Just Get Started Podcast on Smash Notes

Just Get Started Podcast podcast.

December 28, 2019

The phrase Just Get Started can mean a lot of things to a lot of different people but the overarching premise is that you have one life to live so why not make the most of it. Forget the past, whatever happened has happened. Start focusing on the future and where you want to take your life. We all know that being happy is what we all strive for but instead of trying to achieve small moments of happiness why not focus on achieving lifelong fulfillment. Not only will you be a better person but your relationships and career will be positively impacted as well.Hopefully, you'll be inspired to take the "leap of faith" and decide that you want more out of your life than you ever imagined you could have before. But, you have to take the first step. So, what’s holding you back? Just Get Started!...

Key points in this episode

April is Month 4 of my Dozen Months of Discovery and this month I decided to write a book.

Originally, when I planned out my 12-months I had April slated as a month where I was going to learn the Ukelele. Solid choice and it was going to allow me to be that “beginner learner” again like I experienced in March learning Spanish. However, as I spoke with a friend and editor of a book I had been thinking about writing, it was determined that maybe the best thing to do was to put a time window into play and just get it done because it can be very easy to procrastinate especially when writing a book.

What I learned through this process

  1. Go with your gut, sometimes it is always leading you in the right direction

  2. If you are not truly invested in something, you won’t get your best work. Don’t settle for something you deem so important

  3. Be patient - some days you don’t have your best stuff. Even Michael Jordan had off shooting nights.

  4. Hold yourself accountable to finish - There are a lot of ways to weasel out of things and put it off until later but later sometimes never comes. Get back on the horse and ride and finish what you started. Parkinson’s Law works well here “work expands so as to fill the time available for its completion”

To read the full write-up of April please head over to the blog article on my website here -> https://brianondrako.com/all/writing-a-book-in-30-days

Key points in this episode

I am in month 3 of my Dozen Months of Discovery and for this month I decided to learn Spanish! I've always wanted to learn a language (Well, I tried once but failed Italian in High School). I thought this was an incredible opportunity to see what I could learn in 30 days.

I grade myself at a B+ after all is said and done. There were a lot of challenges going on in the world as we all know so I had to be hyper focused on keeping up with my practice and lessons and I'd say I learned a good amount.

Some things I learned like:

  1. I learned the entire alphabet and pronunciations (Did anyone know there are like 5 separate sounds with each letter!)

  2. I learned numbers up through 100

  3. I learned articles like The for both Masculine and Feminine words

  4. I learned many phases for general conversation

I probably learned a lot more that hasn't fully sunk in yet and look forward to continue practicing and evolving my Spanish speaking skills!

Episode 100 features, Sara Ondrako, Canine Behavior Consultant and the Founder & Executive Director of the American Pit Bull Foundation. Sara also happens to be my sister-in-law and having had the chance to get a first hand look of the great things she has done to grow her foundation I was pleased to welcome her to the Podcast to share her journey.

About Sara

I'm a Canine Behavior Consultant and the Founder / Executive Director of the American Pit Bull Foundation.

I've been involved with animals all throughout my life. It started when I was 12 with my first volunteer job at the zoo working around exotics, then progressed to raptors and on to canines.

I started the American Pit Bull Foundation in 2010 with the idea of educating the public and bringing about change to how pit bull type dogs are perceived. In 2015, we launched Operation Sidekick, our shelter-to-service program that trains rescued pit bulls as service dogs for veterans suffering from PTSD.

I recently launched my YouTube channel to help people better communicate with their dogs. That channel centers around behavior, health, training and product reviews to help build the bond between people and their dogs.

This new One Mic Session is a recap of Month 2 of my Dozen Months of Discovery in 2020 where I chose to complete 1-Hour of Stretching every single day in the month of February.

Almost every day, I used a video online from Sean Vigue Fitness (link to video) which is about 40 minutes long and then I added 20 minutes of my own stretching exercises and mobility work to round out the hour.

Here are a couple takeaways I talk about in the episode:

  • Finding Your Balance

  • Ain't Over Til It's Over

  • Finish What You Started

  • Prioritize

  • Breathe & Have Fun

My challenge to everyone...For 7 straight days perform 30-minutes of stretching by using the video above, searching for your own through YouTube or an App you download, or just sit in some poses you know. It doesn't matter. It's that you are commiting to something and exposing your body to things that it needs which is activity and mobility so it can open up a bit more. Do you accept this challenge?

Report back to me or share your results with a friend and let's pass on the good vibes!

Episode 92 of the Just Get Started Podcast features Colin Morgan, the Creator and Host of The Daily Grind Podcast.

Linkedin: https://www.linkedin.com/in/colin-morgan-22310996/

About Colin:

Hi, I'm Colin. I am a former professional golfer, turned entrepreneur. I am passionate about inspiring others by sharing real stories.

After my short athletic career, I found myself at a crossroad. Actually, more like I found myself at a dead end. My whole life was dedicated to one thing, golf! I had a dream to play on the PGA Tour, teeing it up next to Tiger Woods, Sunday at the Masters. So, when that dream was not realized, I had to hit the restart button on my life.

After numerous failed business idea, including, attempts to start an online golf business, car dealership, online Shopify store, and an attempt to become an international real estate agent, I realized, I needed serious help!

So, I turned to my father Paul Morgan. Paul had his own business writing business plans and helping others start successful businesses. So, with my tail between my legs, I went to my father and asked for help. I actually started working with him and it was there I realized, I wasn't the only one struggling to start a business. Others were trying to create their dream life, and others were failing. I was confused, I thought, "there had to be a missing link."

So, I started on my journey of personal development. I read books, bought programs, listened to podcasts, all in an attempt to figure out the missing link. What were I and others doing wrong?

One day I came across, EOFIRE and my life literally changed in an instant. I thought, how genius it was to interview and learn from other successful people! If I could do that, I could ask all the questions I wanted to ask but couldn't. Hence, the beginning of The Daily Grind Business Podcast.

But, that is just the start.

After about 200 interviews, I was hearing some common advice. Find mentors, "you are the average of the 5 people you spend the most time with", ask for help, and create winning habits.

I kept hearing this voice, one step at a time, keep moving forward. I boiled it down to 1 THING, "PROGRESS". The secret to happiness is to make progress every single day, no matter how small the step, as long as we continue to make progress, we can start to change our circumstance.

So, that became my mission, to help others make continual progress through the practice of daily behaviors.

If this is resonating with you, you probably want to stick around, check out the show, and even check out my Inner Circle Group. I am looking forward to helping you as others helped me, create the life I could only dream of.

