This week Very Bad Words, a podcast in which Matt Fidler finds the meaning behind the words we grew up hearing were bad, taboo, naughty, no no, and the list goes on. But how did they become that? What are the roots of the words? What was the initial meaning or use for it?

Matt Fidler has a way of describing and interviewing people who love, use and some who even have education on Very Bad words so he said fuck it I’m going to make a podcast.

Welcome to Bronzeville a corner of Chicago ran by African Americans for the betterment of the African Americans back in the 1940’s.

Bronzeville was a place where African Americans could prosper.  They had this thing called “Running The Numbers” which in today’s world we’d call the Lottery. This is a HIGHLY scripted and theatrical show which reminds me of the radio drama’s my grandparents loved. Bronzeville is the story of Jimmy Tillman which is on the run and ends up in Bronzeville. Taking a place as a foot Soldier for the Copelands.

This week we’re traveling to a hidden city in the darkest, deepest reaches of the Pacific Ocean to a Utopian society. Brought to us by Christof Laputka this is The Leviathan Chronicles. An audio drama that although has never been completed is in my top five I've ever had the pleasure of listening to. The Leviathan Chronicles tells the stories of Immortal beings trapped in a civil war and how a young genetic scientist named Macallan Orsel is trapped between who she was led to believe she was and who she truly is. She must navigate the water per say to find who and what she really is and decide how she is going to better society as we know it and the society of immortals that she comes to learn about.

Between the Sklar brother and Van Kirk you’ll be laughing the entire episode as you learn about some of the dumbest news headlines of recent weeks.

We all have heard of James Bond the famous 007. Some of us growing up pretended to be him but for some it’s a lifestyle. So this week we’re talking I SPY. I SPY is a podcast told by a SPY each episode about one mission they had a hand in. Things like this are becoming more common as more documents are being declassified it’s allowing the real James Bonds to come out of the shadows and tell parts of their career to the masses and this is what makes this podcast one of my new favorites. Stories from CIA Agents in Asia, A KGB Sleep Agent and an Assassin.

This week we’re talking about This is War. This is War is an extremely raw cut into you guessed it War. War has been apart of my country since I can remember. Helicopters being shot down, nightly updates on deaths overseas and so many more devastating and life changing moments for so many where I live and across the globe. Growing up I always figured I’d maybe someday join the military though I did not, I still am curious about it. What’s it really like over there? What’s it like to know today is my last day alive and then somehow you end up coming home 6 months later? What drove this person to join the military over another, and really what drove someone to stay after their first contract was up? But the big question I’ve recently been asking myself is how do they cope with it all when it’s done and said. These questions get answered in This is War. It’s RAW, it’s real and honestly it’s fucking emotional just listening.

Set 17 years after the events of the original We’re Alive a world some of this installment characters have lived their entire life in the aftermath of the story we’ve already heard. These survivors never knew the world we do and the ones that do remember that have grown and changed since the original outbreak. Goldrush is best described by Kc Wayland himself as a “Recollection” story. Told by some of my favorite survivors from the original story Goldrush tells us of a time back during the original story the soldiers went rogue in hopes of gold and glory and found so much more. The thing I found odd at first about Goldrush was that instead of really expanding the world we expand characters. Instead of focusing on wars with mallers or other survivors in Goldrush we focus on the emotional aspect of these characters as they rely the history of Anthony Robbins to his son Alex all through the memory of now General Puck.

This week we’re talking about a show that takes True Crime and tilts it in a new direction. We’ve all heard the stories of Charles Manson, Ted Bundy, Al Capone and the list goes on. What if I told you there was a True Crime podcast that told you stories of lesser known criminals that didn’t hit the headlines big like murders that we usually focus on in True Crime Podcasts. Hosted by Phoebe Judge this is Criminal. Criminal tells us stories of Criminals who have interesting crimes and even more interesting stories. Stories like Paulette Cooper who stowed away for a week on a Caribbean Cruise and enjoyed it to the fullest. Or a woman who ran a prison dog program and helped an inmate escape via a dog crate?

This week's podcast is FriGay the 13th Horror Podcast or FriGay as I’m going to refer to it from here on out. FriGay episodes are based around a Horrific themes in life and in movies. Each episode starts with the real life horrors like Racism, Sexism, Current Politics and so on but they approach these Horrors with a LGBT perspective. With this episodes can be and are usually raw and personal, but Matty and Andrew do an excellent job making fun of the causes for these horrors and laugh often through the episode with what they call “Silly gay nonsense”.

