Back to Replit CEO on The Self-Driving Company: How AI Agents Learn to Operate Themselves While Humans Set the Destination | Amjad Masad | E317, with Amjad Masad & Carlos Gonzalez de Villaumbrosia.

What Is a Self-driving Company?

Amjad Masad says a self-driving company is one where engineering, support, and a lot of operations run on their own, while humans set the destination. The human job is knowing what the customer wants, choosing the best thing to build, and making the major decisions. The company then trusts that autonomy to do the rest.

Replit spends a lot of time on collaboration so several people can work with AI on the same project. None of the big labs focus on that, and the gap is a mistake. Individual contributors will have less work on their plate, so building together matters more. New ideas come from brainstorming and from building on each other's ideas. The shape to copy is an open source community: a little chaotic, no centralized leader, and everyone builds on each other's work and learns from one another.