Episode 88 features the Founder of Wilder Supply Co., Rick Wilder. Had such an unbelievable conversation with Rick about how he got all the way from Alabama to Alaska and how his love for aviation helped him get there. This is such a great story that you are never too old to take a chance on yourself and discover new adventures if you have a work ethic and drive to do better.

Find Rick Online:

Website: www.wildersupply.com

Instagram: www.instagram.com/wildersupplyco

Facebook: www.facebook.com/wildersupplyco

About Rick:

Our journey began with a simple idea and a compelling passion.

In the 1990s while working as an air-traffic controller in Alaska, Rick Wilder discovered a growing aspiration to form a community of people who were driven by a mutual desire. That was, to restore the fading concept of the multi-generational, family-owned and operated small business. Over twenty years later, Wilder Supply, Co. has become the embodiment of that exact ambition. We function as a small community here on the Farm and esteem each member, endeavoring to uphold our community’s standards and values. As individuals, we are equally devoted to our common passions of spiritual purpose, community, Wilder Supply, and simple and organic living. These concepts form the foundation of our company and bind us together as a family and as a business.

As true-life Off-Grinders, we have come to prize our land and the resources naturally available to us. We make it a personal creed to be effective stewards and managers of each acre of land on our farm. In part of maintaining an organic and simple lifestyle, when possible we utilize what is locally available to provide food, heat, water, and power for our community. In our daily lives, we are dedicated to living in harmony with the land and concern ourselves deeply with everything we put in, around, and on our bodies. Our way of life has fueled our company’s mission to harvest products that are both nourishing to the body and are correspondingly enjoyable. We would not dare provide a product that we, ourselves, would not and do not use and love.

On the Farm, we uphold the view that life is a journey and find great joy in experiencing every step of our path as a community-based company. We truly value each day we live and strive to embrace life’s adversities and propensities. This perspective challenges us to be an energetic, creative workforce and find positive aspects in all seasons and situations. We make it a goal to confer this outlook into the quality of our products and services as we build relationships with our friends and customers.

Wilder Supply is not just a business, but the concept of a movement; a movement to change the way family businesses are conducted and to spur others on to form thriving communities around the world. We invite you to participate in the movement by forming a lasting partnership with us. We promise to not only produce exquisite products but to exemplify the type of family business that will make you proud.

Episode 86 takes a little twist from the normal course of action as I bring on a fellow Podcaster, Preslie Hirsch, to speak about her journey and her entrepreneurship endeavors with Coaching, Nutrition, Podcasting, and other things. However, we also do a jam session where we exchange questions and conversation around a variety of topics such as getting started, childhood, self-awareness, CrossFit, and a whole mess of other things.

Hope you all enjoy this break from the norm and our wide-ranging conversation!

About Preslie:

Born and raised in Arizona, I’ve grown-up with a strong affection for the simplicity of nature’s beauty and zero tolerance for anything below 70 degrees. From my dad I get my cheerful countenance, athletic aspirations and inquisitiveness, and from my mom, work ethic, communication skills and drive to constantly improve both myself and the community around me.

As an active adolescent volleyball player turned competitive bodybuilder, I cultivated an interest in nutrition younger than most. After being diagnosed with an eating disorder and being plagued with chronic illness, coupled with learning more about exercise, wellness and physiology, I stumbled upon my true love of CrossFit and Olympic Weightlifting.

These experiences gave me a opportunity to discover not only how food impacts performance and body composition, but overall quality of life. My time spent studying journalism and freelance writing lend itself to helping me easily convey concepts to those with no nutrition background.

My values are rooted in practicing gratitude and integrity, to always be kind and continuously learning, and live both passionately and balanced. I absolutely love helping people realize their health potential and reap its’ benefits. I believe my history and education lend me the opportunity to do just that, and I am very thankful for this platform.

Episode 78 features the Founder of Freeeup.com, Nathan Hirsch. Nathan has a neat story of seeing a gap in the textbook re-selling market and growing an Amazon business and then deciding to use a problem he saw with hiring freelances for that business to create a freelancer marketplace called Freeeup.com

As a special gift to the listeners, Go to Freeeup.com and create an account and mention the Just Get Started Podcast. That will get you a $25 credit to try them out!

About Nathan:

My name is Nathan Hirsch and I am the Founder and CEO of FreeeUp, a marketplace connecting business owners with the top 1% of virtual assistants, freelancers and agencies in eCommerce, digital marketing, web development, and much more.

In 2006, I founded my first online venture out of my college dorm room, selling and buying student textbooks. I rapidly scaled my e-commerce business, bootstrapping from a $20 student - cause initiative to a multi-million dollar e-tailer clocking in revenues in excess of $25 million on Amazon across a 6 year period while serving over 10,000 customers. But I always had one problem. It took me way too long to find talent.

I built FreeeUp to address the frustrations I had. FreeeUp receives hundreds of freelancer applicants each week to join the marketplace. We interview and vet them, take the top 1% (based on skill, attitude and communication), and make them available to our clients quickly whenever they need them. On the backend, we have 24/7 support to make sure people have a good experience. Lastly, we have a no turnover guarantee covering replacement costs if the freelancer ever quits. We work with thousands of business all over the world.

Honesty, integrity, ethics and superlative customer experience have always been the four professional cornerstones of my success.

About Scott Young

I started writing this blog just before my 18th birthday, so in many ways, it has mirrored my own life as an adult. The blog started when I was very interested in behavior change, and you can see many articles about this obsession. Later I left for university and began considering socializing and productivity as topics to explore. Learning became an important topic, and eventually created the foundation for a full-time business I could run, selling courses to learners about the methods I’d uncovered. Finally, as I left school, the idea of continued self-mastery and career development interested me.Beyond writing, entrepreneurship and life philosophy, my interests include programming, travel, cooking and teaching myself anything I can.

Episode 75 is live and it features two of my new friends, Sean Casey and Nick Costelloe, Co-Founders of Universal Dialect. Sometimes you meet people that are just genuinely nice human beings and are always looking out for others in their actions. These guys are exactly that. They're two of the good guys and so thankful for them being on the podcast and their hospitality during my visit up to the NYC/Hoboken area.

Topics we cover:

  • Mission of Universal Dialect

  • How the idea originated

  • How Nick and Sean met at college

  • Their travels

  • Quitting a job to pursue this passion

  • Splitting daily duties

  • Focusing and Managing time

  • ...and much more

What We Do:

We love soccer. In fact, it's our single greatest passion. While we'd love to play all day, every day, the game only lasts 90 minutes.

We make activewear that you'll love to wear while you're taking on the rest of life's daily adventures.

