort, I can see if I can see not a gate but like an entrance with a sign. And I know I can get down there and it's

19:51

accurate. Yeah, yeah, Anything that has a sign is not unless it's a cliff sign. It's not gonna be

19:59

safety moment. Follow the signs provided by your local.

20:3

The Ski Patrol doesn't really funny, uh, like intro for all the new staff. And he says this line like cliff signs at Arm Our art aren't dares or something like that. Like it's not a challenge. It's actually Cliff. No, but, um, yeah, there's some nice entrances into the North Bull. My favorite is sweet spot, Um, and you can actually ski from the top of the Stoke chair over to sweet spot and then into the bowl. There's some lovely options there. Um, I like sweet spot a little bit better than a drop in because the drop in traverse, which is a little bit higher, you have to boot

20:50

pack. Okay, so that's when I see those people walking from the top of the stoke chair. That's where they're going.

20:56

Um that's a sub peak hike. But the lemming line is also a boot pack. So if you don't want to do Abou pack out to the North Pole a gist slide on over

21:4

to sweets like a five minute boot back

21:6

on the limb. England. Yeah, it's not long. Just, you know, if your lazy or tired

21:12

and then you said you mentioned this a peak. What's that about?

21:15

Um, Well, the sub peak hike starts right from the top of the Stoke chair. Um, I don't know how long it is. It usually takes people about 20 minutes to take up 30 minutes. Kind of depends on your Stairmasters.

21:33

It looks like an escalator or like a steps.

21:35

Everybody's got their different, like weighs about it. Some people just kind of put their skis on their shoulder. Some people are like, Looks like they're going into the backcountry, strapping them on their backpacks. Um, yeah, that's however you want to get up

21:50

there, and that's an inbounds

21:51

area. Yep, that's all. Inbounds. Um, everything off into the North Pole is inbounds. You contribute verse the ridge. Once you get to the top of sub peak and go out of bounds. But you need all of your avalanche safety gear with you. And, um, yeah, for anyone who backcountry skis, you just obviously need to be prepared.

22:12

Sure. Um, when I'm looking at this trauma, especially on the North Pole, it looks like a lot of trees. And I've been impressed over the years. How much the Glades just keep getting

22:24

better? Yeah. Tally ho and, um, Clyde Secret Glades. They've done a lot of blading up there. That's kind of more south facing runs off the top of the Stoke chair, But just, like, beautiful, beautiful runs, Um, and those all spit you out at the ninja Traverse.

22:43

Right? The gondolas stopping. Hopefully it's not done for the day.

22:48

Better check the hours of operation.

22:54

And then, uh, where haven't we talked about on this trail, Matt? So you've got some warming huts lives and I such pretty recently, wasn't it?

23:2

Yeah, we added a warming hut at the top of the Ripper couple of years ago. It's really lovely. Um, And then, as I mentioned, there isn't Kensi outpost at the top of the gondola with a warming hut, and, um, some food options. They have an amazing breakfast wrap their that I would totally recommend really good burgers. Um, and then what else? Uh oh. And a warming hut at the top of the structure.

23:29

Right? And you mentioned food, and I I'm a big fan of it. What do you got? What are your options on the mountain?

23:36

Uh, revelation lodge, which is kind of at the midpoint of, um where the two gondolas where you have to switch over were kind of sitting outside of that right now. They've got a lovely kind of cafeteria style menu. Um, the faux definitely would recommend the foot. What Revelation Lodge. It's my favorite

23:58

nice, hearty bowl of soup.

24:0

Yep. Yeah, delicious. Um, and then at the base, um, you've got the Rockford, uh, and it's Asian fusion. Really good, Rahman. But also, like lovely steaks and seafood and all that kind of stuff. It looks fancy. Fancy yours. It's No, it's not that fancy.

You can walk in there with your ski boots and it's OK. Yeah. No, it's a great spot for a prey. And then, but the more casual option at the base is ah, the Mackenzie Commons Tavern, which is just across the Plaza Um and they actually just opened a new food truck this year. Wrote So there, Cooking all the meals in the food truck. Ah, you can order Take out or you can eat inside. And it's more of a pub. Kind of feel

24:49

very cool. And then what was I thinking about? There is another food option. No

24:58

lead.

24:59

They get Yeah, caffeine at the base. We're just going through the gondola terminals. Turbulence?

25:8

Both. Um, yeah. Levy gets a really great cafe. Amazing coffees. They've got lots of great sandwiches, smoothies, all that stuff snacks

25:20

before we put the trail map away. What's your favorite run here?

