What Are Cinnamon Brooms?
Alie Ward calls a cinnamon broom a fibrous plant material soaked in cinnamon oil for a period of time. She does not know whether cinnamon brooms are traditional. Smell is part of broom making: broom corn, linen, and wood each carry a distinct, pleasant smell that adds to using a broom, especially in a smell-free world of plastic.
Trader Joe's tends to stock cinnamon brooms in season, and the brooms get snapped up fast. She tried to buy one at a local Sprouts and was told she needed to come weeks ago. She has never purchased one. People ask her about cinnamon brooms a lot. She is not much of a Trader Joe's shopper, in protest since the store got rid of coconut encrusted cashews. The brooms smell good to her. She feels indifferent and leaves the verdict open because she cannot be an authority on them.
A search into the history stayed shallow, closer to a raccoon nook than a deep rabbit hole. Cinnamon and brooms are good luck, they protect the home, and they smell good.