Grab Life in all that you do, and pay it forward by helping kids play The Beautiful Game through our social mission.

Our "Why?"

Through our travels, we realized that the world has a unique problem - we consistently came across communities where people loved playing soccer, but they lacked the only necessary item to play: a soccer ball.

We started Universal Dialect as a way to help get soccer balls to less-fortunate footballers around the world. We eventually created a sustainable model to fund the giving through high performance activewear.

Key points in this episode

This One Mic Session is a Reboot of an idea I tried 2 years ago...but just like life, sometimes excuses clutter your vision and momentum to accomplish things. So, it's back to stay! The Dozen Months of Discovery.

Part of the premise of the Just Get Started Podcast is to get out of your comfort zone and try to accomplish things far greater than you ever imagined. Whether it is changing your eating habits, a better fitness routine, starting a business, etc. At the micro level, everything you do has to be “started” at some point but are we truly pushing ourselves outside our comfort zones as much as possible and learning new skills or knowledge that can become valuable. Or, maybe it doesn’t become something valuable but you can say you tried it because it was interesting at the time. That’s okay, too.

That, my friends, is the whole premise of the Dozen Months of Discovery.

12 months to have 12 new adventures. This could be anything from committing to a workout plan one month to learning how to play the piano another, learning a language, or detoxing from Social Media. Whatever it is you have to invest time into it and you have to practice but more than that is your mindset and focus on accomplishing the challenge must be present everyday. We (and I certainly mean me) say over and over “I wish I could do….” Or “I wish I tried….”. As the old saying goes, “You can wish in one hand and shit in the other and see which gets filled up first”.

Stop wishing. Why not go out and do it? I know your answer. I don’t have time. It may actually take less than you think. Malcolm Gladwell famously wrote that you need about 10,000 hours to master a skill. But I’m not asking you to master a skill, I’m asking you to try and learn a new skill and become good at it. So, how long would that take?

Well, someone already did that research for me and his name is Josh Kaufman. Now, Josh did a phenomenal Ted talk about this topic and, in short, concluded that to learn and be good at a new skill it would take about 20 hours. I highly recommend you watch the entire Ted Talk here – How to Learn Anything in 20 Hours - as it provides a lot more context.

Also, Podcast Guest (Episode 76) Scott Young and his book "Ultralearning" is a fantastic guidebook of some useful techniques and stories to speed up your learning and actually make it sticky.

So, the question I posed to myself a little while back and will pose to you right now is…How far did you advance yourself this past year? How much more could you have done that would have led to increased skill development, more fulfillment or joy in your life, new doors being open…all of it….How far did you push that needle?

Get out of your comfort zone and try to make the next year your best year even. You certainly won’t get there by doing the same thing you are doing now. You must broaden your horizons and I think this is one way to do it.

So here’s the challenge.

Pick 12 new skills/challenges/topics you think would be cool or interesting or maybe something you always wanted to learn. If you can’t think of that many then ask your friends and family or post online and ask your larger community to throw out ideas.

Next, write them down and share with the world those 12 you are going to learn.

Finally, each month you need to pick a goal that will be the accomplishment you are trying to achieve by the end of that month. If you don’t pick a goal you can’t conclude if you truly learned anything. Don’t make it too easy but push yourself.

Now, start with the first one on the first day of the next month and do it. Learn by taking classes locally, watching videos online, syncing up with a friend skilled in that craft, whatever. Invest around 20 hours that month and see what you can accomplish.

I’m starting this endeavor on January 1st, 2020. My first monthly challenge is to not launch one social media app (Facebook, Instagram, Linkedin, Twitter) for the entire month. I'll document each journey prior to starting and the week after I finish each month. Some other ideas I have are Stretching for 1-hour each day for a month and learning a new language over the course of a month. The list is still getting worked out and look forward to any suggestions!

If you are down to join, let me know and we can hold each other accountable. If not, we'll catch you for the next one and I'd love to hear what you are trying to do to challenge yourself and push beyond your comfort zone.

The Vision:

  • HOPE’s vision is to create an inclusive, mixed income community where all individuals, including those with developmental disabilities, can live meaningful and purposeful lives. The vision for this community was born from the belief that where we live matters, that all people should have the choice to live in a community of their choosing, with access to affordable housing.

The Solution:

  • HOPE’s mission, interest and commitment is to serve individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities by addressing the urgent and unmet need for affordable, accessible housing.

  • Creating an inclusive, supportive housing solution for individuals with disabilities must begin at the local level and requires creative strategies that combine public and private financing.

  • HOPE will achieve its mission by intentionally engaging neighbors of all abilities, ages, and incomes to create a supportive community. We are bringing together a diverse coalition of stakeholders, advocates and partners to adapt an innovative, award-winning housing model that's already being successfully employed in supportive housing developments around the country with different vulnerable populations.

About Rick:

A pioneer of technology with the vision of making the bullet obsolete, Rick founded the original company, TASER International, in 1993. As the TASER device became ubiquitous in law enforcement, Rick pushed the company beyond weapons technology and towards a broader purpose of matching technology to public safety needs in order to make the world a safer place. Under his leadership, the company has grown from a garage in Tucson to a NASDAQ-listed global market leader in conducted energy weapon, body-worn cameras and software. In April 2017, TASER International officially changed its name to Axon Enterprise to better represent the entire network of devices, people and applications. Today, more than 18,000 law enforcement agencies in more than 100 countries are a part of the Axon network.

Rick graduated from Harvard with a B.S. in Neuroscience (Cum Laude) and later earned a Master in International Finance from the University of Leuven in Belgium and an MBA from the University of Chicago.

Rick’s mission to obsolete the bullet has been chronicled in The New Yorker as well as Forbes and GQRick’s 2018 op-ed on suggesting a grand challenge to help reduce gun violence in schools was published by CNBC. That same year, Rick was named one of Arizona’s Most Admired Leaders by Phoenix Business Journal and Axon was named one of 2018’s Most Admired Companies by Arizona Business Magazine. Rick rocked the tech industry when he announced a first-of-its-kind employee compensation plan allowing employees to align their pay directly with value creation for shareholders. The eXponential Stock Performance Plan earned media coverage in Bloomberg, GeekWireWorld at Work and more.

Rick is a frequent guest on CNBC’s Mad Money and has also appeared on CBS’ This MorningThe Street and more.

