When Will Companies Run AI Agents as Digital Coworkers?
Amjad Masad says that by the middle of next year, companies will be comfortably running agents that do real work, and it will feel like having digital coworkers. Right now most agents run on employees' laptops. Very few companies outside tech use agents for real workflows.
New AI assistants push that along, because people who see what the tools can do will ask their companies to provide them. Consumer vibe coding is no longer a viable market. Replit made some money there, and he expected that market to fade, which is why Replit set out to charge businesses rather than consumers. There is now a plan he calls free or unlimited: subscribe for $20 and keep coding. Wider understanding of the too

How Long Did Replit Take to Find Product-market Fit?
Amjad Masad agrees with Carlos Gonzalez de Villaumbrosia that Replit's first eight of ten years were the search for product-market fit. The faster schedule startups got used to in the SaaS era, find it and then scale, was the exception. Older businesses, and peers from that era such as Notion and Figma, took about five to eight years to build something meaningful.
He had patience because Replit was riding four trends he expected to matter more over time: cloud, AI, mobile, and collaboration. There was self-doubt. The company had just done a layoff, spending a lot of money and not making any. About 30 people were building Replit Agent, which he calls the first coding agent, with no examples

How Does Replit Get Frontier Performance at 40% of the Cost?
Amjad Masad says Replit gets frontier performance at 40% of the cost, pretty consistently, by giving customers the cheapest token that is still the best for the task. The benchmarks are published on the Replit website.
Replit trained that choice on three or four years of usage. The models pick the level a task needs, including model size and reasoning effort. In most cases, once a customer buys Replit, Replit wants them to trust it to select the model. Big enterprises and governments can still set restrictions. Zero-day retention contracts with the providers back that choice. With the freedom to choose, Replit stays at frontier performance and also significantly cheaper.

What Is a Self-driving Company?
Amjad Masad says a self-driving company is one where engineering, support, and a lot of operations run on their own, while humans set the destination. The human job is knowing what the customer wants, choosing the best thing to build, and making the major decisions. The company then trusts that autonomy to do the rest.
Replit spends a lot of time on collaboration so several people can work with AI on the same project. None of the big labs focus on that, and the gap is a mistake. Individual contributors will have less work on their plate, so building together matters more. New ideas come from brainstorming and from building on each other's ideas.