This week we’re here to talk about Black Star Chronicles. Black Star Chronicles is created by Randy Greer who is a large sci-fi enthusiast which is perfect since Black Star Chronicles is an Audio Drama set in just that, a Sci-Fi universe with a rich background. The Story of Black Star Chronicles revolves around the Horizon corporation who has taken Juno’s brother Naheem but for what reasons we don’t know. The thing that truly captivates me about Black Star Chronicles is that once you start listening to this audio drama and get in to the futuristic city you start  to get a feel for the underbelly of it and all its citizens.

Each week Skye and a guest go deep into the background of a Mystery or Conspiracy or dive deep into a historical event. The thing I love about conspiracy and mystery shows is that every host can and usually has a new take or perspective on the same event. So with Skye and her revolving chair of guests I can enjoy a topic I may of already heard but I get a new perspective on said topic.

Haunted Places dives into the history of places like haunted houses, islands, and of course cemeteries. Haunted Places is hosted by Greg who’s entire job is to tell us the frightening and real stories behind the haunted and spooky locations each week. The best part about Haunted Places is that not only do we get a chance to hear and learn about the history it has equally creepy and eerie audio production to make you feel as though you are wandering the halls, fields, or stumbling through the cemetery running from the woman in the white dress. So if you’re in to creepy and eerie historical places, events or items look no further than this incredible dive into Haunted Places.

Twisted Britain is different from other True Crime shows I listen to as each episode Bob and Nadine tell a story one long and one short. One reason I enjoy Twisted Britain is that Bob and Nadine (not always anymore you cheater) research crimes exclusively from the UK to bring to us wherever you live.

This week we travel to the nations of Arne. A world devastated by an army of demon worshipping cultists nearly a milenia ago. With the cultists falling into obscurity this weeks audio drama follows four different perspectives of potential heroes and villains. This week we’re talking about Aethuran Dark Sage or Dark Saga Aethuran as it’s technically wrote. But I think Phill did that to annoy me because I always say Aethuran Dark Saga. This Audio Drama come to us from the creative mind of Phill Usher a good friend of mine from our Discord Community. I actually found Autheran as I’m gonna call it when I first started promoting Podcast Junkie nearly a year ago before the initial release. I quickly binged in true Podcast Junkie fashion and loved every moment.

I really enjoyed the way that each perspective takes a life on of it’s own and occasionally they entwine to make a fantastic interaction. So with that all said I feel that Phill did an incredible job bringing the continent and Nations of Arne to life through his words, sound scape and story telling. If you’re looking for a darker more edgy Audio Drama look no further than Dark Saga Aethuran.

This week we’re talking about a wholesome, comical and always family friendly and one of my two year old sons favorite podcasts. This week the best part of waking up is The Good Morning Guys Podcast and a Cup of coffee. That’s right ladies and gentlemen we’re talking GMG of The Good Morning Guys Podcast.

Each week these friends meet up to discuss life, spirituality and of course games. The four hosts Lucas, Patrick, Marc, and Ronnie all come together to chat about their weeks and to discuss the topic of the episode which happens to change each week. Topics can be crazy and funny all the way to serious and real.

Each episode revolves around a new topic but there may be a few recurring segments. On a side note I will say that another thing I love about these guys is the community they are building on Discord. The Good Morning Guys  have their own stand alone Discord community that is as welcoming and wholesome as the weekly show. But you can also always find them in the Podcast Junkie Community whenever you feel like it.

The year was 1971 and in Norway's Isdal Valley a woman was found dead. She had died in terrible circumstances and no family attended her funeral and to this day we have more questions than answers. This is the plot of Death in Ice Valley brought to us by the BBC and NRK and hosted by Marit Higraff and Neil McCarthy. Through this series Marit and Neil try to uncover just who this woman was and why she was there 40 some years after her tragic death.

The story of this woman is far from over and we may never get a guaranteed answer on who she was or what she was doing and for whom she was doing it. The thing I love about this story is the topic is well plotted out and they go to any length to track down people that interacted with this woman all those years ago and sift through paperwork and interviews to try and piece together her story and give her a final voice.

Through the episodes it looks hopeful that we may be getting close to an answer and theories of who she was in life are pondered and even worked through. A Spy? A Fugitive? The potential list goes on and it’s a very captivating listen. I highly suggest if you’re in to documentaries as I am OR if you’re a True Crime Junkie that you go and subscribe and binge Death In Ice Valley.

This week we’re going to travel far into the future where we not humans or even primates, we’ve now evolved beyond what we can recognize as a species. Now that we’re over the time traveling lets start the earth historical podcast called Omnibus. Hosted by John Roderick and Ken Jennings Omnibus is a time capsule for us as future beings and can be used as a reference to odd but true stories of the creatures we call humans.