25:27

It kind of changes gun conditions. One of my favorite lines. If I'm going to do a lunch lap, um is to head up to the top of the Stoke and then hit three bears on There's a sneaky little traverse that will get you back to the Stoke chair quickly. Um, so if I'm lucky, I can do two of those for my lunch break and come back if you get stuck too far down. He's kind of ski the whole north pool and then end up at the Ripper, cheering it's a longer lab.

25:59

I'm trying to think about how excited I get to tell people Revelstoke and some of the amazing runs I try to tell people to try to get to and find. But it I think on the list for me is when you just get off the Ripper chair and you go lookers left. Yeah, just keep going. And those trees over there that spit you out on the Big Woody

26:24

eventually. Yeah. Yeah.

26:27

And then even just look directly lookers right of the river chair. Feel like the pitch on those trees is just ah Houghton and holler in good time.

26:38

And they've done a little bit more glazing over there too. So

26:41

it's really nice. Um, I I also have a claim to fame. I broke my ass in the trees, uh, in the critical path Glades.

26:52

00 Those are also some of my favorite trees.

26:56

Yeah, it gets exciting.

26:57

Yeah, it does. It does. You gotta watch the

27:0

cat tracks with the, uh it's the 4 30 day five. Only just gonna be care if we got to know your limits and stay within it.

27:7

Definitely. So you know what I mean. The cool

27:10

thing about looking at this is that there's there's a ton of terrain because there's three chairs leading off the God. I think it's fairly intuitive for visitors. And I think the cool part is that you could just explore because there's so many trees that I feel like the trees that you could just go down the same path and just end up hitting like four different runs around the Tally Ho glades or like,

27:34

you know, yeah. And I mean, if you're coming here and just kind of exploring, I think the best thing to do is kind of hit a run and then hit the Glades on the side of the run and kind of always know what side of the run your on. And then you can kind of just keep going deeper and deeper into the unknown areas, like you don't want to just get into a totally new zone. But if you're kind of always know that you've gotta run on your right, then you can kind of just explore things

28:3

that way. That is good advice, E. I think the other thing that I thought was really amazing about Revelstoke was one time we had a like an unmanaged, manageable e large group, and we kept lapping the stoking the Ripper. And no matter what, because there's different abilities in the group, we're bombing through the trees, exhausted, taking breaks. Someone's cruising casually down the blue like, and we're catching up with them on cat tracks. And then someone else was cruising casually down the green, and we just constantly meet up at the bottom together. And it was It just felt like it was super accessible because everyone was happy at their level.

28:44

You must have very good group dynamics.

28:46

It was It was It was a true

28:49

Christmas miracle. Oh, wow. Perfect. I don't know if that happens to everyone. Sounds like you just had a good group.

28:56

Management, Good group management. Yeah, it's like boot manager. Um, okay. I think we could probably, uh Oh, you know what? Here's the question. Do I keep seeing all these pros and all these experts in these

29:13

videos? Are they

29:14

always in the Greely Bowl? Is that where I'm seeing all this filming that looks

29:18

like Rebel Stone? No. Most of the filming that we do, um, is done in the tally ho Glades. So I would say, Ah lot of it the morning or just a lot of the marketing material that we're putting out. Um, we've got a full time FILMER and photographer on staff this year, which is super exciting, and we send those guys up with some of the athletes that we have on our protein. We send them up early with the first tracks program, which is actually open to the public. So first tracks is you pay $50. You get to load the gondola, um, at 7 30 have access to a certain amount of runs before anybody else can load the gondola.

So you're typically getting 3 to 4 runs before the public gets up there. So that's a really awesome program. I think it's like one of the best products that we offer at the resort. It's affordable. It's just amazing to have, like, a part of the mountain to yourself and get a bunch of runs in. And then you're already up there for the day, so you just kind of start your day, Um, so we send our PhilMor up with that program and most of the train that they open is kind of around Tally ho to the left line. So a lot of our footage is coming from that area.

30:43

Well, and, you know, we talked about guests and coming. You also have a ski host program. You have a multitude of programs that are open to people who are never been your performance.

30:53

Yeah, there is a bunch of products through ski school. Um, one of them is We've got an inbounds mountain guide who will meet folks at 12. 30 at the top of the gondola and kind of just give them a lay of the land. So it's not a lesson. They're basically just gonna ask you over to the Stiller, chair up the Stiller chair down to the Ripper, up the Ripper to the Stoke and then look kind of show you the best way to get down to the base or to the lodge. And then that kind of just gives people a lay of the land, and

31:28

then it would be so helpful. Yeah. So comfortable. Total, if you didn't know where you were going Otherwise.

