Did Anthropic's Filing Warn of Ending Humanity?
Dan Primack says Anthropic's filing goes past ordinary product harm to ending humanity, and that no earlier financial filing has included a sentence like it. He does not think Oppenheimer went public.
The risk factor Alex Kantrowitz reads from the document says concerns have been raised inside the organization and by other researchers, regulators, policymakers, and industry participants. Without appropriate safeguards, oversight, and security measures, advanced systems could pose catastrophic or existential risks to humanity, particularly if misused, replicated, weaponized, or allowed to operate with a high degree of autonomy. Primack's plainer version is that ending humanity as people know it could hurt financial performance.
Commentary over two months held that Anthropic had to resolve the issue before listing. Primack says resolution is not possible, the company is not really trying, and the warning stays in. Buying the offering or staying out will not change whether Anthropic could destroy the world, which would make the rest of a portfolio meaningless.
