Why Does Duffy Pick Big Thief for Album of the Year?

at 30:13

From the episode: 49: Beyoncé

Answer

Duffy's pick for the number one or two spot is Big Thief. He calls it a boring choice next to the pop records, and he says the band has not landed in a number one position yet. The album is the highest rated of the year so far, and unless Beyoncé pulls out a Beyoncé he is not sure a higher rated album is coming. He names Dragon New Warm Mountain I Believe in You, calls the title long, and says Pitchfork could hand the band album of the year because the record is great and they already named it.

Mike agrees it is one of his two front-runners. He says Big Thief has never had a number one, that UFOF was a number two, and that the new album got a high nine. He would pick it for number one right now. He also warns that a high nine can feel a little high after more listens, because a score that starts up there has more room to fall than to rise.