31:33

Yeah, So that super helpful. Um, and that's free, actually. So that's at 12. 30 every day. Well, yeah, it's free. It's free. Well, what do

31:45

you I was a revelation.

31:46

Um, Gondola's start spinning for the public at 8 30 And then as the days get longer, the lifts run a little bit longer. Right now, I think it's 8 32 3 30 and then we'll kind of just keep progressing. And by April, I think we're running till

32:9

4 30 Because you could ski till April. Yes. Like how casually you say that like, it's not amazing, because we're how what we got right now, we're If we're taking the top of the gondola, does it tell us toe

32:26

top of stoke tears that, um, just over 2000 meters.

32:33

So for the American knows that 7000 feet, something like that. Something like that. Yeah. Yeah. Uh, big, big joint. It's a really big joint. I want to ask you more about guest services and what kind of things are offered here. So, I mean, we can just check box. It seems like you've got everything you've got. I could get my skis waxed tuned overnight. Probably. Yep. I can go to put my kids in ski school

33:4

lessons. Yeah. Lots of, um, kids program lessons. There's, um, some great March break and Christmas camps that you can put your kids in for the week if you're here visiting, Um, and then they've got a lot of camps geared for different ability levels as well with ski school for kids, which is, um, pretty awesome because a lot of that there's a lot of shredder kids in town. And then there's a lot of people visiting, and so they have a multitude of products. Um, might have to put a link to our website

33:37

for all of them. Sure better. Do you have something for adults like a, uh, learned to ski for adults, Refine your skills

33:45

or Yeah, they kind of go up from, you know, like, ah, half day less into a full day lesson to a private lesson. Um, and then there is a couple interesting programs that they offer as well. So there's own a pro, which is kind of a full day. It's not a private you can have. I think it's groups of up to six, but you could kind of do your own get your friends together, or I think they'll make groups of six. Um, but it's basically it's a whole day, and you're kind of honing in on your skills and just getting,

like, really, like really good instruction and kind of working up to different terrain levels. So it's meant for, like, intermediate to advanced skiers. Um, and you're basically to skiing around with the really high level ski instructor and getting tips on all the different kinds of train. Um, it's a really neat program.

34:39

And then you have parked as well, right? Yes, we have a train park. And what's the train? Berko. The train park. So what's the gnomes

34:50

in the gnome zones? Right beside the train park? The whole thing? Oh, no, that's the Gnome zone is kind of the kids area. Uh, it's still fun for adults, one for everyone. But there's just something smaller tabletops and rails and jumps in that zone. And there's a tunnel, a swell to actually

35:8

kind of fun. Speaking of gnomes, one of my favorite things about rail so is normal

35:18

pattern. Oh, yes, he is, besides the most vertical in North America, he is our claim to fame. I think he's the best story. He has it. He has a great story.

35:30

So if I wake up in the morning and I want to know how much snow you have, what do I do?

35:35

You go to the website, go on the Web, Kim, and then they'll measure how much snows on Norm. So he's just our measuring stick

35:43

is a 20 centimetre gnome.

35:45

27

35:46

centimeters. 27. Are we getting kicked off the

35:52

gondola? I think so.

35:53

Okay, so it's a 27 centimeter known that measures?

35:57

Yeah, he's just standing at our weather plot. Um, and we've got a 24 hour web cam on him. So you can just keep refreshing your phone and see how much snow is on Norm and decide if you're gonna take the next day off work for

36:13

if you know your vacation based on Norm. Yeah. So I read a great article that you sent me in advance about how Norm was someone's thought. I think the whole organic development of a excellent forecasting tool like that is kind of summarizes the vibe of the place

36:34

around here. Yeah, it's fun, and it's quirky, and I mean, it's just a little thing, but he's such a staple and just He's kind of iconic now, like everybody just knows about this gnome. And, uh, he's got a bit of a checkered past theory. Jinling Gnome or the original Norm still exists, but was stolen a couple times, and it used to be kind of a novel. Teoh kind of, um, see if people like people would try and get him off the weather plot. But now we've printed thousands, and he's available in the gift shop. People don't have to steal him anywhere.

37:11

So you don't have to steal normal people don't still know. I love that. When things become that iconic people want to steal it, it's better. And then, uh, running through a couple of, like, not administrative items, but cool things about the resort. You can, uh, you could put a camper in the parking lot, can't

37:29

you? You can? Yeah. We have RV camping. Um, you just have to register at the Sutton Place front desk. Um, not in advance. Just kind of. When you get here, it's free. There's no hook ups, and it's just one night, so you can't do consecutive nights, but you can do one night. Here. Leave.

