Cody Rhodes on Street Fighter BTS Stories, Crazy 50 Cent Gift, & the Biggest WWE Ego

People

Speaker 1

Guys, we're here with movie superstar Cody Rhodes, American nightmare to American hero, Guile, the new Street Fighter, Cody Rhodes. Oh, thank you. Okay, holy. What's up, Cody? What's

Speaker 2

up? How are you? I'm good, dude. I'm stoked you're here. Congratulations to him. You got a movie, it was announced. Oh, thank you.

Speaker 1

Thank you very much. That's huge. Congratulations to you too, man. Okay.

All right. Yeah, because you got Street Fighter and then...

Speaker 2

Street Fighter, we're both in, and we had a great time. We

Speaker 1

did have a great time, and like, it had a lot of buzz about you. But Street Fighter's been... Yeah. You started it, right? Like, I wasn't even going to go there. I was genuinely happy for

Speaker 2

your, it was announced formally out there that you're part of this movie. So

Speaker 1

you're saying if there's not something formally announced, I should, I should maintain kayfabe or whatever.

Speaker 2

How long are we talking about? No, something's

Speaker 3

going on, but yeah.

Speaker 1

No, no, but obviously we're only talking about formal announcements. You know what

Speaker 2

kayfabe means?

Speaker 1

Yeah.

Speaker 2

I think you have a vague concept, and we, did we talk about this the last time?

Speaker 1

I think kayfabe is when a guy puts his penis in another guy's foreskin. No,

Speaker 3

that's, that is not, that's docking.

Speaker 2

Docking,

Speaker 1

that's docking.

Speaker 2

Docking. Docking. Oh, yeah.

Speaker 1

It's crazy, you

Speaker 2

know. No, I, I joke with people all the time. I was, if you can tell me the definition of kayfabe, I'll give you a thousand dollars, and I've never ever had to pay up on that bet. Isn't

Speaker 1

kayfabe just maintain the business?

Speaker 2

You're not wrong, but you're not right. The specific singular definition of it is, you know, is you're not going to get it. But you didn't use it incorrectly either, though. So

Speaker 1

I'm using it as like, you know, popular vernacular, but I'm not actually the definition of it.

Speaker 2

Yeah, it's root definition. And then people get that confused with its origins, which is origins is carnivals, call and collect, Kay Fabian, call and collect, letting the family know you've made it to the next town. That's its origins, but that's not its definition.

Speaker 1

Okay, what's its definition?

Speaker 2

I'm not, that would ruin my whole bad. It's going to spend a thousand dollars. Yeah, yeah. I got to, until someone walks up to the street.

Speaker 1

Google it. Yeah, you're basically, I know. Who gets to dictate what the definition is? You're

Speaker 2

basically a wrestler yourself. You've done the show,

Speaker 1

you

Speaker 2

know. You're trying to figure out how to make celebrities work in sports entertainment for wrestling. Well, it could

Speaker 1

just be, listen, I'm like, I'm such a casual to wrestling. I just want to point this out. Yeah,

Speaker 2

you're not. You

Speaker 1

already dropped

Speaker 2

Kay Fabian. Okay, okay, okay. You worked with multiple wrestlers on a recent film project. Yes.

Speaker 1

Shout out Roman. Also. Shocked to see you guys not have a single conversation together the entire time you've ever been together.

Speaker 3

Yeah, that's not kayfabe.

Speaker 1

Well, this is where I'm like, so I was wondering about this, and like I asked wrestling.

No, no, cuz

Speaker 2

like, I'm

Speaker 1

like, at a certain point in time, I'm like, okay, they're gonna be like, there's gonna be this behind the scenes, oh, they're all hanging out, right?

Speaker 2

Buddies.

Speaker 1

Weird, my dad used to do the, produce the news for NBC back in the day.

Speaker 2

That's really cool. Yeah, and

Speaker 1

he did a thing where, with wrestling, where back in the day, there was everybody kind of was like, this is, you know, this is, what is it, not scripted? What is the term that you wanna use for it?

Speaker 2

Are you, I don't know, I mean, real?

Speaker 1

But then they'll go, well, it is real. I got a hip replacement, my back hurts. I'm

Speaker 2

never that one, though. I'm never that one. Yeah, I've seen several times when you can tell a wrestler instantly, especially when it's a split screen interview, when somebody drops the F word in there, and then a wrestler will be like, whoa, I broke my neck, and they get all. I typically take a softer approach to the feeling you have

Speaker 1

when

Speaker 2

you come to an event is a real feeling. It's a

Speaker 1

real feeling. And

Speaker 2

that's usually why I don't ever use the F word in that regards. But also, that's where wrestling interviews sometimes can go to die, because you can see a guy hanging on to it. Like, you can't let it go. You gotta let it go. Like, you remember when Tyson got interviewed and all of a sudden called that guy a rat? Do you remember that? Mike Tyson? It's a great Mike Tyson interview.

It's not

Speaker 1

that I'm going to eat your kids.

Speaker 2

No, no, this is later, after everything. He's got a one-man show he's promoting. Oh, in

Speaker 1

Canada.

Speaker 2

Yes, and that guy,

Speaker 1

he

Speaker 2

goes in on that guy. But you can see, if you were just looking at each other, you'd think, like, I think everything's okay. And Mike was not okay with the words that were in the

Speaker 1

questions. Because he brought up the, you know, the past. He brought up the history. Oh, is this it? That guy is

Speaker 2

brave. Yeah, he thought he was safe. But Mike is a loaded gun. There it is. There it is. Here we go.

Speaker 1

I don't know shit that you don't know how to say that. You know what I mean? And I don't have no comment to that, you know,

Speaker 3

because he's negative and you're being negative.

Speaker 2

And I met the mayor. And nothing they

Speaker 1

can do

Speaker 3

about it.

Speaker 1

That's

Speaker 4

not

Speaker 3

funny,

Speaker 4

but... Oh, wow, he's trying to hold

Speaker 3

it

Speaker 4

together.

Speaker 2

you know, a lot of

Speaker 3

people...

Speaker 1

Yeah,

Speaker 2

there's, there's YouTube videos that I can just hear my wife watching in the other room because I can hear her laughing, and this is a regular. But that's, again. But that

Speaker 1

happened in the, in, what was it, Schultz? Was the wrestler's last name Schultz, actually? Oh,

Speaker 2

where he opened hand slap the guy backstage. That was pretty fun, actually. It's amazing. That one's pretty, but, yeah, it's where a lot of wrestling interviews can go to die. I always just, you know, try and keep the composure. If there's an opening to put my little soundbite in there, great, but, oh, there it is.

Speaker 1

So, yeah. But my dad, he was surprised to see everybody in the same locker room. That's what he said. And then, now, what I would say to that is, like, even with the UFC fights, they're kind of in a locker room separated by, like, a sheet.

Speaker 2

Sure.

Speaker 1

But what I was shocked with you and Roman is you guys, Yeah, I don't know. I'll

Speaker 2

tell you this crazy, I was such a slow learner in terms of, I didn't want to know about the secrets of it. I like being out there. I didn't want to be backstage, even though I was backstage with my dad all the time. I wanted to watch it. But one time, I think it was in Macon, Georgia, Haku, who's on WWE TV now. Haku is notoriously the toughest wrestler of all time.

Gouged a cop's eye out, just this amazing. If you look up anything Haku, and any wrestler will tell you, Haku is the toughest. He's also the sweetest human being you've ever met. As they are. As there he is.

Speaker 1

Yeah.

Speaker 2

But he He did a spot with my father, which we called the Big Bubba spot, where he, my dad took a wood chair and slammed it over Haku's head. They exploded on his head and Haku just stared there and looked at him and the crowd, you know, oh my, and then put my dad in some sort of nerve hold and Dusty's like bleeding. He's a lot older at this point, all this craziness.

And I am of the age where you can get real hot headed and like that's my, you know, you're proud of your parents. Also, you should probably know this is a collaborative effort at this point, but I don't want to know. I came backstage, my dad's sitting there and he's bleeding and he's like undoing his boots and Haku came in. Again, nicest, most soft spoken.

Speaker 1

I mean,

Speaker 2

he's got a staff, he's carrying a TV. I don't think people, and I hope they do, but at WWE now he's on SmackDown. I hope when he walks around, all the others know what he is, what he could do, and how special he is. Cuz as we get older, that's a long time ago. The new generation may not know. People will forget. People will forget. I try my best, though.

I mean, it's

Speaker 1

great that you're doing that. Let them

Speaker 2

know. Yeah, let them know. The Batman took a man's eye.

Speaker 1

One day people will forget about us all, man.

Speaker 2

Yeah, that's why we got to do like you're doing, get all these movies.

Speaker 1

Yeah, I

Speaker 2

know that's his name. Your upward mobility is just growing.

Speaker 1

What you're doing is you're pushing me into a position where I'm going to have to defend myself, and I'm using a cigar again.

Speaker 2

Yeah. And I'm

Speaker 1

going to have to, you know, defend yourself. I'm going to have to be informal.

Speaker 2

Defend yourself like you did with Koji on the content day, where you kept trying very poor jujitsu style takedowns.

Speaker 1

I feel like I dominated control. While describing

Speaker 2

what you were going to do. That's confidence. Is that not confidence? There's no videos, but there's Hours of time probably lost on the content day because Schultz kept needing to get his hair and makeup redone because he would get rough with Koji. And Koji, if you know Koji, has Koji been on here?

Speaker 1

Not yet. Okay, Koji's real.

Speaker 2

Koji is real life real. He's an absolute 100% legit martial artist, a wanderer, all those things. But for whatever reason, whatever reason Andrew thought he was taken down

Speaker 1

and it was not happening. In the Netflix show with the sex scene with Keira Knightley, by the way, you can watch that. Koji? Yeah. You haven't watched that?

Speaker 3

That's

Speaker 2

very weird that you know that. Why do you think I like

Speaker 1

TV and I appreciate what my co-stars

Speaker 2

do?

Speaker 3

When did you know that?

Speaker 1

Well, I mean, why do you think I was trying to do the jujitsu? I was trying to reenact. I was trying to mount him.

Speaker 2

What a stud, though.

Speaker 1

No, he's peace.

Speaker 2

But why were you trying to fight him?

Speaker 1

I, I, it was like we're there for 12 hours or whatever and like hour six I just got a little silly. Yeah. And then he was pushing my fucking buttons and I had to do something about it. I

Speaker 2

don't think you almost

Speaker 1

got it too.

Speaker 2

Yeah, I think I almost got it too. You almost got it bro. It seemed like everybody was pushing your buttons. Yeah, and

Speaker 1

with me and you it's not collaborative.

Speaker 2

No, no, it's a, well, you know the word for that? What you got your wrestling vernacular? What's the word? No, no, no, the other side of that. If it's not, if it's real, what do we call that? I used it in a text with you the other day. Shoot,

Speaker 1

shoot. And I

Speaker 2

wondered when I, I wondered when I texted you if you were like, what? I said something like, I thought you missed. No, it's a straight shoot.

Speaker 1

No, I did a straight shoot. Are

Speaker 2

you lying that Fuente up?

Speaker 1

Yeah, but I feel like you gave me the one that's going to make me throw up easier. No,

Speaker 2

I've been nothing but, we've been nothing but friendly moments you and I. He's

Speaker 3

been so charming this whole

Speaker 2

time.

Speaker 1

You're the one that's trying to like out the business. How do you ever see

Speaker 3

them win a

Speaker 1

fight? Because he lost in MSG. Sounds like he's walked up on set.

Speaker 2

I don't think I've seen you in a victorious moment.

Yo, come on. Street

Speaker 1

fighter.

Speaker 2

Street fighter, you're, you know,

Speaker 1

am I the only person in WWE history to get my ass kicked, saved by another man, and still go up on the, the ropes? To celebrate.

