What Percent of ChatGPT Users Ask Health Questions?
Sarah Friar says about a third of ChatGPT's 1.2 billion weekly users ask a health or wellness question every week.
Reid Hoffman asked what OpenAI is doing to earn trust when people cannot tell what is going on. Friar says trust is earned, and healthcare is where OpenAI has a strong footing because people already trust AI and healthcare together. In health deserts such as West Texas, she says the share using ChatGPT for health or wellness can reach 80 to 90 percent, not a third. Boston Children's Hospital gave OpenAI genetic data, diagnostic data, and scientific literature, along with more than 300 diseases that had no resolution yet. She says the work has reached 40 of them, which means answers for families who had none before.
A proof of concept with HCA, which she calls the largest hospital chain in the U.S., lowered the time a patient spends in a hospital by 25%. Patients leave sooner for community care and are less likely to catch the next illness while they stay. Friar says trust comes from showing up with outcomes, not from telling the world that AI is great so people should trust it.