Come back. Um, yes, So there is actually a lot of people. I think RV road tripping is really kind of taken off in this area anyway, So there's just like them life. Van life. Yes, it's cool. I get it. I see the appeal. Yeah,

38:0

totally. Uh, yeah, I definitely see the appeal. So I think I think that's another cool thing that you guys offer that makes it feel like a uh you know that Cool. I have no good words to describe it. It's cool. It's a cool place to be. And it feels cool being here. Do you think they stopped the gondola

38:19

and that we're stuck now? I think so. I think this podcast might take a turn. Survival? Uh, I'm not wearing my survival gear. What, uh, what other

38:31

cool things are you guys doing here that we need to know about?

38:36

I would say two of the programs people should check out our the that first tracks program that I was talking about, um, kind of priority lift loading. It's really affordable, and it's a great way to just kind of get up on the mountain and ski some fresh, whether it's like fresh power or nice groomers like it's just a It's an awesome program. Um, we were offering another one called Breakfast Club, Um, which is basically first tracks program. Ah. Then you go have breakfast in the Mackenzie outpost, and then you stay with your guide. Um, and then you kind of ski around after breakfast to some other zones, so it just kind of an extension of first tracks,

39:18

and then, uh, I think we didn't talk about it. But you do have a day care option,

39:22

don't you? Yes. Yeah, we're not stuck here. I mean, I love this place, but I do want to go home.

39:31

I'm actually getting kind of chilly. I'm starting Julie, too. Uh, if we go into town, tell me, tell me a couple your favorite places to point people in the right direction.

39:43

Um, well, we've got to, um, kind of cool distilleries in town that are new, which I think a really fun Jones distillery and the monitor she distillery. They're both doing vodka and or no, Jones is doing vodka and gin one, she's doing gin. Uh, I think they're doing whiskey now as well to, um, So those air just like, really funky kind of spots to hang out. Monta. She's kind of steampunk themed. Well,

Coffer apparatus, it's pretty free. Cool in there. Um, And in terms of restaurants, I would say Taco Club beer House. Your house has amazing. I don't know. They've got, like, 27 beers on tap for something. Great menu. Um,

40:34

how would you describe the vibe?

40:40

Funky friendly, Not busy. No lineups. There's no such thing as parking tickets. You can kind of walk everywhere. Um, just really laid back

40:51

another thing. If you're a visitor, walk everywhere. Yeah. Enjoy. Yeah. Look,

40:56

it is a stretch your legs

40:57

out. It's a pace of life that I definitely definitely aspire to living in this.

41:2

Yeah, it just seems super easy and kind of slower paced the city.

41:8

I have so many more questions for you, but I feel like we need to get

41:11

off the gunboat. Well, we Yeah, we definitely need to get off the

41:14

handle. Let's do the get the rapid fire. Okay? And, uh, favorite, you can just go as quick as you can, OK? Favorite running. Why? You said

41:26

what did I say? What did you say? I feel like I'm gonna change it? Um Oh, no. I said three bears. I said three varies because you could love that. I can laugh. I can do to really, really long lapse in a short amount of time.

41:41

And then what do you more likely to do? A day of ski belly or a Bailey skiing Down

41:46

Bailey scheme

41:47

day. Okay. Skiers only resorts unit. Nay. Thank you.

41:53

Is climate change noticeable in your area? Yes or no? Yes. I think it's noticeable everywhere. Acknowledgement check. X games

42:3

or Olympics X games. Which are you more likely to have a shot. Ski or a core shot? Of course. Shot kind of places. Okay. What do you tell us? What the off season looks like? Revelstoke Mountain Resort.

42:21

Oh, okay. We might need more than two minutes, but super exciting, super exciting times at Revelstoke Mountain Resort in the summer. Um, for the past couple of years, we've been known we've got a pipe mountain coaster which has been great to bring families from all over Colombia and Canada, um, into Revelstoke. Um, but we've slowly been kind of expanding summer operations here. Ah, we started with more hiking trails, which was exciting. Excuse me. um,

we were adding some help buying hiking trails, which was a little bit more exciting. We added a trail up. Kill the banker, which was kind of cool, But this year we opened lift access mountain biking, which blew everybody away. It was so positive. It's an amazing trail, and it's basically our entire length of vertical in a bike trail in a blue blood trail. Wow, it's insane.