Speaker 2

No, not at all.

Speaker 1

Really?

Speaker 2

No, no, you're, you, you, everyone goes up on the ropes. And the guys in the truck are like, in their mind, you know, please don't go on the ropes.

Speaker 1

AJ told me to do it. Well,

Speaker 2

then you were fine. AJ

Speaker 1

was like, do you want to go up there? I was like, of

Speaker 2

course I want to go up there, you fucking dare me. Do you know what happens if you go up on the ropes with me? Like, if you go to the second rope to do that, I always do this. At the end of the night, I have a whole collection of people. I'll say, get up there, get up there. Wrestlers, celebs, if they go up there, I get underneath them.

Speaker 1

And you throw them on the shoulders. I

Speaker 2

like to do the shoulder and I collect them. I did it with,

I did it with, Braun Strowman one time, and that guy is legit three bills plus. And it was probably the biggest feat of strength I'd ever done, and I didn't save it for an in. There it is.

Speaker 1

Wow. Yeah, that's a big guy. Yeah. Whoa.

Speaker 2

And I remember, because now I got to walk him back. Walk him back when? I can't just lower it now. So I got to walk him another buckle. So I remember walking him out there, but yeah, I like to keep him. How can you

Speaker 1

feel that on the neck?

Speaker 2

You know, I didn't, I didn't think that way. I didn't think that way. Look at that. Yeah, holding the ropes for a little steadiness.

Yeah,

Speaker 1

that's

Speaker 2

probably the hardest one to collect right there. Yeah, I always do that. So if you get up on there with me, just don't worry about it. Just keep hold of your arms, I got you. You're not going to slip. I'm not going to drop you, I got you. He doesn't wipe that well, though. What's that? He doesn't

Speaker 1

wipe that well. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Who wipes that well? You're going to have a shoulder streak. No, honestly, who wipes that well? And he also gets, like, skeeved out about, like, poop humor.

Speaker 2

Actually, I wouldn't say I get skeeved out about poop humor. He didn't

Speaker 1

even see the word there. He gets skeeved out. He doesn't, like, poopy. I didn't understand that you go from

Speaker 2

this very intellectual mind. He doesn't know you

Speaker 3

don't watch it.

Speaker 2

And he's shaking his hand multiple times. All I know is on set, he would do, he'd be doing his bits. And a lot of them were all.

Speaker 1

He's actually a heel. He presents himself in this lovable, charming guy, and then he just cuts your legs. So you throw everybody little bits. No, but he was doing his skits. He was

doing his skits.

Speaker 2

But then randomly, you just rip one and, like, expect the whole room to die in laughter over that. And it seemed, it seemed. To juxtapose against your humor differently.

Speaker 1

Yeah, but then once I found out it bothered you, like it would bother him. So I'd go into his like little green room, like his little thing when he'd do his, and I just, I'd have like a, I'd ask him like he's a tiny little green room, like. He

Speaker 2

gave me one of the last few days I knew out of kindness. And I just

Speaker 1

fucking let it rip, bro. I would just let it rip. And he would get like, he gets really, he's like my wife is like this a little bit too.

Speaker 3

He has

Speaker 2

like

Speaker 3

IBS, he has some problems.

Speaker 2

Yeah, you've got some sort of gastric distress. Yeah. Not an iron stomach.

Speaker 1

Not at all.

Speaker 2

Not an iron stomach. No.

Speaker 1

What are you trying to say with it, man?

Speaker 2

Some have a iron stomach and some people drink coffee and like immediately like a little kid run to the bathroom. Yeah, like a child. Yeah. Or where do you fit on that scale? Are you

Speaker 1

trying to infantilize me right now?

Speaker 2

No. Are we having a little face off? Are we having a little

Speaker 1

face off right now? Is that what's happening? Are we practicing for the heel turn, Cody? Is that what's going on?

Speaker 2

Man, I think the last time I was on your show was what, two years ago or three? I think we talked about a heel turn then. Look, look how long this is. Can

Speaker 1

I ask you a question?

Speaker 2

Well, yeah. If you

Speaker 1

go heel.

Speaker 2

Okay.

Speaker 1

Is it dark hair?

Speaker 2

Oh, that's a very good question. I don't know. Would it be? I think dark hair with one little blonde streak. That's kind of cool. Just so

Speaker 1

you're kind of cool. Like rogue?

Speaker 2

Like you got struck by lightning? Yeah, exactly. What franchise

Speaker 1

is Rogan? We drinking?

Speaker 2

I was grabbing this one right here. You got, and give me that. Did you ever like that or did it ever happen? No, I'm

Speaker 1

not good at that part.

Speaker 2

I gave you that one. Okay. Is the white happening?

Speaker 1

Yes. Please.

Speaker 2

Yes. So you light a

Speaker 1

little bit first.

Speaker 2

You ever seen the movie Swordfish? Swordfish. Wait a minute, with John Travolta and Halle

Speaker 1

Berry?

Speaker 2

Yes.

Speaker 1

Full, full, topless Halle

Speaker 2

Berry. So Swordfish. It's

Speaker 1

an encyclopedia of curve knowledge. Unbelievable. I can imagine, I mean, yes. Any celebrity actress who's topless.

Speaker 2

Swordfish in the beginning, I always tell people when they get into cigars, I say just watch the beginning of Swordfish cuz he's cutting this monologue about the, I think it's the war economy. But it's perfect. Clips the cigar, toast it, and lights it, and it's perfect. Cuz I feel like with cigar culture, a lot of gatekeeping. You know, you don't, a lot of cigar heavies turn other people off to it because of the whole ritual and all that.

Sometimes it's got a great draw, sometimes it doesn't. You don't have to smoke the whole thing, you can put it down. Actually, Cale.

Speaker 1

Great.

Speaker 2

On set.

Speaker 1

Legend.

Speaker 2

Cale, God bless the coolest human ever. I had just finished explaining to everyone that exact same thing, and then he came. Down when we were on the boat. He's like, that's not how you do it. And he was the prime example. No, you got to do it exactly like this. But he's a big cigar guy too. He was the best. He

Speaker 1

was on a flight to London. I text him, he had a bag, a plastic bag of cigars that he's bringing to, to London.

Speaker 2

Oh, okay.

Speaker 1

Caleb's like a pure Epicurean. You know, do you know Epicurean's philosophy is? Just like eat, drink, enjoy. There's no point to anything. It's called

Speaker 2

Epicurean?

Speaker 1

Epicurean, I think he was a, I think he's a Greek. He's a Greek. And

Speaker 2

life is meant to be enjoyed.

Speaker 1

Life is meant to be enjoyed.

Speaker 2

Life liver.

Speaker 1

Speaker 5

It's me, the. We don't need the jingle twice.

Stop it. This is about vacation inflation and how Priceline negotiates amazing deals on hotels, flights, and rental cars.

Yeah, but I didn't mention that you can save up to 60% off hotels in the Priceline app.

Fine. No one deals more deals than... Please stop. Touché. Priceline.

Speaker 2

One out of ten wants his acting. How would you rate him? Okay, so...

Speaker 3

You can just say ten, but I like that you're thinking about it. I want to think

Speaker 2

about it because... Because when I came on set, he had already been rocking and rolling. I even asked you when you were there, I said, are you a producer? Because you were so involved. And everything. He was so involved, and I'm there, it was the day I wasn't shooting, and Cale, who, shout out to Cale, can't, that guy's amazing, but Cale was just putting you over, and how really phenomenal your performance was, and there's a particular scene where you didn't have to go as hard as you did.

I say you didn't have to, but I don't know, but you went, and this isn't a comedy scene, this is a pure on and a beautiful action comedy fun movie, a pure moment of drama that you gave us. And I remember watching, thinking, Okay, all right, like these are heavies here. It was really inspiring because the same day you shot that scene, so as long as they cut the whole scene.

Yeah, the same day you shot that scene though, they ran the sizzle for us.

Speaker 1

Yes, that's right, that's right. So they run

Speaker 2

the sizzle for us and Katow, Cale, Jay, the producer, they're putting the sizzle together and I felt like I was on a little league team and we were getting ready to go play in the championship. The way it was, it was so, I could run through a brick wall. I needed to shoot right away. I'm like, man, they had, they're really, they were so accommodating to, I'd say a non-actor like me, who was coming on and that was my first time on a big set like that.

My first, they gave me rehearsal time, we got rehearsal time on the weekend. That

Speaker 1

was, yeah, that was. Yeah. And then, I'm sorry, go ahead. Well, I'm just saying the trailer thing was really interesting because I was like, because, you know, Cale like really wanted to get the trailer out and I'm sure both of them and Katow directed the movie, it was fucking brilliant and like. I think the idea was we got to let the people in the movie know what the tone of the movie is.

Because there's like 17 different characters or whatever from the game, and each person's coming in maybe with a different perspective of what the movie is, what the humor is in it, like the seriousness and like, I think that was a smart idea. Early on in the process.

Speaker 2

Were you getting ready for the idea? No,

Speaker 1

I didn't do shit. I just came in and shot it. No, I said, yeah, Cataw and kill.

Speaker 2

It was so fun to see Cataw write it. We had a beautiful script ready, and then what we could find on the day, him just rewriting it as it all goes. And

Speaker 1

just like he'll throw you lines. Oh my gosh. They're just fucking amazing. He'll just pepper you with shit. But this scene, it was basically three of us. It was like Noah, please, Ken, Cody, and me. And this is your first day, and it's everybody gets to see Guile for the first time. So you got to understand, like everybody working on the movie played the game.

Speaker 2

Yeah.

Speaker 1

These are all people probably in their like 30s, 40s, 50s that played the game as a kid. And there's obviously you know Ryu and Ken, but Guile's hair,

this is the thing. And then the intro, the first time we see him is just walking down this hallway. And like, it was a pretty cool moment on set, you know?

Speaker 2

I got a, I feel like the highest compliment I ever could have got from Noah. I barely knew Noah, and Noah, I don't think, again, needs to be as kind as he is. What a superhuman person, what a good leader.

Speaker 1

He's amazing leader. Yeah,

Speaker 2

a good leader, and I came on set to have them see my hair, have them see it. Is that right? Is that going to be it? And I hadn't met really anybody. And I come on, and it's a full room, and Noah just yelled, oh man, now we're making Street Fighter. And I thought, oof, I got to, also, you mentioned pork, shredding.

Speaker 1

Go top left, look at this fucking guy. Oh, this is what he looked like for two straight months. So like, certain people will do

You know, like, you know when you're going to shoot your topless shit? They get absolutely shredded. You're in

Speaker 2

great shape.

Speaker 1

For two days.

Speaker 2

Like,

Speaker 1

hey, that's

Speaker 2

all you needed, right? It was

Speaker 1

great for me, by the way.

Speaker 2

Yeah.

Speaker 1

It's not like you guys are like athletes where you have to have your shirt off. Yeah,

Speaker 2

but you're an athlete, speaking of. I was going to ask you. Tell me. I was going to ask you. Yeah,

Speaker 1

yeah, you're lean, by the way, now. I just want to point that out. Did I mention that before? You did.

Speaker 2

You mentioned it. And your, the thread you're trying to pull is that I've gotten lean for a movie role.

Speaker 1

I'm not saying that at all. That I haven't

Speaker 2

disclosed. Did you? I'm not

Speaker 1

saying that at all. That's

Speaker 2

what, yeah. But you did get a new movie role. Shout out to that, Miami Vice. Congratulations.

Speaker 1

You are just, you're a massive fucking guy. Like, usually, like, you're like a physically imposing guy. And now, I feel like you're Yeah, you're just, you're using

Speaker 2

it. Are you

Speaker 1

saying he's like more delicate now? No, he's not more delicate, but I just feel like if you took that off, don't do it, but I would just see cuts and shreds and just.

