Did Duffy Try to Cancel Animal Collective?
at 17:12
Answer
Mike says Duffy started the effort to cancel Animal Collective. Duffy, in Mike's telling, said the band was done and was not coming back, and Mack hopped on that train soon after. Duffy answers that he did not try to cancel them. What he wanted, vicariously through Pitchfork, was to say Animal Collective was not a big name anymore, and he says that guess was wrong.
Mike is glad to see Animal Collective on the mid-year list. He thinks the album got like an 8.3, and he calls even that a comeback. It is hard, he says, to come back from the stage where Pitchfork thinks you are done and still get any Best New Music. A year-end spot in the thirties or forties would still impress him.
