It's much less commercialized and touristy. Fewer 7-11 and Starbucks stores, more mom & pop stores. In the morning, monks walk through the street for alms and workers line up for jook (rice porridge) breakfast. English is far less common. Thanon Chan is the Bangkok that, even in 2005, was already fading in Sukhumvit.