Speaker 2

Here's a hard detour for you.

Speaker 1

Yeah.

Speaker 2

do you still plan paddle?

Speaker 1

I fuck my Achilles up, man.

Speaker 2

How? Career ending injury.

Speaker 1

I know.

Speaker 2

How? Playing

Speaker 1

paddle. That's crazy. Fuck my Achilles up a little bit. So it's been, it's been knocking me down on my paddle game. That sounds like a thing you

Speaker 2

can F up a little bit. It seems like

Speaker 5

it's all or nothing, right? Yeah,

Speaker 2

all or nothing on Achilles, right?

Speaker 1

Are you, are you implying that I'm faking it?

Speaker 2

No, I'm just saying. Are you

Speaker 1

using the fucking F word with me?

Speaker 2

No. What I'm saying is that. You're not playing paddle anymore.

Speaker 1

no, I am going to play once I heal myself. I need a couple. Because the amount

Speaker 2

of paddle. I'd say paddle pushing.

Speaker 1

Yeah, I do a lot of paddle pushing.

Speaker 2

You were, everyone who could listen, you were talking about going to play paddle, and also you were playing with strangers.

Speaker 1

I was playing with strangers. You

Speaker 2

were literally setting up these paddle baits. Yeah, yeah. I just thought this is, I wanted to know if you were still doing it, because you were so into it. Singlely

Speaker 1

obsessed.

Speaker 2

Really? And I just can't play it right now. Is paddle a thing in the States? Because there was a thing there.

Speaker 1

No, it's not.

Speaker 2

It was huge there.

Speaker 1

No, it wasn't. We were building it there. Now it's big.

Speaker 2

Now it's big. Now it's big. So you, to your part.

Speaker 1

They're doing it at the Sydney Opera House now, I'm just saying.

Speaker 2

Wow.

Speaker 1

Yeah.

Speaker 3

Any place with like Spaniards or like Mexicans paddle like really.

Speaker 2

Paddle for free.

Speaker 3

Yeah,

Speaker 1

yeah, yeah. We got to get you in.

Speaker 3

Without them.

Speaker 2

You know, I don't think I'm ever going to play a game of paddle.

Like, will I, so if you, if you were sitting on the paddle world championships and you were in it, I'm not trying to. If you were in the paddle world championships, I would come and support you and be about it. This is even worse. Like you would

Speaker 3

support him on like his little hobbies.

Speaker 1

You see the infantilizing thing he does? What's the Kenny,

Speaker 2

what's the Kenny Powers quote about when the try? And then he just talks

Speaker 1

over me like I'm not even here. So it's like, it's a really interesting energy that he says. He says something

Speaker 2

about, I play real sports, I'm not trying to be good at exercise and this. That's a, that's a classic. And not applying that to us. I can't apply that. It's just a

Speaker 3

funny quote. I can't. But it feels like you are.

Speaker 2

Not at all. I'm supporting of the paddle thing. If you wanted to play paddle with me one-on-one or however paddle works, I, I, I'd play with you. I take it back. I'd play paddle with you. I would.

Speaker 1

Well, I feel like I make a wish, Cody. And I'm glad that you could deliver on that.

Speaker 2

Well, I just wanted to know if you're still playing paddle. I'm sorry about your Achilles. I am. Which side?

Speaker 1

left side. Strong side.

Speaker 2

Great movie.

Speaker 1

Great movie. Fantastic. Run it

Speaker 2

up, Herman. Leave no doubt. Come on. Run it up. One of my absolute. No, no, no. That, that movie was great then.

Speaker 1

Tonight they will remember.

Speaker 2

Man, that, it was great then. It's still, it's still great. It's still great.

Speaker 1

Run it up.

Speaker 2

No, remember the Titans. Remember

Speaker 1

the Titans. I

Speaker 3

knew it was football. I

Speaker 1

knew it was football. I did know it was football, though.

Speaker 2

We need, hey guys, can we get some more cups

Speaker 1

in here?

Speaker 2

We got. Run it up, Herman.

Speaker 1

Are you drinking? Oh,

Speaker 2

it's your house. If, if, if. I. Yes, yes. I shouldn't have. Yes, yes, yes.

Speaker 1

Are we going to keep doing this?

Speaker 2

I won't talk about it. No, no, no, I just,

Speaker 1

are we going to keep doing this? Because you specifically were like, hey, we're smoking cigars and we're drinking. I did

Speaker 2

mention the cigars, which are phenomenal. Thank you, by the way. You're very

Speaker 1

welcome. How is it,

Speaker 2

by the way? It's good. But

Speaker 1

now we're doing, but now you're doing a thing where like I'm almost pulling you into drinking. When this is your idea from the beginning, is it too many calories?

Speaker 2

Why are you

Speaker 1

undercut? Are you not able to drink? Is that the problem? Can I

Speaker 2

tell a story about you drinking?

Speaker 1

You can tell a story. Is it a Cody lie or is it a Cody truth?

Speaker 2

The Schultz lies are worse than the Cody lie. Don't even put

Speaker 1

your lies on me. You know his reputation in the business.

Speaker 2

No. It's got a

Speaker 1

little bit of a rep. A

Speaker 2

Cody lie is, it's got to be rooted in truth, but you want to put a little, you want to put a little sauce on it. Oh,

Speaker 3

like a good storyteller.

Speaker 2

Yeah, exactly. Simple, yeah, you want to put a little spin.

Speaker 1

Another. Call the Cody live while describing a Cody

Speaker 2

live. So I'll talk to you about Andrew and I over in Austria drinking and what I expected. I'm good. I'll have it neat.

Speaker 1

Oh, you want it neat? Okay.

Speaker 3

Yeah. Hey, chop chop.

Speaker 1

Yeah. Yeah.

Speaker 2

So

Speaker 3

everyone's bossing you around today.

Speaker 2

Andrew oversees again. This

Speaker 1

is

Speaker 3

unbelievable.

Speaker 2

I get there and he is, I thought he was a real producer. He was super active. He was supportive of everybody. Another great leader on set. Yeah. What's his name? I was, I was very kind of nervous about this whole thing, right? And he kept saying to me, hey, are we going to have a night? And these are your words. Oh, yeah. We're going to have a night.

I've

Speaker 3

heard this spiel before. You don't even have to. This is not a Cody law. We're

Speaker 2

going to have a night. That sounds like a show. So when he said it, when he said it, here's what I thought.

Speaker 3

The gang

Speaker 1

up. Was he rubbing his

Speaker 3

stomach while he was doing

Speaker 2

it? He might have been, you know. But it happened on multiple occasions. And finally, I'm thinking, this is approaching. And when you say that to somebody in the wrestling space, a very archaic wrestling space that how we do, if someone says, hey, we're going to have a drink together, we're going to have a night, that means all night. That means we might go out in Australia and flip a cop car.

That means we might have a story for the rest of our lives.

Speaker 3

Sun's coming up. Basically,

Speaker 2

you are committing to we're going to go. There's no warning. Right. And you kept saying, are we going to have a night? And then the night never came. And then there were a few moments where we were at Cataw through this wonderful dinner party. Yeah. And that's where I Got the sense maybe I'm, shouldn't be worried cuz maybe he doesn't really drink at all.

Because finally, when it comes around, would you guys like anything to drink? Thinking this is probably step one of the night. He ordered an Aperol Spritz. And

Speaker 3

for the night, for the

Speaker 2

night, an Aperol Spritz. Horrible time

Speaker 1

across my legs.

Speaker 2

Tell that

Speaker 1

part again.

Speaker 2

So he ordered this Aperol Spritz and I thought, oh, and maybe, maybe I'll ask him because I'm actually, I love to, it was his. And I, I like this idea of a night, but also we're, we're there doing work.

Speaker 1

We're there doing work.

Speaker 2

So I, I thought that, you know, okay, maybe this, maybe I can kind of level with him. I'm not really looking to go crazy either here, pal. But then it got worse because he ordered that Aperol Spritz, which I thought, not the, not the, you know, not the drink I was expecting. And then you try to take it up a notch. And you ordered a whiskey.

Speaker 1

I did.

Speaker 2

And I'll never forget, and that's where I knew, oh, he doesn't really drink at all. And, and, and thank God,

thank God. He

Speaker 1

doesn't really

Speaker 2

drink. What is this?

Speaker 1

Yeah, thank God, but thank

Speaker 2

God. So he goes, he goes, he goes, I'll, I'll get a, a whiskey ice. And she goes, on the rocks? He goes, nah, neat. And she goes, so no ice, no, with ice. And they had this whole back and forth. Yeah. I thought, oh, we're good. He don't even. I'm jet lagged.

Speaker 1

I'm 20 hours away from. Dude, this was a major trip. This was a major trip. But there was another thing. I, I messed up the way to say it. Yeah, yeah. No, but

Speaker 2

it was okay because I, I think I even asked you, hey, you're not really a big drinker, are you? And you said, not really. And I said, yeah, me neither. We're good. You want to know what

Speaker 1

I wanted to say? What did

Speaker 2

you want to say? I want

Speaker 1

an ice back.

Speaker 2

Okay?

Speaker 1

So I could decide how many cubes I wanted in my drink.

Speaker 2

okay, okay. Yeah,

Speaker 1

that's what I've calculated. Are

Speaker 2

people ordering like that? After an ice pack?

Speaker 1

Yeah.

Speaker 2

Okay. Well,

Speaker 1

if you don't want to water down your drink too much.

Speaker 2

I get you. Do

Speaker 1

you drink?

Speaker 2

I don't drink as much as you assume. Oh, as I assume? And you don't drink as much. Do you

Speaker 1

know how this whole thing started?

Speaker 2

You saying, do you want a nightlight rubbing your belly? This is how it started,

Speaker 1

okay? Cody and I were kind of like describing our, our early years in our respective businesses, okay? And there are painful similarities of the loneliness that one endures, just hotel rooms, shitty hotel, you're by yourself. And, and then Cody over shares.

Speaker 3

Oh, really? I

Speaker 2

tend to overshare. And,

Speaker 1

no, no, it was beautiful. It was a beautiful, vulnerable thing. And you were like, yeah, I mean, like, what I usually do, cause I was like, do you want to come watch this UFC fight? Right?

Speaker 2

Yes.

Speaker 1

And, you know, all the cast was coming together, watching, see, see, it's

Speaker 2

like, amazing

Speaker 1

spot, where Ben's fighting him, you know, Volkanovski was gonna, who's in the movie, was gonna cook for everybody. I'm like, come. And then Cody's like, yeah, dude, I'll absolutely come. I mean, usually I'm just drinking whiskey alone in my hotel room in the dark. Yep.

Speaker 2

I don't know if I put in the dark. That seems like the show fly on a, his head. I'm not, I'm not

Speaker 1

judging that up. You're like, I drink whiskey alone in the dark, and then I go to sleep.

Speaker 3

Well, you share something with me that's vulnerable. Like, I wouldn't just blast.

Speaker 2

That's

Speaker 1

why I didn't feel comfortable even sharing it now until he's been a dick.

Speaker 2

I was just telling that guy, it was very nice that we never really did have, like,

Speaker 1

a proper night,

Speaker 2

that proper night. And I still wonder,

Speaker 1

but hold on,

Speaker 2

do you want that? Because there's a lot, there's a lot of, there's a lot going on.

Speaker 1

I want it.

Speaker 2

Yeah, okay, all right. I

Speaker 1

want it.

Speaker 2

Okay, all right. Okay? I'm, I'm down.

Speaker 1

I get to choose the drinks.

Speaker 2

See, Shirley Temple.

Speaker 1

Yes. Just credit.

Speaker 2

I

Speaker 1

No, so he says that, And then he's like, yeah, you know, we drink, and then you're telling me John's stories, like you and Sina,

Speaker 2

getting

Speaker 1

after it.

