Why Does Daniel Dewar Doubt Blockchain Will Replace Music Streaming?
at 10:34
Answer
Daniel Dewar, founder of Paperchain, says blockchain ideas for music are interesting, but throughput does not scale to the industry and the software is too hard to use. Few listeners will manage a MetaMask wallet and private keys, or buy a token just to play a song. A blockchain-native Spotify still has to recruit artists and fans. He says a five or ten million dollar raise cannot compete with Spotify spending about $25 million a month on marketing. Paperchain started as a blockchain project for checking rights among publishers, performing-rights societies, and streaming services, then followed the money. It still prices streaming data and lends against that value with decentralized finance, and it hides the machinery from users.
