Why Does Biohub Chase a 10x Approach?

Sal Candido says Biohub chases a 10x approach because the mission is to cure all disease, and a 10x goal shows solutions a 10% goal leaves hidden.

One thing he learned a long time ago in his career, back at Google, is that it is sometimes easier to approach a problem by asking what it will take to make a 10x improvement rather than a 10% improvement. The path is not necessarily easier. A 10x goal lets you take a broader view, see solutions you have not been approaching, and go back to first principles to ask how the work will really get done. Both the 10% approach and the 10x approach are valuable, and both should be done.

He is happy that Biohub has a lofty mission statement to cure all disease, because that goal means going after the 10x approach. When a drug made by an AI will arrive is hard to know. Rapid progress is coming very, very quickly because the tools are being used. The aim is to see outcomes affected, and basic research and basic understanding are still needed.