Speaker 2

That's when you say you're going to have a night, John would have an ace.

Speaker 1

He'd

Speaker 2

have a case and then a, what we call a dirty 30 in another cooler in the back when the case got done. So you

Speaker 1

polish off the case. So

Speaker 2

if you got three guys and you've gone through 24, and then you're looking at a dirty 30 as well, that's a night. That's people falling down the side of the road. That's, you know, like you're picking up, I keep going back to the cars, but turning cars over. When

Speaker 1

do you have the Aperol Spritz?

Speaker 2

You know what? It's not in there usually. Really? Yeah, it's not in there.

Speaker 1

That's an older generation.

Speaker 2

Yeah, and maybe, again, I wasn't, I think I was more nervous the idea like, oh man, all right, he's old school.

Speaker 1

See, I was trying to pull everybody in. I'm the new guy. Oh,

Speaker 2

I thought it was a comedy thing. Like wrestling, I thought it was a comedy thing. I thought in the world of comedy, maybe that's a thing. No, no, no. Hey, you know, for example, I don't know, or I'm not friendly with many comedians. Bert is one I'm friendly with. I know Bert can have a night. He,

Speaker 1

yeah. And has

Speaker 2

had nights. Many a

Speaker 1

nights.

Speaker 2

Yes, but yours was different, and I appreciated that and respect that. Well, to me,

Speaker 1

to me, the night is just connecting with my friends.

Whatever allows me to connect with my friends and learn about their future projects and just really. I just really, I just really feel.

Speaker 2

Speaking of future projects, congrats, dude. Congrats,

congrats. Cheers,

Speaker 1

cheers.

Speaker 2

How was Cody as an actor? This is like his first big role. Yeah. On a major scale. Cody Crusher,

Speaker 1

listen, we're going to do this like typical thing that like we always see with people in movies where it's like you talk about the experience and like glaze the experience. Yeah. But like you were fucking, I think you blew people away. I remember when they were thinking of casting you.

Speaker 2

Yeah.

Speaker 1

I remember, I remember they.

Speaker 2

How did you know they were like in the talks to cast him? Like you were a student? They all called me. This guy's really, he's like,

Speaker 1

what do you think about, what do you think about Guile? What do you think of Cody Rhodes for Guile? And I was like, what about Joe Hendry?

Speaker 2

Yeah. Scottish Joe Hendry? Scottish? No, no,

Speaker 1

no. What I, I mean, when I told him, I was like, I think he's a fucking stud and he's like amazing. And, and, but I'd never seen you act.

Speaker 2

Yeah.

Speaker 1

But my feeling was like,

Speaker 3

now he's taking credit for you getting the part. No,

Speaker 1

not at all. Not at all, it had nothing to do with it. Anyway, this decision's already made. They just throw him over me. I say, of course. They need your sign off. Exactly, yeah, yeah.

Speaker 2

And the power.

Speaker 1

Anyway.

Speaker 2

Power, dude.

Speaker 1

You come in, and the first scene is like, I don't know what you are expecting first scene.

Speaker 2

Sure.

Speaker 1

Cuz I don't know if like, I don't know if in your head you're like, I got to make sure I get these lines down and I got to go do it. Cuz that was my feeling when I first. 100%. It's like I need to do it. Reminders on

Speaker 2

paper, I want no one have to remind me of them, no one.

Speaker 1

And I'm an asshole cuz whatever is on the paper, I'm not saying.

Speaker 2

Yeah, that's all. So if you got around to what was on the paper. It

Speaker 1

always comes through. You were well prepared. It always comes through. You

Speaker 2

had ideas too. Yeah.

Speaker 1

Yeah. But what happened very quickly is you just started playing. And there's like a run where you're just kind of peppering things. You want

Speaker 2

to know my favorite piece of direction? More pre-workout. My favorite piece of direction, because I found myself sticking my jaw out a lot, just very intense. Wanted to be very intense, because you, I think you were about to ask about the preparation for this. Preparation was all traditional. Let me look into the military and, you know,

Speaker 1

from 80 to

Speaker 2

94, let me look at all this. Let me find a realistic, why is the hair like this? Like literally

Speaker 3

military.

Speaker 2

Yeah, and all of that, which was helpful to have it way back here.

Speaker 1

Outside perspective, I thought that you knew your character. And I don't want to compare with anybody, but I thought you knew that character. As well as I've ever seen anybody that I've acted with know their character. Oh,

Speaker 2

thank you.

Speaker 1

To the point where you would just kind of be in set with the hair, whenever you had the hair on, you were kind of in character. Yeah. Like we could also like talk shit about fucking wrestling or family or whatever, but like you might just like mutter shit in character and then it would work and then it would be in the movie. Like I I think with you, I think your your time in the movie doubled since you arrived.

Speaker 2

I did, I also think. But they

Speaker 1

added scenes for him.

Speaker 2

Oh, really? They

Speaker 1

popped him in other shit.

Speaker 2

I was very blessed that it when I stayed the extra the extra week, I was, it was a smaller role. Yeah. And then it, the movie was a living breathing organism and it was growing. Let me brag

Speaker 1

for you, you killed it and they were like, how do we put him in more things?

I see how easy it is to be nice to your friends. Do you see

Speaker 2

how easy it is to

Speaker 1

be kind? But yeah, try and tell us. Isn't that, isn't that so nice? Yeah. Thank

Speaker 2

you. Did

Speaker 3

they add scenes for you?

Speaker 1

They just cut the scenes for me. Yeah. We filmed a lot. We filmed a lot though. Some

Speaker 3

of your scenes then. Yes, they were

Speaker 1

very, yes, they were very generous and I think that.

Speaker 2

Well, our characters also had a fun, we discovered that the characters have a fun relationship.

Speaker 1

This is why, and again, I know this seems like whatever, but this is why I got to give a lot of credit to Katow and Kale. It's like they saw stuff that was working and then in real time, they were like, okay, how do we build more of these moments? What can we do that extend, oh, this relationship dynamic is fun? Let's milk it. Let's stretch it out.

Let's put it in other places. And I don't know if a lot of people are doing that. Like I genuinely like, you've got millions of dollars on the line, you've got to make your day. If you don't make your day, you don't get the thing. And they're literally just going, I'll try like that then.

Speaker 2

What an Epicurean stud.

Speaker 1

He's an Epicurean at his core. You know what he said to me the other day? What's that? I got to read the text. He goes,

he goes, yeah, I'm just getting out of the bath. I go, what? He goes, I'm a bath guy. Oh, wow. Okay, okay. Cale wakes up at 4.30 every morning to bathe.

Speaker 2

Wow. Literally. Are you at Cale on the show? Is Cale been on the show? No, no.

Speaker 1

Cale,

Speaker 2

I was getting so on set. You're probably

Speaker 1

giving him too much heat right now. He's going to get in trouble. No,

Speaker 2

no, but does he get mad if you mention him a lot? I don't

Speaker 1

know. I'm not sure. Well, then

Speaker 2

I'll wrap up my Cale Catao piece with this.

I, this was such a huge opportunity for me, and I was so excited to do it. And over the course of us filming, I don't think I've had that much fun in years. No, it was crazy. The amount of stuff the cast did together, the amount we got to try stuff on set, the movie being really involved too, not being held, you know, in the dark on where this is going and what, really involved.

I think about Cale and Cattell all the time in a way that I thought maybe it's just my first movie, but like I take a bullet for those guys. Those are like they they took a big gamble on me. He said, these are small scenes, couple lines, pass by these guys, go down the elevator, and the next thing you know, it's just growing and it's becoming this thing.

And I hope people love it cuz we had such a fun time making it.

Speaker 1

We had

Speaker 2

such a fun time.

Speaker 1

This is like the cool thing about being in Australia, is that when you're wherever you live, you have all the responsibilities of wherever you live. And when you're in a foreign country, nobody has anything to do but make the movie. So like people are coming to set on days where they weren't even filming just to hang. And like this is also director, producers, everybody's there doing nothing but the movie.

So it's almost like, you know, when like boxers do a fight camp in the Poconos or some shit, it's like to get away from any distraction, then they're like 100% locked in. And I think because of that, everybody really started to get along, and then there was this kind of fun chemistry that would come out in scenes. And, you know, to Katal and, you know, Kael and everybody, and Jay, shout out Jay, well, we need, you know, unspoken hero.

But like,

Speaker 2

they

Speaker 1

just, they would start to, like, get the chemistry, and they would really, like, feed.

Speaker 2

Yeah, it

Speaker 3

takes a lot of confidence the day of to be, like, switching scenes or, like, improving scenes. Oh, yeah, like you

Speaker 2

said, the day, you gotta make that day. Katal

Speaker 1

is just, like, insane. Like, I don't think, did you ever see him get

Speaker 2

stressed? Not once. I saw him walk around set one time. Thought maybe he's flustered cuz he was walking and I don't think I saw him one time. It's like a

Speaker 1

hundred people asking things, like annoying actors like us, like, but would my character actually, like we're doing like this. It's a video

Speaker 3

game character.

Speaker 1

Yeah, he's taking a shit in the woods and he's like, but would my character wipe with.

Speaker 2

But what I really like, and it's very similar in the wrestling space, cuz sometimes distill down wrestling and we have to, there's all these hills you want to die on and then you have to remind yourself, hey, sometimes you're just in your underwear play fighting with your friends. Yeah. I know like let's, but what I loved and I found this with Noah, cuz I was going to ask you who you thought, you know, everyone was such a MVP on the set, but I found this with Noah when he was asking questions.

Speaker 1

Yeah.

Speaker 2

I was so intrigued by the process. Of him talking to Koji about their relationship and asking these questions. When people see the Ken Ryu dynamic, they worked on it. So they really, they really wanted to make that brotherhood a thing. And it, it got me the bug. I'm gonna give you another knee tap. It got me the bug. Watching him work, I thought, I, I, I wanna do this.

Speaker 1

Yeah, it was, yeah, like, Noah and Koji, Noah's, Noah's like a really good number one. Because Noah's the type of guy who like, even if he's not in the shot, like obviously you have to like film things this way, and then you film things the other way. And there's certain guy, like he's at a point like his career and success where like, he doesn't have to be there if he's not in the coverage.

But like, he would like be jumping and falling on a mat.

Speaker 2

Yeah.

Speaker 1

When the camera's not on. Yeah. Just to like have something to react to. And I think what happens is like when the number one does that, Everybody else starts to go, all right, I, you know, this is the standard.

Speaker 3

Kobe's showing up early for practice.

Speaker 2

If

Speaker 1

Kobe's showing up at 5.30, everybody got to be there at 5.30. And I think that that's like something that's like not really said, but I think everybody kind of understood. You know, you got, yeah, I was really impressed with him.

Speaker 3

What other like wrestling analogs did you find to acting? Like what did you pull in from the wrestling career? The character

Speaker 1

work has to be,

Speaker 2

I think probably the number one thing, and I got it with him the most, was when you're with really talented people who can improv and can riff, don't get in your head over the thing you're saying. Don't, oh, this, don't look for the A++ joke. It might be, you might have hit the C joke, the B, you're going to find the A++. Your partner might be the one who finds it.

But basically that was for me, I did not want to get behind. When everyone started moving, I didn't want to be the one just still reading direct off the script when we are now talking all over the place. Reacting

Speaker 1

real time. So

Speaker 2

that was very helpful. And that's, I mean, that in the wrestling space is directly from not just in-ring promos, but in-ring promos with a really good live audience and in-ring promos with a Rock, with a Cena, with a Seth. That

Speaker 1

are just going to go.

Speaker 2

If it's going another way, we're going another way. Don't get stuck in it.