This is a must-read for those who share his bold vision to enhance safety in our communities!” – Kathleen O’Toole, Former Police Chief

The passion behind Shining S.C.A.R.S. stems from Krystian’s own personal battle and experiences resulting from visible scars beginning at the age of 4. Her surgeries left behind several large scars and she endured first-hand the trials and self-esteem issues associated with taunts and bullying because of those scars. Her nonprofit works to gather funding to provide her children’s book Shining Scars, to children’s hospitals and recovery centers treating patients relating to burns, cleft palate, spina bifida and cancer recovery and others. By creating a positive and character building organization it is Krystian’s goal to build an informative community aiding in the healing process. This One Mic session covers some of my journey with nutrition and how I started Intermittent Fasting and the things I've learned along the way.

I'm not a Doctor or Nutritionist but I've worked a lot off logic in my life and this seems like the proper approach for where I wanted to take my fitness and nutrition into the future.

If interested, just type in "Intermittent Fasting" into google and read some articles or watch some videos. There are a variety out there so I won't guide in too many directions but just explore and make your own decisions and I'd encourage to always consult your doctor.

Episode 61 features Co-Founder of The Superfan Company, Kim Kaupe. I have been following Kim's content online for a couple years and was pleased to get a chance to meet her at the Next Gen Summit in June of 2019 when she was there as a speaker. This was an interesting interview that follows her journey from childhood through present day.

Some topics we discussed were:

  • Her goal of working for a magazine

  • Serendipitously meeting her Co-Founder

  • Keeping their jobs while starting the business

  • Keeping relationships

  • Getting into Walmart

  • Her Shark Tank experience

  • …and much more

If you all haven't had the chance to follow Kim online I'd suggest to do that below as she has a great perspective on business and entrepreneurship. If you need a starting point, check out her "Coffee with Kim" series on here website here -> https://www.kimkaupe.com/coffeewithkim

About Kim

While Kim has not yet mothered a human baby, she delivered ZinePak—now The Superfan Company—into the world in January 2011 after holding positions at Conde Nast and Fathom Communications. She has been thrilled, killed, and amazed by her first few years of entrepreneurship and is so proud of what The Superfan Company has established in past seven years. From successes in retail with Walmart and Cracker Barrel to working with world class tours for legends like Paul McCartney and Bob Dylan to stints on TV shows like ABC's Shark Tank, the highs have been SO high… and the lows well, gray hair is cool now right?

From Katy Perry and ACE Universe Comic-Con to Logic and the New York Mets, Kim has had more than 100 amazing clients throughout the years and no, she cannot pick a favorite client...she loves them all (somewhat equally!).

She enjoys sharing the highs and lows of entrepreneurship on her social media, along with her adventures, travel, and friends (much to their dismay, often yelling, "Do not put that on your Instagram! Well unless I look good and then you can.")

Was really cool to have Dale Dupree of The Sales Rebellion stop by for episode 60 of the Podcast. I've been following Dale for a couple years and since we had so many mutual connections and I always enjoy reading his thoughts on sales, I had to have him on to share his journey and knowledge. This was a really interesting interview where we go all over the place talking about his new company, what he learned from his Dad, when he was touring in a band, and much more. Definitely think you all will enjoy some of Dale's thoughts and his perspective on not only sales but life.

Dale also talks about two former Podcast guests on this episode that i'll link up below:

About Dale:

To understand my Sales Rebellion, first you need to hear and acknowledge the role my Father played in my life. His legacy is one of integrity, perseverance, and service to others. I spent my life in the shadow of one of the greatest men to ever walk this earth and I am eternally grateful for his amazing example. I realized my calling in the Technology world through his business and also just how much fun I had being in a sales role. Copiers and Printers are pretty boring and usually not top of mind, they are also the most important piece of hardware in the office when they break, am I right? I enjoyed the challenge behind making them a fun piece of your business puzzle.

in 2017 I moved on from the company I had represented most of my career, after my Dad’s passing (see my shared articles for the saddest story I have ever told). I stayed in the copier industry for 2 more years before creating my Sales Rebellion. I have gone into sales training and develop for both individual contributors and entire sales organizations.

In 2019, The Sales Rebellion was born. My conquest of changing the game has expanded beyond my role as an individual contributor in the sales world, as The Copier Warrior. Now I am teaching the masses how to choose legendary for their sales career. No longer will the mediocre rule throughout our profession. It is time for a Sales Rebellion to rise.

I believe in Radically Educating your prospects on a first touch. I believe in Responses, good or bad, but never indifferent. I believe your Territory is your Community, we enable Sales Wanderers. I believe your Pipeline is Alive. I believe people are more than just a signature for your deal. I believe in fellowship over negotiations.

About Rich:

MOTIVATIONAL SPEAKER & PERSONAL BRANDING GURU

Catalyst

This is my core value…in ‘One Word’.

Maverick

My Wharton MBA opened doors to the corporate world; being a risk-taker let me ditch it. I have the vision of a creative and the analytics of an executive—a rare combination of right-brain and left-brain that delivers results.

Survivor

My cancer—then my wife’s—didn’t break me, it redirected me. Paying-it-forward, not an award or title, now defines my success. My Survivor buff symbolizes that triumph.

Inspirational

I energize and create a sense of direction and purpose for every life I touch. Inspiration is my middle name (fine, it’s Scott).

Marketer

I spent 25 years snacking on Godiva chocolates, Chips Ahoy! cookies and Planters peanuts. Oh, and I crafted their identities, too. Now I’m hungry to help young adults uncover the power of their personal brands.

Connector

I bring people together to share experiences, connect thoughts, debate ideas and develop solutions. My energy (and bright t-shirts) light up a room.

On this episode of the One Mic series I start the conversation around Sales especially as it relates to people who have never had to "sell" before. This idea was originated from a great conversation I had up at the Next Gen Summit in NYC this past weekend. A lot of Start-up Founders have many talents and skills but one of the challenges a lot have is actually understand sales and the sales process of pitching VC's, selling their first clients, etc.

I'm going to turn this into a multi-part series but wanted to give a taste of how I look at Sales and what has helped me become successful in the world of Sales.

Had an extremely deep and inspiring talk on episode 53 with Derrius Quarles and we called this "Part 1" as we just scratched the surface of his journey. We went deep into his upbringing and early years around foster care and how we got out of that situation to get over a Million Dollars in scholarship money to go to college. Ultimately, that drive helped propel him to start Million Dollar Scholar and kick-start his entrepreneur career.

About Derrius

Born and bred on the South Side of Chicago, I marched through 13 years of foster care after losing my father to violence and being separated from my mother to become a first-generation Ivy League graduate.