Back in their day Ken Jennings was a celebrity only rivaled to Michael Jackson. He was most famously recognized by his outstanding 74 win streak on our favorite color show Jeopardy! We all know John unsurprisingly by his time fronting for the earth based indie rock band The Long Winters. Did you know they hosted a podcast?

Omnibus is a comical dive into the odd stories with two good friends. Topics like Billy the pygmy hippo, The angels of mon, The Olympic Marathon of 1904 and so much more. The two co hosts not only are hysterical with banter between the two but are also nerdy and insightful on the topics they have decided need to be recorded for historical purposes.

A Scottish Podcast is a audio drama that follows a Scottish fellow by the name of Lee a washed up former Radio DJ who has decided to make his own podcast called the Terror Files. Aided by his friend Dougie a jaded musician the two are on the mission to find Medieval Demon Kings and Lovecraftian Gods of the Sea based in Edinburgh Scotland. This audio drama is extremely well polished and no audio details are left out. From the sound of crashing waves, to background ambient noise each episode draws you in and creates a movie in your head as you listen.

If you’re in to dark topics surrounding true crime, conspiracy, history and the paranormal all with a comedic twist then let these three best friends take a stab at becoming your next favorite binge. I find it very entertaining when a podcast feels fluid and natural among the co hosts. Each episode I get the feeling that these hosts are just remembering to turn on a mic and bless us with their normal conversations that they would be having regardless if there was a podcast.

The topics discussed in this are just what you’d expect. Items ranging from eerie museums to Salem witch trials to odd town festivals. You may be asking yourself why you should go listen to these three woman over another conspiracy podcast or true crime or occult. Well the answer is simple. They do it all and do it hilariously.

This week we’re here to talk about a show that started in 2015 as a well produced story telling podcast and now can be watched on Amazon Prime. That's right this week we're here to talk about Lore.

Lore is a award winning podcast based on the scariest real life stories about the dark side of history. Hosted, created and produced by Aaron Mahnke Lore tells stories of creatures, places and people that should only live in our scariest and most twisted nightmares. The thing I love about Lore is that Aaron does an incredible job telling the story along with a well mixed audio backdrop I can spend hours listening to these stories from days gone by to even some more modern Lore stories.

Love and Luck is the definition of a slice of life Audio Drama and Australia's first LGBT audio drama told entirely in voicemails. I will be honest when I first started this series I was hesitant and even put off by the back and forth voicemails. It is truly unlike ANY other podcast I have ever heard before. Though I found this semi annoying at first I will admit the episodes are quick and I soon found I was 20 episodes in and noticed I was enjoying my time with the story. So with that said yes I can see where a voicemail audio drama may be semi off putting I am asking you to take a chance and see this review through and give love a chance.

Love and Luck starts off as the story of Jason and Kane who fall deeply in love despite their struggles emotionally  and learn to grow together and discover the magic per say. Through the first season you start to get a feeling for their personal lives and their struggles, but we quickly find out they are Magical in more ways than one.

This weeks podcast hosts are Heath and Daphne we’re talking Going West. Going West is a true crime podcast. The nice thing about Going West is that each episode is stand alone. Meaning you’ll never have to worry about waiting till the next week to get the conclusion of the podcast that is if there is one.

Keith and Daphney do a really amazing job researching each case adding a personal touches. In Going West it really feels like you’re just sitting down and talking about a murder case with two close friends. The audio production in Going West is clear and crisp which is what you want with an informative and narrative driven podcast.

This week We’re here to talk about a podcast that showed me what it meant to be a community. This week I’m here to tell you about Married to the Games or MTTG as we call it. I should state right off the top if you’re looking for a guaranteed family friendly podcast this is the one for you.

Married to the games started life back on September 21st 2012 with Three hosts. Gabe, Tim and Tim. These three Nashville natives all came from different walks of life but were united with Video Games. As the friendships built so did their families. Married To The Games was based on the principals of Kids, Wives and 9 to 5’s… except for Gabe when it’s tour season.

The three hosts opened up about their personal lives and of course Video Games. Timothy Hall stepped away from Married To The Games to focus on his growing family. So with his leave a spot needing to be filled and Chris McCrackin and Ed Placencia long time listeners and well regarded community members stepped up and without skipping a beat it was a perfect fit.

This week we're here to talk about Directive a short and completed audio drama. Directive was wrote by David Magadan. Directive immerses you in the life of a man who has no friends, family or really anything to live for. Stuck under the wallows of debt from unemployment Frank gets asked to join a outer space escort mission with a twist. Frank is placed in charge of maintaining the packages on board. You may be asking yourself what packages. As the story unfolds you learn more about the packages and cargo and what led Frank to undertake this task.