Speaker 3

And being in the moment enough. Being in the moment,

Speaker 2

yeah. Even

Speaker 1

like that little car scene that they have in like the trailer between us, like kind of what was on the page wasn't exactly there. And I think maybe it was Katao or something like that. It was like, you know, what if you get in there and you're like really concerned about Kyle?

Speaker 2

Oh, my face. Yeah, yeah, yeah,

Speaker 1

yeah,

Speaker 2

yeah. Who is your MVP on set? Obviously there, I thought everyone was phenomenal. I mean, I got really close.

Speaker 1

I got, you're talking about actors or?

Speaker 2

Just somebody, maybe a better way to look at it, cuz I don't, everyone was so serious about what they wanted to do. But when I watched it, there were two that I left thinking, their performance stuck with me. I had two in mind.

Speaker 1

Go.

Speaker 2

Kalina and David.

Speaker 1

You know, Kalina's so good. I didn't get to work with David a lot, so seeing his stuff felt like I got to watch a movie.

Speaker 2

Yeah, David's bison.

Speaker 1

Yeah, you guys know David Desmalchian, right? He's just like a fucking brilliant actor. He's awesome.

Speaker 2

He took it a different way.

Speaker 1

Yeah, yeah. Who did Kalina play? Chun-Li. Oh, Chun-Li. Oh, yeah. Chun-Li, she put this

Speaker 2

eyes on and the thighs, that's all real story and like went for it, man. That's some good, that's a,

Speaker 1

let me just clarify something right now. We didn't fucking measure her thighs at the beginning of the production.

There was, there was, there was no fucking creepy Hollywood producer going, hey, you're at 19. Let's see if we can get you to 25. We just noticed that she really, she

Speaker 2

did it. That's all I'm saying. That

Speaker 1

was on her. Yeah.

Speaker 2

But we,

Speaker 3

we appreciate

Speaker 1

it. You know how many people sent me this pic right there? They were like, is that real?

Speaker 2

Your little trailer was right, right around the corner.

Speaker 1

Yeah, we had a fun little community.

Speaker 2

Yeah, we had a fun little, little, little park there.

I felt bad cause, Eric Andre took mine after I left. Bro, he, and I had never, I smoked so many cigars in that trailer. And

Speaker 3

nobody,

Speaker 1

nobody knows. So I was coming

Speaker 2

in, dropping, you know, salts bombs in there. What

Speaker 1

Eric did to that trailer, nobody remembers. Got

Speaker 2

it. Eric's phenomenal too.

Speaker 1

Eric came in like a fucking hurricane. It was unbelievable.

Speaker 2

And that character needs it.

Speaker 1

It was unbelievable. And they like mapped out his voice. Yeah. Cause like When he, when he, when he was going, he's going. And he's on a hundred and he's fucking, yeah, it's wild. It's like a tornado. And he's filling up this arena cause he's like the announcer. So he's screaming, he's ad-libbing, he's just saying crazy shit. They're basically just going roll and then Eric does Eric.

Speaker 2

Yeah.

Speaker 1

And they basically saved his voice. So they let him go hard the first two days and then they did where he's background the next two days or whatever because they're like, we know he's going to lose his voice if we just let him go. But they wanted him to go to get the, the gold.

Speaker 2

I almost always had to be in the background because I own, there was only one proper wig. We had multiple guile wigs. Oh, but they

Speaker 1

couldn't put the. There was only one

Speaker 2

that was really sharp and proper and I wanted to be there on all things. And when I put it on to his point, I was trying to kind of be in it. Yeah. But there's a scene where Koji and I are about a mile away.

Speaker 1

Yeah.

Speaker 2

And he sat with me for about five minutes. And I, we're, we're not even in the shot. We're barely in the back. He's talking to me for about five minutes. And he's like, hey, I, I don't. And then the next thing you know, it was a different Koji who was sitting next to me. But all the- Did you

Speaker 1

notice him?

Speaker 2

Yeah, I definitely noticed. I definitely noticed. Guyel wouldn't have. Guyel wouldn't have. Guyel's worldly. He's a millionaire man. The hell of the US is an American hero? Sure. Air Force.

Speaker 3

You know? Yeah.

Speaker 2

Yeah. Dude, Koji, you don't,

Speaker 1

dude, Koji is such a legend, bro. This guy truly is serious.

Speaker 2

Yeah.

Speaker 1

Like, to the point where like, he would like go to the beach and just stare at the water.

Speaker 2

Hell yeah.

Speaker 1

And like, but he has a PA with him at all times. So there'd be a PA just standing behind him. As he sat cross-legged staring at the wall. It's all

Speaker 2

real. This is 100% real. Oh

Speaker 1

yeah, like it was like. He

Speaker 2

was the wanderer. I mean he really is Ryu. I think people will respond huge to. I

Speaker 1

don't even think he has Instagram. Like he's a, he's like a martial artist that like accidentally does acting.

Speaker 2

Oh

Speaker 3

okay.

Speaker 2

Yeah. you you mentioned PAs and stuff. You kept talking to me about your driver.

and then I come to find out your driver was the missus.

Speaker 1

What was it, missus?

Speaker 2

Was your wife.

Speaker 1

First

Speaker 3

of all,

Speaker 1

first of all,

Speaker 2

he's doing a Cody lie. It's like actually

Speaker 1

going to be weird because I did have a female driver. So now my wife's watching this like, you kept talking about the driver? Yeah,

Speaker 2

yeah, yeah. One

Speaker 1

time we picked up Cody. And

Speaker 2

she drove.

Speaker 1

Yeah, but this is where a lie. Is that

Speaker 3

your driver? That seems like a rude thing to say. So my

Speaker 1

wife, if you want to know what a misogynist Cody is, my wife and I. I just didn't really. I saw

Speaker 2

you were driving. So

Speaker 1

my wife and I go pick up Cody because 50 cent rents out the fucking action park or like Six Flags. Rents out an

Speaker 2

entire theme park and ends the gift giving that was going on on set. Because Cody, because Cody, okay, I

Speaker 1

do a little bar upstairs. We're going to watch the UFC Alexander Volkanovski cooks.

Speaker 2

Very cool. Very nice.

Speaker 1

Cody, the heel that he is in his core, this nice guy bullshit, the heel that he is, rents out a yacht and like does a whole thing on a yacht.

Speaker 3

Oh, that's awesome. I would love to go there. I know, I like that one. It was

Speaker 1

more of a ferry. It was a ferry. It was a windy, no opera house. It was beautiful. It was actually really nice. But now 50, 50 then comes in and he's like, all right, I got to one up. I mean, I'm 50 cent. So he rents out fucking Six Flags.

Speaker 2

Yeah.

Speaker 1

I go, hey, we're going, do you want us to scoop you on the way? He goes, sure. My wife drives.

Speaker 2

And you said my driver will get you.

Speaker 1

No, I didn't say that.

Speaker 2

I didn't

Speaker 1

say that at all. It's funny that that's how you remember it, because that's not how I said it in one bit at all. I said, we'll come get you, me and my wife. Yeah.

Speaker 2

Okay,

Speaker 1

my wife was driving. Cody, remember, they drive on the other side of the street in Australia. Yeah. So at first, when he saw my wife in the misogynistic position that he expects women to be in, it was normal. Right? So when we pull up and the door opens, he's like, yeah, this makes total sense to my brain when I see women in the passenger seat.

Then when he sees like rotation of the steering wheel. That's when I put

Speaker 2

it together.

Speaker 1

You said, you went, you went, what's going on? You said something like that. You're like, what's going on? You were like, are you injured? Like you asked me if I was injured.

Speaker 2

Yeah, I know you had an Achilles thing.

Speaker 3

You can't hit the brake. Yeah, yeah. So

Speaker 2

you were shocked

Speaker 1

that my wife drives. My wife drives more than me. She's a better driver.

Speaker 2

Yeah, no. You don't

Speaker 1

let your wife drive.

Speaker 2

Car? She drives her car. If I'm in the car with her, I should be driving.

Speaker 1

But what if you're having some whiskeys?

Speaker 2

Were we having whiskeys? No, we weren't. No, we weren't. My car listens to this shit. His wife always drives. Just

Speaker 1

for the record, my wife does always drive. But in that circumstance, I was like, maybe I'll drink. And my wife was pregnant at the time, so she's definitely drinking.

Speaker 3

Not

Speaker 1

drinking. So she could have drove.

Speaker 2

Also, now we have to add 50 Emmy Award winning. We forgot. Emmy Award

Speaker 1

winning.

Speaker 2

I think he's coming on, what do you want to talk about? I think you are too on my pod, and we got to make sure we give him his one in Emmy now. That's crazy. It's a big deal.

Speaker 3

Did you know 50 before the movie?

Speaker 2

No. Did you

Speaker 1

guys have scenes together or no?

Speaker 2

Yeah.

Speaker 1

Oh, the fight scene. Yeah,

Speaker 2

yeah.

Speaker 3

You grew up listening to G-Unit.

Speaker 2

Of course.

Speaker 3

So you now meet 50 Cent. 50 Cent was the

Speaker 2

person, my sister, when I was giving her the cast. She was the, that was the one she was most excited about, was being, just being around 50. And speaking of, you talk about Noah taking it so serious, 50 every morning, if people watch his bullrog performance and think, man, he's got some moves boxing-wise, he was training every morning.

Speaker 1

But you know he used to box, right?

Speaker 2

Yeah, but I mean, just the fact that he was, you would have thought he was at the end of the month going to fight somebody. Bro,

Speaker 1

he lost like 30 pounds. It was,

Speaker 2

it was so incredible. He was in there every morning doing true boxing training. On a liquid

Speaker 1

diet. Liquid diet. Yeah, he said, I haven't chewed anything in two weeks. He tried

Speaker 2

to give you his watch, and it was, I watched, you were such a gentleman, you would not accept. I don't think I would have had the willpower.

Speaker 3

He

Speaker 2

spilled a, a drink on Andrew, and Andrew, he was like, oh, I'm so sorry. Past

Speaker 1

dinner, everybody gets to know each other. I'm so

Speaker 2

sorry, take my watch. What was on his wrist was, oh

Speaker 3

my gosh.

Speaker 2

And he was like, no, I'm not taking this. Diamond-encrusted

Speaker 1

presidential. Oh,

Speaker 2

yeah. Iced out presidential. It was unbelievable. And why didn't

Speaker 3

you tell, you felt you can pull it off?

Speaker 1

What? Well, see how you're influencing everybody else

Speaker 3

around here. No, I'm not. He gave it to you. That's the

Speaker 1

homie, man. I'm not going to take his watch. That'd be, you know, just for.

Speaker 3

Refusing a gift is kind of rude, though. Yeah.

Speaker 2

He really wanted you to have it. Right?

Speaker 3

That

Speaker 1

is fucking rude.

Speaker 2

I think the look of the watch let you know, like, I cannot take this. What? It was so, it was so, that watch has probably is upwards of 750,000 plus. It's probably over a million, and he was just offering it to you. There's no

Speaker 1

way.

Speaker 2

It's a totally iced out presidential. Do you

Speaker 3

think he knew he wouldn't accept it?

Speaker 2

No, I think 50 was the nicest.

Speaker 1

Yeah.

Speaker 2

He genuinely. If

Speaker 1

it was a watch that didn't matter to him, like if you gave me that watch, like I would take that. Like, but for that, for 50, he's

Speaker 2

also, he's also a nice out. That's

Speaker 3

50 cents watch. I took that watch. No, I can't, I can't, I

Speaker 1

can't. He wouldn't have taken it, come on.

Speaker 2

No, no, but I was, I mean, he kept pushing until I thought he had the willpower on Andrew here, you know, and he had a couple of spritzes in you at that

Speaker 1

point. Every fucking knee tap, I wanted to try to fucking

Speaker 3

unlock.

Speaker 1

It's unbelievable.