Experiencing poverty first-hand provided all the motivation I needed to hustle. Selling snacks at Kenwood Academy High School freshman year would spark my passion for building businesses. Since then I have leveraged technology to grow multiple companies that are currently improving the lives of various marginalized groups . My first book, Million Dollar Scholar: Winning The Scholarship Race has helped thousands of students across the globe increase their knowledge of how to make higher education more affordable through scholarships and grants and my business ventures have collectively impacted the lives of over 15,000 marginalized youth in America.

As the Co-Founder and CEO of the financial services company BREAUX Capital, I assist the 70% of Black millennials who would not be able to afford a $1,000 financial emergency enhance their financial health through a powerful combination of software that automates savings behavior and education through a peer community. As the Founder and CEO of Million Dollar Scholar, an education technology social enterprise, I help low-income high school students acquire scholarships to pursue higher education. As the Founder and Brand Architect at DQ and Partners, a web design agency, I partner with emerging business and influencer brands that are improving communities in the fields of education, technology, health, art, and equity.

A driving force behind my inspiration is a humbling honor I received from Harry Belafonte at the 2012 Common Ground Gala hosted by musician and actor, Common. Mr. Belafonte said to the audience that “Derrius is the dream Dr. King and I, as well as so many others, fought for...”. Since that evening, I have decided to carry the metaphoric torch that he handed to me.

In 2015, I was honored by Barack Obama at the White House for his activism in expanding educational access and named to Black Enterprise's 100 Modern Men in 2017. Beyond these awards, my work has been highlighted by Time Magazine, The New York Times, Associated Press, CNN, HuffPost, MTV, and BET amongst others. Most recently, I was an Entrepreneur in Residence at TED where I delivered a dope TED Talk discussing the role large banks have played in economically marginalizing Black Americans and the innovation BREAUX Capital represents in the marketplace for Black millennials.

Episode 52 features newly minted Author, Rita Serra! Had an incredible conversation with Rita that takes us all over the world and explores her journey traveling and writing her book of poetry.

I am always fascinated by people who can just go out on their own and travel to exotic and interesting places without thinking twice about it and Rita is certainly one of those people. Her stories about traveling to Europe and southeast Asia are incredible and excited for everyone to listen through this episode and get to know Rita a little more.

About Rita:

Heyyo! I’m Rita, a funky, free-spirited, often forget… Full of life, writer. This blog focuses on my escapades as a solo, female, budget traveler who lives an alternative lifestyle constantly in transit.

When I first set out into the world, I had a simple eight month trip split between Europe and Asia in mind. After about 48 hours of being in Asia I knew normalcy was forever adversary and I was destined to be a renegade revolving on the backside of reality. I decided perma-vagabond was the life for me.

If you DREAM of traveling the world but don’t think you have what it takes, think again! You don’t have to be an epic hero to travel the globe. I’m much closer to being Clark Griswold than Odysseus. Don’t believe me? Once I managed to walk 40 minutes down the street before realizing my backpack was unzipped, and when I finally did I no longer owned a raincoat. Later that same day, I left my Firkenstocks ($5 “Birkenstocks”) behind in a different city. This brought my lost ‘n wandering soul count to five pairs of sandals in five months. Yeah…

Now that I’ve put my (probably bare) foot in my mouth, I hope I conveyed: if I can do this, anybody can.

Despite never ceasing to put the blonde in that blonde vagabond, I’ve been surviving and thriving alone, and on the road for over two years. I am chock-full of travel tips and have self-deprecating stories galore. That’s right, the laughs on me and I won’t even charge you my two cents… Oh I should probably mention, I like to pepper in puns to spice things up. So call me Hootie, because if you hold my hand, I’ll take you to the promise land.

On Episode 48 I sit down with a great guy and someone I've gotten to know well over the past year, Joshua Peach. Peach is a Corporate Evangelist at Dude Solutions and shares the great message of the company across the country with many events and speaking engagements. Additionally, Peach started a movement called Be Au Sm that is swiffering the nation and bringing a positive message that is much needed in our world today.

About Peach:

Twenty-seven years ago on my 16th birthday, my mother dropped me off at the local Shaw’s supermarket to apply for a job. I landed the job of bagger/carriage wrangler and quickly learned how important customer service is to an individual’s shopping experience. The smiles and services provided by the employees were just as, if not more, important than the items on the shelf or competitive pricing the store offered. At 17 years old I was named the Employee of the Month for three months in a row. Although there have been the expected bumps in the road that two plus decades of working brings, for the most part I have carried the idea that a positive attitude can change an entire day.

For the last fifteen years I have been a part of a dream team at Dude Solutions, Inc. I spent the first twelve years in sales, starting out as a client representative and eventually becoming a National Strategic Sales Leader. Three years ago my role transitioned and I became the first Corporate Evangelist at Dude Solutions. I have the pleasure of speaking to tens of thousands of people and the ability to attempt to make a positive impact on as many of those people as possible. Along with my speaking engagements for Dude Solutions, I am in the process of releasing a weekly podcast as well as a book titled “Be Au Sm: The Essential Elements to Kicking Ass”.

I have always had an interest in sport performance and a strong desire to learn about performance nutrition and health to apply to my own life. As a nutrition and lifestyle coach, I use my knowledge to help others reach their own health and fitness goals.

I have always been interested in human behaviour. The fact that there are many facets involved in a person’s relationship with food, makes nutrition coaching a gratifying and desirable field.

I am a lifelong athlete, having competed in a variety of high level sports including alpine ski racing, golf and soccer. I am now dedicated to the sport of CrossFit. I have competed at The Crossfit Games and many times at Regionals.

My own experience in sport and life has helped me realize how important it is to fuel your body properly. I have experienced significant benefits from eating basic, healthy food in the right amount to support my lifestyle. I was able to greatly improve my sport performance, health, daily wellbeing and relationship with food. It’s true, you are what you eat.

It is incredibly rewarding to help others experience the positive effects of eating right and eating the right amount, while also maintaining balance and flexibility in doing so.

The combination of these two passions has led me to where I am as an athlete and coach. I have competed at The CrossFit Games and many times at Regionals. I was ranked top 10 as a USAW Olympic weightlifter (53 & 58kg) with multiple appearances in the American Open and Nationals. I have a particular interest in the performance impact of sports nutrition as well as the mental component of coaching and training.

I have seen first hand the benefits that a practical and appropriate diet can have on performance. It is my goal to share my knowledge and experience in a way that helps people fuel their bodies and rebuild their relationship with food.

He didn’t want to be that Chiro who tells you, “You need to this exercise and be on “X” program.” Then, pat you on the back and say see you next week.