NOTE: *When I mentioned it was made for the Google and PRX Podcast Program I was mistaken. I meant to say he is contemplating a second season or new audio drama in the future with either the Goolge PRX Program or a Kickstarter.*

Today we’re going to talk about the podcast that got me started in the crazy world of Podcasting.

Giant Bomb was the first show I ever listened to and it is still going all these years later. I joined after it was already a big name in the Podcast world but let me go over a little history of this famous Podcast. Giant Bomb is a video game podcast and website that is personality driven in their coverage of news and reviews. The show came to light from two former GameSpot employees Jeff Gerstmann and Ryan Davis. Jeff was terminated from his position at GameSpot and took this as a challenge to create a new outlet to showcase his personality that I still love to this day.

Sadly when I joined the audience was right after the passing of Ryan Davis and it struck home for me listening to them talk about him, memories and his young family. Which I had just had a major loss in my personal life. I should say Jeff and Ryan started the podcast under a brand called Whiskey Media but in 2012 was acquired by CBS and has flourished since.

This week we're talking about Business Wars which is brought to us by Wondery. A podcast network that brings high quality shows with intense quality. Business Wars is a mini series style podcast that focuses on titans of their industry giving up the real stories of companies and the leaders behind them.  The podcast started with a highly captivating series on Netflix Vs. Blockbuster covering the ins, outs and everything in between including HBO and how these competitors once almost worked together but ended battling till ones death. The show continues with rivalries of Addidas Vs. Nike, The First Computer War, Marvel VS DC, Sony VS Nintendo and McDonalds VS Burger King.

Through this podcast you'll get to learn about those Titans. The downfalls tribulations and the miraculous come backs. With this I must say Business wars is an incredible Podcast to binge from start to finish or find the war you're interested in and listen to it's story. The facts are researched and the stories are told accurately and unbiased. That is one of the reasons this show has captivated me so much. So what war are you interested in? Let them know.

Today we’re here to talk to you about an amazing and one of my personal favorites The Bright Sessions. The show revolves around a group of adults and several young adults that all share a special attribute they all have a supernatural abilities in some form. Yes I know it sounds so cliche from today's world but somehow Lauren Shippen the creator has gone beyond what could of been a TV knockoff and made a vast world that feels so real. In this day and age we are so skeptical of the people running our government and wonder who’s truly behind it all and what they’re hiding.

Our Government has a division in charge of these A Typical people and a normal therapist that is charged with helping them fit in to our society with the best of her ability. From scorned lovers to blossoming high school romance and even a time traveling romance this show covers it all and just like in life you fall into a click and mingle within it. From learning about each patient of Dr. Bright's we learn about aspects of their personal life through the series.

The main story line seems to of concluded but Lauren has made nods to a new series or spin off and still releases occasional patient clips.  If you’re looking for a top tier story look no further and maybe if we’re lucky the tease of exploring other aspects of The Bright Sessions in a new spin off series will come true and if it does you’ll hear about it here first on podcast Junkie.

A podcast that is currently two seasons deep Jonathan dives into the moments in life when everything changed. In heavyweight we are introduced to a new person each episode and their story. Stories ranging from brothers who are in their eighties and haven’t spoken in decades to a story of a CD and musician slighted. Jonathan hears stories of friends, family and then tries to mend the point where things went wrong.

I feel as though through this series we can start to see a Jonathan inside each of us, if not only just a glimmer. We all face challenges in  relationships at one point and many of us have lost someone in these cases. So with Heavyweight I feel as though it's like Jonathan is speaking to us all.

This week we’re diving into King Falls AM. King Falls AM is a Radio Drama unlike any other I’ve heard, taking the Radio aspect to the extreme. You’re going to want to start from Episode 1 to get the full effect. Right off the bat you’ll notice that this story takes place inside the King Falls very own Radio Station, 660 AM on the dial. Through this drama you’ll get to meet some very interesting characters along the way but lets start with the hosts of this show Sammy and Ben.

Sammy is new to town actually not even new it's his first night in King Falls. ShotGun Sammy as he used to be call was a big name from a big city who finds himself taking the late night early morning gig at some no name station. Ben however is a life long King Falls native who wants to chase Journalistic endeavors but, he’s been delegated to audio production and producing behind the mixer.

Like all good late night shows Sammy and Ben turn to the phone lines to talk to other King Falls natives about the local happenings. From somebody messed with my property to what’s going on with the rainbow lights? As the story progresses you’ll start to learn King Falls is home to many myths and legends that may just turn out to be true or a cover up from the towns shot callers.