Speaker 2

Oh,

Speaker 3

yeah. Oh, yeah. They like you around

Speaker 1

the WWE, miss attitude. Not

Speaker 2

really, actually, you know, yeah. That's

Speaker 1

not true. I hear everybody likes you.

Speaker 2

I think I have a, yeah, I think I have an okay reputation. I, at this point in my career, I think I, and I regret this a little bit, I'm a little siloed up. I'm a little away from every, oh, I imagine. But maybe that

Speaker 1

allows you to be liked by other people.

Speaker 2

Maybe, but like the current kind of locker room, I'm always on the bus. I typically wait a long time before I go in. Yeah, so I feel a little siloed up. I shouldn't be, but I'm a little.

Speaker 1

Are you?

Speaker 2

No, not like that. Just like, I'm not late or anything, but if I'm not needed, I don't want to be.

Speaker 1

A diva?

Speaker 2

I don't know. No, I don't think so. But maybe, but maybe, as I've been doing it a long time. You've been doing

Speaker 1

it a long time.

Speaker 3

Are the other wrestlers jealous? You're like a big famous movie star with movies coming up?

Speaker 1

Yeah, another, another movie. Like new projects that are on there? Yeah, what is a locker room, then?

Speaker 2

I think a locker room is actually very excited about Street Fighter. And I hope we get at the premiere, some of the, some of the boys.

Speaker 1

We gotta.

Speaker 2

Out to see it. Because also, too, it's an opportunity. This movie, Katao Kael, once again, getting a shout out here. They didn't just cast one wrestler. There are three wrestlers in this movie. And I don't know if you know Goto. I don't know if you know Goto. He did the headbutt in New Japan the other day.

Speaker 1

Really? He,

Speaker 2

he made an attempt. So the guy who plays

Speaker 1

E. Honda, you know E. Honda from the game, the sumo wrestler character, is like a iconic wrestler in Japan that like these guys knew and like partied with when they would go wrestle in Japan.

Speaker 2

Like we had nights. No, we never had any nights. Go to, go to. You did

Speaker 1

tell me you had an, there was like a fixer that you have when you're over

Speaker 2

there. Not a fixer, a sponsor. When you go to Japan. Sorry, sponsor. The gaijins, the American wrestlers will have a sponsor. Yeah. And they'll take you out and sometimes they're. Is that something

Speaker 1

about a jacket?

Speaker 2

The ribera jacket. The ribera jacket. Yeah, yeah, but that's a whole nother. If you go.

Speaker 1

Yeah.

Speaker 2

I mean, you've, you've rubbed shoulders now with this man right here. They need to give you a ribera jacket. But what is a ribera jacket? Ribera is a steakhouse in Japan. I think there's two locations, correct, you know, that when you go, they have built the steakhouse around wrestling. There's wrestlers all on the outside and there's wrestlers, there's a picture on every surface of, there it is, of this building.

And. It's, it's from way back. It's also mixed martial arts. I mean, Ribera, when you go in though as a wrestler, if you're, there's Cena right there, you get a jacket and you take a picture in front of that Ribera logo. And these jackets date back, guys were wearing these almost as merch in the 80s. They were wearing, if you had a Ribera jacket on, you were somebody.

It was like a letterman's jacket. You were a thing. And there's Taker right there. Oh wow.

Speaker 1

What about Andre?

Speaker 2

Yeah, Andre definitely had been in Ribera. Here's a fun little fact about Ribera, and I hope they don't mind me throwing this out. When they know you're coming, they might move your picture. So to

Speaker 1

make it closer to the smart.

Speaker 2

I came and I know my picture is usually on the ceiling next to my brother and my dad. My dad has like ten different pictures in there throughout his career. I've got one or two. But the last time I came, it was right above the bar dead center. And I thought, I love these guys. And I love I love this culture.

Speaker 1

That's beautiful.

Speaker 2

And they they the jackets, they don't say it. They just ask you your size and then they come out and they're really crazy colors. You know, it's seen in the silver, the blue. I've got a burgundy and I've got a I have a red. And I always want the gold. Mike Chioda, famous WWE official. He had a gold. Gold's great. Rivera is a great spot. Also wrestling fans flock towards it when they come to Japan.

But

Speaker 1

who's Goto?

Speaker 2

Goto wrestles for New Japan Pro Wrestling. No,

Speaker 1

I know. But like who is he to them?

Speaker 2

Oh, he's one of the Goto has been one of their top stars for quite some time. Is

Speaker 1

there a corollary you could make to an American?

Speaker 2

No, I don't think so, actually. Yeah, because- In

Speaker 1

terms of like the relationship he has with the audience and like what he means to them. Is he an undertaker-esque figure? Is he a Cena?

Speaker 2

No, and I feel like hardcore fans will get probably not like my, but there's two guys over there. I actually never wrestled directly one-on-one with Goto. I would have liked to wrestle him and another guy named Ishii. But one thing they do if-

But you

Speaker 1

wrestle Ishii's all the time in America.

Speaker 2

Okay, anyways, Japan wrestling is treated very sport heavy, very sport heavy. Sport first, they definitely have sports entertainment and they'd understand that, but it's very sport first. It's such a, it's a great place to wrestle. I was very thankful. That's Roxanne, she's one of the, you know, brightest and youngest in WWE at the moment.

She's got her jacket. When you go, you got to get your jacket, man. I mean,

Speaker 1

hell yeah, that is fire.

Speaker 2

If they don't give you the jacket. It's not a real, it's a, yeah, they don't give you the jacket. You're not

Speaker 1

getting invited to the couch with Carson, right?

Speaker 2

Yeah, if you don't get the jacket, it's,

Speaker 3

you gotta get your picture up there, standing on the top rope. Right, go

Speaker 2

to on the outside right there. Oh, wow. Who's this? This is just the greatest moments.

Speaker 1

Oh, that's amazing. La

Speaker 3

Sombra?

Speaker 1

This kind of feels like, Mexican, luchador. Yeah,

Speaker 3

there's Goto,

Speaker 2

yeah. Young Goto, but is this Hiroki Goto?

Speaker 3

Oh, this is Hiroki, my bad.

Speaker 2

No, it's Goto. Foot

Speaker 1

on weight

Speaker 3

to play Gihonda?

Speaker 2

How did, you were there the day, phenomenal, right? And really, game, like, Katau again going for,

Speaker 1

game specific,

Speaker 2

game specific, yeah.

Speaker 1

and there's been, like, clips of it from the, from the trailer that you see, but, like, Ryu and E. Honda's fight scene is fucking, is crazy. But

Speaker 2

did he have to put on weight, or he was already big?

Speaker 1

I mean, he's bigger than he is there, and then they also have to use, like, camera tricks to juxtapose size, because the E. Honda is, like, a mythical figure in terms of his, like, size and stature. So they'll use camera tricks, and then they maybe, maybe they put on a suit? I didn't see him in the suit, I just saw him in, like, a shirt.

Speaker 2

he, I'm, I'm hoping he's at the premiere. I, I feel like I gotta get the picture with him. I haven't seen that guy. You know who we haven't talked about? Who? Our boy. Go.

Speaker 3

Vigit, bro.

Speaker 2

How, yeah. How, how could we not? The goat. True monk.

Speaker 1

True Monk

Speaker 2

praying for us at that content event where the trailer was about to. It's

Speaker 3

amazing.

Speaker 2

Wasn't it?

Speaker 1

But he was just a fascinating guy.

Speaker 2

Gosh, he's something. Look at that hair.

Speaker 1

Like, first of all, one of the most handsome guys ever. His body's absolutely shredded. Like, you even lean right now, probably look like a dumpy, fat piece of shit compared to him. But, but, Thanks. But, like, just, like, we would just grab dinner or whatever and, like, just chat with him.

Speaker 2

What a

Speaker 1

fascinating fucking guy. Where did you guys, Jackie Chan. Where

Speaker 2

did you guys get into it? Was it, was proteins a myth? Where did you guys get into it? Oh, it was a

Speaker 1

new thing every day.

Speaker 2

Yeah, you were always asking bodies. I said, how do you

Speaker 1

maintain this muscles in your, you know, you have, like,

Speaker 2

he's

Speaker 1

like a vegan kind of, you know, no meat diet or whatever. And, he's like, yeah, protein's a myth. And I was like, sorry, say that again? I think everyone

Speaker 2

left the first time we met him, everyone left telling someone. I left and I called Brandy and I said, I think I met the most handsome man. That's ever been seen. And I even, you said to him when he came on for a little talky talky on the weekend, which was nice that we did those, and then we'd shoot during the week, but you even said, oh, you're just dressed like this.

This is it, your costume. Bro, when I

Speaker 1

first met him, this is embarrassing. And somebody else will tell this story in an even worse way. But when I first met him, he's like a fashiony guy.

Speaker 2

Oh, yeah.

Speaker 1

So he's wearing like clogs with like a bone at the, holding your foot in it, like a whole thing. And I was like, oh, this is how they're doing dulcim. They're doing like a fashion forward. That's not even close to how fashion he gets.

Speaker 2

Yeah.

Speaker 1

I was like, this is how they're doing. I was like, oh, you're incarcerated. At this point, I don't even know if he speaks English, to be completely honest. And he's a quiet guy until you open him up. So like, oh, yeah. Like, look at those shoes have like the Aladdin tips, right? So he just does anything. He's wearing a skirt. Anyway, the reason I thought it was Dawson is he had a necklace with skulls on it.

Speaker 2

Yeah.

Speaker 1

Didn't he give you that necklace? He

Speaker 2

did. He gave me that and he wrote a handwritten scroll and left it on my bus on my last day. Wow. And he gave two different shawls for, because my daughter was born while we were filming. Yeah. To me, just the kindest, nicest. And he is an actual, I'd say that it sounded like a joke, but he's a monk, correct? A practicing.

Speaker 1

The oldest form of martial art, according to him, Kalari Payat,

Speaker 2

starts

Speaker 1

in India. And he's like. Ten generations of his family has been practicing martial arts. He's also like the Jackie Chan of India. I admire him. So if you look up his stunt work, it's fucking unbelievable. I

Speaker 2

admired your approach to having conversations about India with him. Because as I've seen on the show, you like to get into it. Oh, hell yeah. You like to get into it. And here you are talking to the expert. And Schultz just wasn't relenting. And his, your take on going to India, performing in India. He kept,

Speaker 1

he's like, you have to come. Come to the show. Come to us, you must come.

Speaker 2

We got to

Speaker 1

do a little, are you guys doing anything out there?

Speaker 2

We always plan it. The last time they did something, they only did a live event. I think this was two years ago. And it's, Sina and Seth were in a tag match together. And I know both of them said it's one of the loudest crowds ever, that they'd ever been in front of in terms of energy. So going there would be amazing. His fighting style contrasted so nice.

With Orville. Orville, Orville, they, what a pair.

Speaker 1

So Orville Peck is a brilliantly talented musician. Nobody knows what he looks like cuz his whole career he's had a mask on. Yeah,

Speaker 2

Kayfabe.

Speaker 1

It is really Kayfabe.

Speaker 2

Yes, I, I, I have a picture of the night my daughter was born with you and him and I never put the picture out cuz he doesn't have his mask on. Oh, that's right. I couldn't do it. I couldn't, I couldn't, I couldn't bring Kayfabe. That's right.

Speaker 1

So, but like what I've always thought was cool about this is like most people in this business get into it so that, I don't say most, but a lot of people, they, they want to be famous, they want to be known, they want the love. And like he's intentionally Not allowed himself, despite his immense success, to be known for what he looks like.

At any point in time, you could take the mask off, and then when you walk down the street, you're absolutely mobbed. I'm sure they kind of clock him from tattoos and stuff now, but like...

Speaker 2

Also classic like Rey Mysterio, where he's very handsome under the... Oh, yeah. Like, he's not hiding anything. You're denying the world. Guile

Speaker 1

and him have some fun shit. He's

Speaker 3

Vega, right?