He works with people and athletes, who don’t want to deal with pain and injury anymore. And at the same time, don’t want to stop their training or don’t want to keep modifying their workouts every time there’s a workout that has overhead movements.

With hands-on experience running a gym that does functional movements and treating people with injuries or previous injuries, which surface from having to move functionally, Sean started getting busier. And because of his unique approach he also started getting requests from clients that used to see him but moved to another city asking for workout programs.

Had a great time on episode 39 speaking with the Founder of RepVue, Ryan Walsh, about his journey from his college days at UNC and early career to how he helped grow ChannelAdvisor to become a couple hundred million dollar company and publicly traded. His insights into sales and business are spot on and it was refreshing to hear his views on these topics and more.

About Ryan Walsh:

RepVue’s founder and CEO, Ryan Walsh, has spent nearly two decades selling, leading sales teams, and mentoring sales professionals. Prior to founding RepVue, Ryan ran a successful consulting practice helping companies optimize the mechanics of repeatable revenue businesses, with a keen focus on architecting scalable sales engines for early to mid-stage cloud-based software companies.

Previously, Ryan spent over 17 years as an operator and executive, most recently as chief revenue officer for SaaS e-commerce software company ChannelAdvisor. Ryan was the primary architect of the revenue engine and chief sales leader from 2010 to 2017, during which time the company's annual revenues grew from $40M to $112M. This growth directly resulted in a successful IPO in 2013

Episode 38 features our first "Digital Nomad" on the Podcast in Entrepreneur Jinny Oh. Jinny is the Founder of WANDR and travels all over the world to explore the endless possibilities that are out there as well as continue her mission to grow her company WANDR. We get into some great discussions about how she has scaled her company, leadership, remote employees, and of course about traveling!

About Jinny Oh

Hi, I'm Jinny—an entrepreneur who's lived, studied and traveled around the world. My passion for exploring led me to a digital nomad lifestyle, from which I built a multi-million dollar business in product design and strategy. From features like Forbes to speaking engagements, and as a startup advisor—I owe it all to the experiences I've had and the people I've met while working remote and traveling the world.

In 2016, I started WANDR to empower startup founders with better user experiences. Since then, we've launched over 250 brands and worked with several Fortune 500 companies to re-shape their product strategy. Below are some of the clients I’ve worked with.

I currently serve as an equity partner for Partner.ly, Trendi and KaptionThis, which I've helped build, launch and/ or advised.

In October 2017, I found myself energized with a growing online audience. When my LinkedIn Post on "sacrifice as a founder" reached over 20 million views, it led to countless opportunities. I've since traveled nationally and globally for speaking engagements and podcast interviews on topics such as Design Innovation, Designing User Experiences, My Journey as an Entrepreneur, Life of an LinkedIn Influencer, and more!

I packed up for my first solo trip at sixteen years old. I've since traveled to over 40 countries, lived in 5 countries, and fluently speak 3 different languages. I travel to discover new cultures, and challenge my creativity along the way. Some of my favorite places include: Colombia, Greece, China, Iceland, Spain, and Indonesia.

Had a phenomenal conversation with Case Kenny on Episode 29 of the Just Get Started Podcast.

We get into an interesting conversation around his life and journey into growing his media company and we discuss the background of his Prsuit.com company and how using the thought around “perspective” is ideal for growing yourself and becoming fulfilled in life. His consistency in putting out great content has helped him grow his audience to hundreds of thousands of readers and become a regular top 50 iTunes Podcast in just a few short months of starting it.

One of the things I enjoy about Case is how raw he is when speaking. He believes what he says and isn't afraid to share his opinions of the world and offer advice where he feels it could help others. Putting yourself out there and being vulnerable can be difficult but once you build your confidence and understand that your voice can help motivate and inspire others it's cool to see what can happen. Enjoyed the chance to get to know Case a bit and know you all will enjoy this episode.

Episode 28 features Bryan Wish, Growth Consultant for global-impact visionaries and the marketing strategist behind Allen Gannett’s book “The Creative Curve”. I met Bryan serendipitously last year when setting up Allen Gannett on the Just Get Started Podcast. Unfortunately, as I tell the story, the audio didn’t record properly and the interview with Allen never launched. However, I stayed in contact with Bryan and was appreciative for him to share his story on this latest episode. We went into some depth around his childhood and how early challenges helped ultimately pave the way for carving out some great opportunities with some sports franchises and now some of his business endeavors. A lot of energy and passion out of Bryan and really enjoyed his insight on business, networking, and creating your own opportunities.

About Bryan:

For years, I have used my abilities to both discover and foster growth opportunities behind professional sports franchises, global investment funds, and CEO visionaries turning their dreams into tangible results. Noticing untapped potential in ticket sales in the collegiate market for the Atlanta Hawks and the Atlanta Braves, I created segmented marketing and sales programs that have done more than $300k in sales to date. My own vision helped curate 800+ impactful stories which have been read by more than 500,000+ readers on The Wish Dish. From 2016-2017, I helped establish a foundational community outreach system for The Kairos Society – a network of young entrepreneurs featured in Inc., Forbes, and Wired Magazine – building a fellowship of more than 500 up-and-coming entrepreneurs in 40 countries and counting. Currently based in Washington D.C., I spend my waking hours meeting, fostering, and influencing entrepreneurs to act on their most empowering visions.

Through years of reflection, I’ve developed a high-functioning growth mindset to continuously progress, despite obstacles of every kind. Time after time, I’ve transitioned one “no” into the next “how can I get there?” I can see a story, visualize its potential, and then get up and go make it happen.

I met Christina through a recommendation of a prior guest, Tisha Abrea (Ep. 16), and was so fortunate to get a chance to hear her story and learn through some of the lessons she had to go through in her career. I love that she refers to periods of her life as “seasons” and although she is in a busy season I was appreciative she was able to take time out of her day and share her story.

We get into some of her struggles on the golf course during LPGA Tour Qualifying School and how she broke out of the mold that everyone else thought she she be in and ultimately flourished by following a different path with her golf hosting, mindset coaching, and motivational speaking.

