How Does Bryce Roberts of Indie.vc Explain Venture Capital?

Bryce Roberts tells Kirill Zubovsky that venture capital is money people give you without making you pay it back on the spot. The expectation, he says, is that you will return much more later. You are selling a piece of a company before you know what that piece is worth, hoping the investor helps the whole company become more valuable. The danger is getting hooked. After the first check, the venture business pushes founders to raise again and sell more of the company so they can grow faster. Roberts built Indie.vc as a calmer alternative, meant to help founders fund growth from revenue and profit so they can decide with a clear head.