43:21

How long would that take you to get down?

43:24

It takes me a little longer than most people. Um, I don't know. I would say p an hour, get down some people, probably faster. Um, but it's an enduro style trail so you can put your bike or you put your bike in the gondola, go to the top, uh, seven kilometers of a climb trail on your bike from the top of the gondola, up to the top of the Stoke share, and then a 15 kilometer blue ber me jumpy bike trail all the way to the base.

44:0

Is that changing the game for your off season? How total approaching the resort

44:5

and just like great vibes like great, some revives people are so pumped on it and There's amazing mountain biking in other, like lots of other places around Revelstoke. So this is just adding to people's vacations and to their experience. So they're hitting the McPherson, bike trails, Boulder, Frisbee, Keystone. And then they can come here.

44:26

Wow. You mentioned something experience, and I want to point out views. I mean, this place only has views, But one time I was here in the summer. I had, uh, had breakfast on that on the patio there. Oh, yeah, Leslie. Yeah, it was birds chirping. It feels like you're in the wild life experience and you're looking. It was gorgeous.

44:52

Yeah, just having views of the river and the mountains like this valley's very narrow. So it just kind of brings everything close together. If you feel and you kind of get this, like, amazing, just amazing views and you're so close to the mountains, they just look huge. And then you've got this gorgeous river going right through town

45:13

while we're transitioning gondola's. You mentioned a couple more programs. What do you got?

45:19

Um, we've got a couple cool options for more intermediate and advanced skiers. For people who are looking to maybe try a day of Helly skiing. There's tons of Helly ski companies in town with amazing products, but some people who are just they've never done it, or they just kind of want to make sure that way. Um, we offer a program called, um Helly Cat Prep. So it's not a lesson. It's more of a It's more of a workshop and kind of showing people the kinds of train that they could get into and Halle skiing. So steeper trees and bigger bulls and how to ski those areas. So they're still inbounds. Um, but they're just kind of teaching people how toe kind of conserve your energy, turn efficiently, pick better lines through trees, all that kind of stuff.

46:14

That's amazing. I feel like you just pick up so much from whoever is teaching you.

46:17

Yeah, that's a really cool program. Um, I think it's super helpful for people who just want to make their way into the back country. Um, and kind of see what? It's all that. So it's kind of the next step, baby said baby step,

46:30

yeah, controlled comfortable. The other one you were gonna mention was stepping up my game film had to step up my game.

46:37

Um, you can step up her game with an advanced clinic. Um, and these are programs. You're basically skiing around with the highest level instructors that the resort has to offer. And you can work on skills anywhere from park powder carving, um, bumps all those things. So it's just kind of picking an area that you really want to improve on and getting the best instructor kind of show you. How did you up your

47:7

game? Well, you know, as we as we take this gondola ride to the bottom here, and I'm looking at some of the amazing lodges at the bottom of Hill and this pretty cool magic carpet for beginners. Yeah, it, uh it just makes me want to stay here for sure. I know you guys have a big hot up in that Sutton Place starts here.

47:25

We dio would be loved. We can't poach it uncoachable. It's like right in the hotel. Don't have the i p access to that one.

47:35

Okay. Carly and I have made it inside. Now that we're warming up, um, this lodge is pretty impressive down here. Yeah, it's gorgeous. It's huge. Do you have offhand do you know how many rooms air here?

47:48

Uh, 205 in the second place. Holy Co. And those are all condominium style rooms. Well, hm. And yeah, and two hot dogs.

48:1

So I want to say thank you to Carly. Thank you. To Revelstoke Mountain Resort. Um, your website is

48:9

Revelstoke mtn

48:11

dot com. Okay. And then all the social media

48:15

available there for, um yeah, for social media were at Revelstoke mtn on Facebook and Twitter and at Revelstoke on Instagram.

48:24

Okay, I imagine you've got some pretty amazing content on there that gets people very excited to come visit.

48:30

48:43

bit. I did love your website. I thought it was pretty amazing the way you guys laid everything out. There's even good guides for beginners. Almost like, uh, like a plan of attack.

48:54

Yeah. Yeah, it's nice to do a little bit of research before you come and kind of make a little plan.

49:2

And you can always go visit Norm as well.

49:4

Yeah, check

49:5

him out. Put it. Will put a link for normal. Okay,

49:8

favorite buddy

49:9

If you left skiing because this is the best place in the world, I might be biased. Okay, Number one favorite resort. And, uh, this is your snowy resort guide signing off.