About Christina:

Unlike most professional golfers, Christina was a late-comer to the sport. Born in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada Christina did not play any golf before the age of 18. However, this wasn’t due to a lack of exposure to the game. Christina’s father, Tony Lecuyer, has long been one of Alberta’s biggest names in golf. Her two younger brothers, Ryan and Steven, were also two of Canada’s best amateurs winning the 2003 Canadian Junior Boys’ Championship and 2010 Alberta Amateur Championship, respectively. Christina certainly picked up the game quickly. Christina won the first golf tournament she ever entered, the 2002 Edmonton Ladies Amateur Championship, and attracted the attention of numerous college recruiters finally landing on the University of Central Arkansas in 2003. Christina had an outstanding collegiate career, both on the golf course and in the classroom. She won five collegiate tournaments, had 24 Top Ten finishes, and was a 2-time All-American honorable mention. Christina was an even better performer in the classroom, graduating Magna Cum Laude in 2007 in Business Administration. After wrapping up her collegiate career in 2007, Christina focused her attention on the professional circuit. She played various mini-tours from 2007-2010 qualifying for LPGA final stage three consecutive years. She was featured on the Golf Channel’s Big Break Series twice, coming out on the winning end on Big Break Reunion: Dominican Republic. She has also been sought after for many on-camera opportunities and most recently co-hosted Swing Clinic on Fox Sports Regional Networks. Now Christina’s focus is her love of entertaining clients at corporate and charity golf events, mentoring others, and publicly speaking. She’s sought out by world-renowned corporations and has raised millions of dollars for charity. Christina’s expertise, generosity, personality, and knowledge have put her on the map as one of the only female golfers in the world working in this capacity full-time.

In Episode 22 I get a chance to sit down with Dr. Zach Long, a Board Certified Sports Specialist and the creator of the industry leading fitness website, TheBarbellPhysio.com.

I reached out to Zach after coming across some of his content online and was blown away at the amount of great insight and knowledge he puts out there. He has a really cool story about how he got involved in fitness and physical therapy and his path to starting and building upon his website, The Barbell Physio.

His Dad was his high school football coach and probably the biggest influence on his life and had a great quote he used to say, “Don’t ask yourself what the world needs, ask yourself what makes you come alive”. Very fitting for this episode and the entire Just Get Started Podcast series!

We get into a whole lot of different topics where we crush a few myths and learn a little bit about “Dry Needling”.

I know you all with love this conversation and if you get a chance to listen I hope you enjoy!

James Carbary is the founder of Sweet Fish Media, a podcast agency for B2B brands. He’s a contributor for the Huffington Post & Business Insider, and he also co-hosts a top-ranked podcast according to Forbes: B2B Growth. When James isn’t interviewing the smartest minds in B2B marketing, he’s drinking Cherry Coke Zero, eating Swedish Fish, and hanging out with the most incredible woman on the planet (who he somehow talked into marrying him).

We had an incredible conversation and I was thankful James could make some room in his busy schedule to discuss his story of how he started his business and some of the neat things they are doing. I really feel he is breaking down some walls and pioneering a brand new avenue for content creation. That path is being called “Content-based Networking” and I think this will ultimately be a wave of the future.

I mentioned the article that got Gary Vaynerchuk’s ear several years ago…here is a link to it if you wanted to read: https://www.linkedin.com/pulse/whats-roi-gary-vaynerchuk-brian-ondrako/

Episode 20 features a true entrepreneur at heart and a guy with so much experience under his belt I wish I got to spend several hours with him. Chip was a delight to speak with and we covered a variety of topics about his upbringing having to adjust from an introvert to extrovert during adolescence, taking a gamble on his first hotel property, and making a shift in his life at the age of 52 to take on a role at fast-growing Airbnb

I think you’ll all love the entire conversation with Chip and for more about him and to find him online please see links below:

About Chip:

Rebel hospitality entrepreneur and New York Times bestselling author, Chip Conley is a leader at the forefront of the sharing economy. At age 26 he founded Joie de Vivre Hospitality (JdV), transforming one inner-city motel into the second largest boutique hotel brand in America. After running his company as CEO for 24 years, he sold it and soon the young founders of Airbnb asked him to help transform their promising start-up into the world’s leading hospitality brand. Chip served as Airbnb’s Head of Global Hospitality and Strategy for four years and today acts as the company’s Strategic Advisor for Hospitality and Leadership. His five books include PEAK and EMOTIONAL EQUATIONS and are inspired by the theories of transformation and meaning by famed psychologists Abraham Maslow and Viktor Frankl.

In his new book, WISDOM@WORK: The Making of a Modern Elder (September 2018), Chip shares his experiences – as both mentor and unexpected intern – at Airbnb. He is the founder of Fest300 (part of Everfest), San Francisco’s annual “Celebrity Pool Toss” that has raised millions for families in the neighborhood where he opened his first hotel, and the Hotel Hero Awards that shine a light on outstanding line level employees. Chip is a recipient of hospitality’s highest honor, the Pioneer Award, and holds a BA and MBA from Stanford University, and an honorary doctorate in psychology from Saybrook University. He serves on the boards of the Burning Man Project and the Esalen Institute, where the Conley Library bears his name.

In Episode 18, We speak with Stu Heinecke about his career in marketing, how he broke into being a cartoonist, and ways people can think about bringing value and setting themselves apart from the pack. Stu has done some neat things throughout his career and figuring out a way to combine his passion for marketing along with his creative chops of being a Cartoonist led him to forging ahead with his own business and seeing success early on.

About Stu Heinecke

If ever there was someone born to write a book like How To Get A Meeting with Anyone, Stu Heinecke is that person. A Wall Street Journal cartoonist, Hall of Fame-nominated marketer and author, Heinecke discovered the magic of “Contact Marketing” early in his career, when he launched a Contact Campaign to just two dozen Vice Presidents and Directors of Circulation at the big Manhattan-based magazine publishers. That tiny $100 investment resulted in a 100% response rate, launched his enterprise and brought in millions of dollars worth of business.

The ability to connect with the people most important to realizing one’s goals ultimately became an obsession. While Heinecke regularly employs his own cartoon-based contact methods, he became intensely interested in how others have solved this unique challenge. As a result, he has uncovered a highly unique form of marketing that until now has had no name, yet it produces response rates as high as 100% and ROI figures in the tens, even hundreds of thousands of percent. In How To Get A Meeting with Anyone, he not only gives Contact Marketing its name, but provides us with a definitive guide to what it is, how it works and has cataloged twenty categories of Contact Campaign types.

Heinecke is the host of Contact Marketing Radio, Founder and President of “Contact,” a Contact Marketing agency, and co-Founder of Cartoonists.org, a coalition of famed cartoonists dedicated to raising funds for charity, while raising the profile of the cartooning art form. He lives on an island in the beautiful Pacific Northwest with his wife, Charlotte, and their dog, Bo.

