What Is the Horowitz and Andreessen Academy?

Gagan Biyani says the Horowitz and Andreessen Academy is a college-age school built by redesigning education for the AI era, with Alpha School as the model rather than a schedule copied from K-12. He wants a stronger network, students more likely to become positive-sum people, and practice at hard things, and he says earlier grades, high school, and college each need a different design. Most university leaders, in his account, spend about 90 percent of their time on the adults around the institution, so the student is not the job.

Joe Liemandt says university has to be reinvented the way he has tried to reinvent K-12, and he does not think everyone should skip college. He wants a next step for Alpha students. More than 70 summer interns from MIT, Stanford, and the University of Texas told him they were terrified to graduate, because the first jobs that used to follow those degrees may not be there. They spent the summer researching and building, including 80-hour weeks, and said they wished their universities worked like that.