Speaker 1

He is. He is Vega.

Speaker 3

He

Speaker 2

fucking knocked it out. Yeah, a big casting on this was whenever I've seen any people questioning some of the casting choices, I'm thinking, man, if you had been on that set and seen how these fighting styles match up directly with the game itself and the more in the, you know, the 16-bit, 32-bit of fighting and how, oh, man, for everybody, then they amass.

Country tradition. What happened with me? Like everybody has like some type of fighting background or something and then there he is.

Speaker 1

I might be the only person with a real fight on my record.

Speaker 2

Yeah?

Speaker 3

Oh, that's a good point.

Speaker 2

No, I mean, I knew you were a boxer. All right, all right. I'll take it, I'll count

Speaker 1

that. That was a good point. I'll count that. No, Koji probably got a fight or two.

Speaker 2

He does. And you have, you have, I knew because I did my research on you, you had the paddle, you know, you were doing paddle. So the athleticism for that character was, was there. Hey, hey, Triple

Speaker 1

H, he wants to be a heel. What he's trying to do right now is come out of the closet or as a heel, okay? Just let him be who he truly is. It will be the greatest heel in the history of the sports. You

Speaker 2

did, you did have, you were, you were right there shoulder to shoulder with all the athletes on set doing athletic stuff. Are you

Speaker 1

an athlete? Do you, I don't know. I've been an athlete my whole life, but I do think you have a certain- What makes one an

Speaker 2

athlete?

Speaker 1

God, it's like, dang, man. What do you think? What makes one an athlete? Like,

Speaker 2

if you can do three crossroads in a row?

Speaker 1

I think an athlete- Thank you. I think athlete-wise, maybe the simplest way to check the box is did you play sports growing up? Oh,

Speaker 2

that's what you mean by an athlete.

Speaker 1

And did you carry on? You're a

Speaker 2

professional, though. You're a professional, but do you look at it as art? Do you look at it as theater? I just declared

Speaker 1

athlete as I did. Played sports growing up. Yeah, everybody has to

Speaker 2

play sports. What I'm saying is, do you see yourself as art, theater? Like, is someone who does ballet, for example, an athlete?

Speaker 1

Yes. I

Speaker 2

think they are.

Speaker 1

So there's a joke in wrestling that's now we don't say anymore because it's inaccurate, but the joke used to be if you had a black eye or a Hurt Achilles or something, you're hurt. Yeah. And one of the old timers would be like, hey, it ain't ballet, kid. And then you come to find out.

Speaker 2

Ballet's the toughest shit. Ballet is

Speaker 1

brutal. It's the

Speaker 2

toughest shit. Your body destroyed by the time you're 25. Yeah, we

Speaker 1

stopped using that way of looking at it, but no, I.

Speaker 3

Now you say like you're a paddle player?

Is that what you say? I'm looking

Speaker 2

at you because you fucking started this.

Speaker 1

What you did is you planted the seed. I didn't start it. You talked about paddle every day. Don't

Speaker 2

you buddy me.

Speaker 1

Every day. Don't

Speaker 2

you fucking. That dad me one more time, Cody. I swear to God.

Speaker 1

I swear to God. I paddle every day. Good

Speaker 3

buddy.

Speaker 1

Oh, man. How did

Speaker 3

you get cast? Like, did you have to audition? Did your agent just call you and say like, hey, you want to be a street fighter? No,

Speaker 1

show's got in the book. Yeah, outside the show. There was a person on set who gave me the thumbs up. I went to, it's very fun. I went to a meeting at Legendary and Katao was already in Australia and Cale was there and Jay was there and Mary.

Speaker 2

Wow, you met the big boss.

Speaker 1

I met the big boss. The big boss. They said, we're going to wait for her, and I'm not joking, when she like opened the door, like Pavarotti was playing behind her, just aura, and you could feel that. For

Speaker 3

the uninitiated, who's Mary?

Speaker 2

She's a head of legendary. She also got a crazy story, like, she's the reason,

she's the reason that, what's that Leo movie, The Revenant, she, she, she might be the reason why that movie got finished.

Speaker 1

Well, she, I don't

Speaker 2

want to put too much out, but she was brought in.

Speaker 1

Wonderful. And she's a, yeah, and she's, she's the real fucking

Speaker 2

deal, man. And

Speaker 1

she, she, she, she was real firm about it, and I didn't know, I was there, this is going to sound crazy, I was there for a general meeting. General meeting.

Speaker 2

Bullshit. Thank you.

Speaker 1

They knew.

Speaker 3

But you were like, yeah, maybe we could work together. Well, yeah, they can't bring

Speaker 2

you in like, hey, we're going to cast you for this movie. I

Speaker 1

was there for a general meeting, I thought, and I was very excited because they had legendaries making everything, right? So I'm just excited to be there. The

Speaker 2

legendaries, Dune, Minecraft, they did Digger, the Tom Cruise movie that will be coming out. And

Speaker 3

general meetings are like super base level. Like, yeah, let's get to know each other. You don't

Speaker 2

even know who's going to show up. But let me tell you something, Mary's not showing up for a general unless she thinks you're getting

Speaker 1

cast. She told me and then Cale took over. She said, we really like you for Guile. And that's one of the first things that was said. So I'm, you know, oh man, I grew up playing this game.

Love this. And oh my gosh, I'm already kind of in my head on this. We really love you for Guile. But it was nice. She was really direct in terms of We know WWE, that's what you do. I was WWE champion at the time. I think I was WWE champion. She said, just make sure these dates work. We can't mess with the dates at all. These guys need you for X amount.

And boom, left. So it was, and the next thing you know, we were talking as I was already guile. So I, I feel like I was in that meeting and I'll never forget it. I even asked the room to, hey, give me just a second here, cuz I needed a second. But after I left, it was one of those, you know, just classic pursuit of, you know, happiness, like just, just a moment of, oh my gosh, this is incredible.

And I hope he doesn't mind sharing, but a very, maybe the most famous wrestler ever in the history of our game. I don't want to drop his name cuz they always get clicked out when I drop his name. He called me and just said, good meeting, huh? So he knew.

Speaker 3

Wow. And I felt like

Speaker 1

I was the only one who didn't know. There's some

Speaker 3

legendary wrestlers that also acted in some capacity. Yeah,

Speaker 1

I mean, we could probably, you know, get there real quick. Yeah, yeah, yeah. But it, it blew my mind.

Speaker 2

Who are you thinking? If you had to think, who are you thinking?

Speaker 3

Might be Goto, might be. It might

Speaker 1

have been Goto. Did Goto

Speaker 3

call you? You would know.

Speaker 1

Goto would have been a great call. Kofi's son. Great call. I would have loved. You are a

Speaker 3

guyer.

Speaker 1

I don't know, I don't know how you're, yeah, 118 Honshu, though. I am 118, I can make that joke. I mean,

Speaker 2

Honshu technically, you know, Hong Kong, but whatever, it is what it is. I

Speaker 3

assume it's, it's The Rock, but I know you can't talk about it, you know. But that's who I would assume. But it was a great, it was great. One of the famous wrestlers of all time and actor. Oh

Speaker 2

shit, The Rock. It

Speaker 1

was great.

Speaker 2

It could be The fucking Rock. It

Speaker 1

was a great moment. Did he call

Speaker 2

you again recently by any chance for any other news?

Did you get another call from him?

Speaker 1

Hey, I, I did want to, I did want to bring this up because I, I think it's fresh news and we, we beat around it, but congratulations to you, buddy. Miami Vice, man. I really appreciate you.

Speaker 2

I really appreciate

Speaker 1

you. I

Speaker 2

don't

Speaker 3

want to be negative. I don't want to be negative, but your first time on a movie set, what is the worst part of making a movie?

Speaker 1

Worst part?

Speaker 3

Yeah.

Speaker 1

I, I mean, it's probably stereotypical to some of the stuff you hear, but lot, there is a lot of waiting around.

Speaker 3

Yeah, the catatime.

Speaker 2

Yeah, full makeup, full hair. Yeah,

Speaker 3

it's a heavy wig, too. You get spray

Speaker 2

painted every day. Because you got the tattoos.

Speaker 1

Yeah.

Speaker 2

And then just sitting around.

Speaker 3

Yeah.

Speaker 1

A lot of waiting around. And, Did they

Speaker 3

cover up this tat?

Speaker 1

Oh, yeah.

Speaker 3

I feel like it would fit,

Speaker 1

you know. They, they, yeah, that would. They covered it up, and then Guile has two tats, and I don't know if anyone spotted the, you know, the US, the Stars and Stripes on the one, the one bicep, but on the other one, take a look in the trailer. It's, it's a little deeper, you know. It's, it's nice, especially around that time period and the prototypical stealth planes we were making and things of that nature, but I liked it.

A little, little tattoo. When did you get that

Speaker 3

tat, by the way?

Speaker 1

it's been a minute. Gosh.

Speaker 3

Like, before wrestling?

Speaker 1

No, I got it mid-wrestling, and it was... Which one,

Speaker 2

neck?

Speaker 1

Neck, yeah. Why am I hearing

Speaker 2

recently you, like, regret getting this tattoo?

Speaker 1

I tell people... Because he's not a

Speaker 3

rapper.

Speaker 1

I tell people... So,

Speaker 2

I have a take on this, so I would curious your, your...

Speaker 1

No, no, give me your take.

Speaker 2

You go first.

Speaker 1

No, no, it's your house, man.

Speaker 2

No, but you're the guest.

Speaker 1

Thank you. My, I tell people...

Speaker 2

Yeah.

Speaker 1

I like the art, and the logo has been incredibly prolific for me because it became a brand in the wrestling space for me. It's everywhere. People get the tattoos now. People get derivative versions of the tattoo, their own form of the skull, all this great stuff. But the size of the tattoo was always jarring to me. I still can't make it out there what's on the arm.

Speaker 2

I don't know if it's this one. Is it? Is this the chicken? It's that arm.

Speaker 3

Oh,

Speaker 2

that's the arm.

Speaker 1

That's what it was. When I got it and saw it in the mirror, I knew, oh my gosh, it's almost technically a face tat because it was in my jaw. It was up there. So the size. We even sell temporary tattoos at WWE, and they're little. And kids just put them right on their neck. They're little. So

Speaker 2

here's my take on it. I

Speaker 1

should have known. Yeah, so you're going

Speaker 3

to upset a lot of

Speaker 1

parents there. I'm about to change, not change the logo, because we can't change the tattoo, but for the first time ever, the way the American Nightmare, exactly this logo, which is on everything we do, I'm It's going to be a wolf skull that's turned with the wings out to the side because I just lost my husky pharaoh after almost 16 years and I thought I'm going to give him a little a run and let's see that logo and just turn it side profile husky wolf dire wolf type looking thing see what they come up with but it should be pretty cool.

Speaker 2

Okay. That's sad.

Speaker 1

Yeah, did I bring it down?

Speaker 2

No, you didn't bring it down. We have to be real obviously. What I like about the tattoo.

Speaker 1

Okay.

Speaker 2

It made you pot committed. So I remember the first time seeing you, even if I saw you like in a suit or hosting some game show or some shit, this is before I knew who you were. You were like hosting some game show. Go Big

Speaker 1

Show with Bert.

Speaker 2

Yeah, and it was like I saw the necktie and I was like, oh, he's not using this. As a stepping stone to something else.

Speaker 1

Yeah.

Speaker 2

He fucking is this.

Speaker 1

Oh man.

Speaker 2

And I didn't know anything. I mean, I'm remember I'm a casual wrestler. If I know anything about wrestling, I've either asked you, Sam Roberts, Santi or Sancho or Chris Van Vliet.

Speaker 1

CBB.