In Episode 16 I get a chance to speak with a talented musician and America’s Got Talent Golden Buzzer recipient, Michael Ketterer. I saw Michael’s performance on AGT and was extremely inspired by his story as well as his great voice. Michael and I speak about his childhood and how his father got him into music, his family as a great support system, getting a chance to be interviewed by Mario Lopez and of course we get some of his insight surrounding his life changing performance on America’s Got Talent. Here is the link to that performance if you haven’t seen it – Michael Ketterer on America’s Got Talent

Episode 15 features Michael Bosstick, CEO of Dear Media, a Podcast network primarily focused around female hosts and talent, and he is the Co-Host of the Skinny Confidential Him and Her Podcast. I was fortunate to interview his wife, Lauryn Evarts (@theskinnyconfidential) back in Episode 11 and really enjoyed getting a chance to speak with Michael in this episode and learning about his unique story.

Michael learned early on from his father that you have to work for what you want and after some early childhood jobs he figured out that he wanted to pave his own path and create opportunities for himself. Early after college Michael ventured out to fill a gap he found in corporate aircrafts with a business called JetBeds and has now grown that over the last 10 years to be the most successful company in the space.

Michael is now extremely involved in digital media and finding new and creative ways to build an online brand. We converse about many topics including business, the power of voice as a platform of the future, and many other intriguing insights.

I enjoyed one of Michael’s quotes where he says, “I spend 90% of my time focusing on solutions and 10% of the time looking at the problem”, and it’s no surprise he’s been successful with his optimistic mindset on business and how to scale effectively.

Episode 14 features Carolynn Lemke, the Founder of Noble Friends Shop. Was excited to get the chance to speak with Carolynn not only because of the great work she is doing to grow her business but because we go way back to the same small town as her and I graduated high school together. I’m so proud to see the success of many of my classmates and after learning more of Carolynn’s story I am cheering her on even more as her journey continues.

Carolynn has a tremendous personality and a gift for illustration and I think anyone seeking to find their own creativity, looking to start their own business, or just needing some inspiration to get started will pull a lot from this interview.

Key points in this episode

Episode 13 features the @49ersfangirl Tracy Sandler and we have a wide-ranging conversation on sports, relishing new opportunities, being nimble, and much more.

I was intrigued to learn more about Tracy and the Fangirl Sports Network when I came across her profile many months back. It’s great to see someone that saw a gap in the market, especially relating to content focused for the female fan, and then took the opportunity to do something about it instead of just sitting on the idea and doing nothing with it. The trajectory of the Fangirl Sports Network is pointing upwards and it will be exciting to see all of the interesting things they do as they grow into this season and beyond.

A couple key nuggets about her that she mentions in the interview:

Book She Reads Every Year: The Four Agreeements – https://www.amazon.com/Four-Agreements-Practical-Personal-Freedom/dp/1878424319

Key points in this episode

Episode 12 picks up right where we left off and I interview Chris David Garcia, the creator of the Major Level Creative CONNECT sports conference as well as the Creative Director for the Houston Astros.

I met Chris about 3 years ago and we have been friends ever since and I’ve been fortunate enough to have been able to join three MLC Connect Conferences in the past and look forward to the continued success of the conference as they hit the 5-year anniversary mark this June. Chris is an extremely talented graphic designer but more than that is his personality and character which are phenomenal in the way he interacts and treats others. He is a very selfless individual that is always looking for ways to help others become the best version of themselves and improve their own craft.

Furthermore, I feel Chris has been a disruptor in the creative world and his insightful ideas and passion for always bringing your best has led to the creation of probably the best conference I have ever been to. It’s intimate. It’s personal. It’s educational. It’s fun. Top notch speakers surrounded by some of the most talented people in the sports design world. It’s incredible!

Those reasons are exactly why I told Chris prior to launching the podcast that he has to be a guest as I knew he’d be able to bring the fire as well as some great stories. He didn’t disappoint in this episode at all!

In this discussion, we pinpointed on a few key topics around her upbringing, how her two-day stint in a sorority and a bartending encounter motivated her to build an online community, and she gives some very poetic advice to those that are looking to build their own brand.

Episode 10 features Digital Marketing specialist, Speaker, Author, and Podcaster Hank Hoffmeier. Hank is Manager of Strategic Services at iContact (http://www.icontact.com)

. With a passion for all things digital and social, combined with more than 18 years of experience in sales and marketing, Hank enjoys partnering with organizations large and small to improve their marketing strategy. Hank is and author, speaker and host of a marketing podcast, Hank’s Business and Marketing Tips, available on iTunes.

This was a fun episode to record as it was my first in-person interview and it definitely allowed for some more interaction. As all the statistics say, 55% of communication is body language so it helped having Hank in the same room and kept the energy at an all time high.

We talk about daily planning and time management, how business owners should think about branding, marketing automation insight, and many others tangents!

A couple of links I wanted to share that were mentioned in the show:

Episode 9 was a blast talking with Speaker and Author David Rendall. I met David for the first time in the spring of 2017 at the High Five Conference in Raleigh, NC where he was giving a keynote and he left an imprint on my life because I agreed so much with what he was speaking about. It was almost like he was speaking directly to me and some of his experiences actually helped guide me onto some of the things I am involved in today.

In this episode we discussed a variety of topics associated with valuing not only your strengths but also your weaknesses and pursuing adulthood with things that make you happy and are what you want to do vs what others think you should be doing. David explains his upbringing, dealing with tragedy, how an experience in college altered his life, practical advice on becoming a better speaker and much more.

I hope you all take a listen through and I think you will appreciate the vast knowledge as well as the great perspective David has on life.

David can be found on his website at http://www.drendall.com or on twitter @daverendall or find one of his books on Amazon and go take a read.

This episode is on fire with 5x world record holder and fitness expert Jordan Syatt. Jordan is incredibly knowledgeable about all things fitness and nutrition and brings so much great insight into this episode.

When you hear the passion in his voice it’ll bring a smile to your face!

We go deep into how he got started into personal training, his love for coaching, his insights into new years resolutions, and why he so desperately wants to be a wizard!

Jordan’s website is http://syattfitness.com and he can be found on Instagram a ton @syattfitness

Also make a couple mentions in this Podcast first about a great quote from Sly Stallone. If you don’t know anything about the struggles to get the first Rocky made go hear and read up on it because it’s an incredible story –

Additionally, I’ve always lived by the quote “Stay Hungry, Stay Foolish” and I heard that first spoken from the late great Steve Jobs in his Stanford Commencement speech. One of the best ever – Check it out here – Steve Jobs Stanford Commencement Speech – He got that quote from Stewart Brand’s last issue of the Whole Earth Catalog. Well, Stewart recently did a podcast interview with Tim Ferriss that I highly recommend. Crazy amount of life lessons and knowledge can be gained.