Speaker 2

These are the people, if I know, if anything I say in wrestling has come from one of those four sources. But I remember just seeing you and be like, oh, he's not like pretty boy, like bleach blonde hair trying to do something else. Like he has committed himself to wrestling.

Speaker 1

Yeah.

Speaker 2

So I actually think that the size works.

Speaker 1

Hey, it's, it's been great for me in the wrestling space. Yeah. For sure it is. But I, I just, the size was always the part that was a bit jarring. But to, to your point, I've done this since I was 15.

Speaker 2

Yeah.

Speaker 1

And I think a-after 30, There are plenty of wrestlers, and you mentioned this, some people just want to be famous, some people want the love. Not knocking any of that. Nobody

Speaker 2

using it for a stepping stone would get that big a tattoo on their neck.

Speaker 1

I wanted it to be something that was synonymous and something that was shared amongst. I was in this space where I didn't really want to wear anyone else's brand. I wanted to try and become my own. And, you know, ambition in certain circles is heavily encouraged, and then in other places in wrestling, you know, they don't want you to. But I always was a go big, you know, shoot for the moon, and then we went big.

And I don't know if I've told you this, but Rock famous for the Brahma Bull on his arm, and now it's all covered with the Brahma Bull. And Conor McGregor at the time, who was doing so well box office for UFC, had the big lion on his chest. So I felt it was either going to be spine or neck, and I went neck just to try and compete in that box office.

Type space, and it was, I did it the day before I wrestled, so people couldn't fathom that it was even real. One day I had it, the next day a full match, and there's this giant, you know, it's, you know. I'm

Speaker 2

pot committed. That's what I saw.

Speaker 1

How could you not be?

Speaker 2

Before I ever saw you wrestle, I think I saw it.

Speaker 1

Pro wrestling and sports entertainment is such a great business, and you're saying pot committed?

Speaker 2

Yeah.

Speaker 1

Like, how could you, like, right now, ESPN, Netflix, we only want committed.

Speaker 2

But this is before that. You're doing this before these huge deals are made. Let's be honest.

Speaker 1

Yeah, but I had always thought, in my mind, I'd always hoped and thought wrestling was heading for the greatest. It goes in ups and downs. You know, the late 90s, it's Culturally, pop culture is so relevant with the attitude era, but the attitude era does not necessarily last so long. It's super, super hot versus it goes like this, goes like this.

And lately, and we even talked about that time with Sammy and the bloodline, everything that they were doing, it went up and it stayed. It stayed. When we heard these earnings reports from TKO recently, and there we are, like the lead dog. I'm not trying to, you know, pat us on the back. It's really permeating everywhere, especially with young audiences, which is great.

All right, guys, before we get back in, look, three weeks of football have transpired, Alex.

Speaker 3

Yep.

Speaker 2

obviously, we have no clue what's going to happen this season. Football's very... You do.

Speaker 1

Come on. Well,

Speaker 2

talk to me.

Speaker 1

It's New York all day.

Speaker 2

Okay.

Speaker 1

Giants, we just lost our quarterback.

Speaker 2

Okay.

Speaker 1

I believe in the backup.

Speaker 2

You believe in Jamis?

Speaker 1

If that's his name, I believe in him.

Speaker 2

Okay.

Speaker 1

Yes.

Speaker 2

What are the Giants out on couchy right now?

Speaker 1

I think...

Speaker 2

There's not even a bet available for them to win the Super Bowl. Shit, let's

Speaker 1

go. That's the place we love to be in.

Speaker 2

Hold on, hold on. There's not even a trade available for them to win the Super Bowl.

Speaker 1

That's the place we love to be in.

Speaker 2

So you, you want to be in this position, most upside. Did

Speaker 1

they ever think the Knicks would win a championship?

Speaker 2

We did.

Speaker 1

Exactly. We

Speaker 2

believed.

Speaker 1

Giants.

Speaker 2

So you going Giants over Jets?

Speaker 1

I'm long on Giants. Wow.

Speaker 2

And they're, like literally you can't even trade on them right now. Is that what I'm seeing? You can, but nobody's even accepting it? Why is it negative one percent? Oh, they don't share negative percentages?

Wow. Okay.

Speaker 3

So that's the most upside. Damn. The most upside. We got this.

Speaker 2

All right, so let's

Speaker 3

do

Speaker 2

it. Listen, I, you know, I'm undefeated on couchy, so I'm not going to put my money where my mouth is right now on the Giants, but I like that world. I like that world where Jameis carries them, and then maybe Jackson comes back into the regular season.

Speaker 3

And if it's not Giants, is Buffalo still New York? We'll take it.

Speaker 2

Where's Buffalo at? All right, so New York.

Speaker 3

New York.

Speaker 2

New York.

Speaker 3

New York.

Speaker 2

New York.

Speaker 3

Okay.

Speaker 2

Let's get back to the show.

Speaker 5

It's me, the. We don't need the jingle twice.

Stop it. This is about vacation inflation and how Priceline negotiates amazing deals on hotels, flights, and rental cars.

Yeah, but I didn't mention that you can save up to 60% off hotels in the Priceline app.

Fine. No one deals more deals than. Please stop. Touché. Price line.

Speaker 3

What did you do in the downtime? Were you playing video games?

Speaker 2

So yeah, these fucking smoke cigars, play video games.

Speaker 1

On the little trailer park we had, I thought more people would come by and play with me, but I had the classic collection cuz you gotta, to get all the characters in the movie, I needed the full classic collection, which, you know, not just two, not just Turbo, not just World Warriors, you need Alpha. If you're gonna get Dan, his character, you need Alpha.

And then you skip to six, which just came out, and we had the director of six on the set, the shepherd of the franchise right now. And he came and played with me. Did you play him? I did. Did you beat him? No.

Speaker 2

I beat him.

Speaker 1

No, you did not. I did beat

Speaker 2

him, I have it on video.

Speaker 1

On the cabinet or in Modern Six?

Speaker 2

Where it's supposed to be played?

Speaker 1

On the cabinet.

Speaker 2

Yes.

Speaker 1

Okay, backstage. With Dan. As Dan.

Speaker 2

And he was playing super light cuz he thought he was gonna work me cuz I'm Dan.

Speaker 1

Yeah.

Speaker 2

I lured him into my trap.

Speaker 1

And you did it. Honey pot.

Speaker 2

Honey pot.

Speaker 1

Yes.

Speaker 2

I got a lot of honey in here.

Speaker 1

Okay, so. When he played me, he was not kind.

Speaker 2

Yeah, because he probably just finished, you know. He

Speaker 1

shredded me. Yeah. Almost just barely got anything in. Definitely, all I was trying to do was get, they were shooting some BTS too, so I was trying to get a Sonic Boom in. Did you play as Guile? Yes. Yeah, but as a kid, I played as Ryu a lot because he's the most neutral character. Ken and Ryu, you get to learn, but as I got older, I loved Guile.

I very much. Did

Speaker 2

you see what he just did? The way that he insults through kindness is unbelievable. I

Speaker 1

didn't catch that. Yeah, I

Speaker 2

play with Ryu cuz he's the most like neutral character. And then, and then he elevates his character. No, Guile is a character that's thick up in play. You don't even realize you're doing it, heel.

Speaker 1

Okay.

Speaker 3

I mean, would you ever play as Dan? Like the Dan character is really hard to play with.

Speaker 1

Dan character is very hard to play with. And notoriously, the gaming community as Dan is the joke character.

Speaker 3

Right. It says on Wikipedia, his stance is a weak character and it's emphasized in Turbo, where Dan's a hidden character that's extremely easy to beat cuz he only drops red counter gems.

Speaker 2

Okay. Well, from Wikipedia. I'm just reading what we got. Obviously, you're giving

Speaker 1

us the technical specs here and that's. Which I think

Speaker 3

is helpful for the game.

Speaker 1

Guile, the only thing with Guile is as you get, it's a little bit better for an older kid, I'd say, because Guile, you have to hold the buttons down, the inputs down for a second. Versus Ryu in the neutralness of it all, you just put the combos together. Kept using that

Speaker 2

word.

Speaker 1

You got a hotdo, you know. You

Speaker 2

kept using that word, neutral.

Speaker 1

Meaning he is the first. You pick up and play and everyone can play with it.

Speaker 2

Are you trying to say easiest? Is that what you're trying to say?

Speaker 1

Let me correct myself, balanced.

Speaker 2

The most

Speaker 1

balanced character. I don't want you to correct yourself when you're being a piece of shit. I think it was a heel thing for me to say neutral when I should have said balanced.

Speaker 2

Balance is another, like who wants to be balanced? Like I'm such a balanced individual. Hey, should we hang out with Tom? He's so balanced. We're talking about the

Speaker 1

characters in the game. Just the game. Yeah, we're just talking about a video. We're not talking about anyone who's balanced and neutral. You're taking it so personal. Yeah, you're taking it personal. That the Dan character is like a weaker player. I'm glad you won in yours, though. That's great. I did not. I did not win in mine. Kudos to you.

He dog walked me twice for the BTS people and everything. I know. All right, well. There we go. We got that on camera. Yeah.

Speaker 3

And the guy characters are really good.

Speaker 2

Shut up.

Speaker 3

I'm saying in the game. It's like video games. Did you

Speaker 1

ever watch the animated series or the anime?

Speaker 2

Before we do that and go to the anime, can you go to Do you watch any of these guys that play Street Fighter, the video game? Have you watched any of the game stuff? Can you go to Evo 37? Street Fighter, EVO 37. Oh, he's like the

Speaker 1

pros. I don't know if you know, like Maximilian and Kenny and all, there's so many guys who are very deep into this gaming community.

Speaker 2

Oh.

Speaker 1

Frame rate, they cover, they're playing on a different level than just pick and play.

Speaker 2

Hey, bro, you don't got to try to one-up me with my knowledge. Did I jump in? Did I jump in? Oh, yeah. I was just trying to throw out EVO 37. You know what? Tell me about EVO. Tell me about

Speaker 1

EVO. I got it. What's EVO? What a heel

Speaker 2

thing to do, right? I know more about the gaming community than you do. I

Speaker 1

just said you know some of these guys. I think they're going to be at the provider. What's this

Speaker 2

one? If you just want to see real athletes. Okay.

Oh, boy. And.

Speaker 1

This is EVO 37.

Speaker 2

Yeah. Don't you do it. Don't you do it. You're doing it again.

Uh-oh. Block, block, block, and not just block, counter each one.

Speaker 3

Listen to the pop.

Speaker 2

Yeah, that's a big one.

Speaker 1

Oh, wow. So

Speaker 2

it's not just a block, I think it's a parry as well. So you're not just blocking, you're doing a move into it.

That might be the greatest thing that's ever happened online for Street Fighter outside of this movie coming out.

Speaker 1

You're going to see, I feel like some of these guys, and not trying to take your story here, some of the guys who have competed at EVO at the premiere, you might see them in the movie as well. Yeah, you might see them in the movie.

Speaker 2

Yeah. Oh, the effort, you know, the

Speaker 1

effort to do right by the gaming community was, was definitely there. And even in the trailer, the little scene with the trash can being thrown is the scroll up the building in the original open to Street Fighter. Yeah, yeah, yeah.

Speaker 2

They went for it,

Speaker 1

man.

Speaker 2

Yeah. Yeah.

Speaker 3

Was any of the original Street Fighter gaming team there? You mentioned like the shepherd of the franchise, but like were the game developers or anyone else involved in the creation of

Speaker 1

the game? Man, Capcom pulled up. So yeah.

Speaker 2

They pulled up.

Speaker 1

Yeah. I would say so. With

Speaker 2

translators and everything.

Speaker 3

Like full on Japanese.

Speaker 2

Yeah.

Speaker 1

And they were having a good time.

Speaker 2

Oh, yeah. They're in, the director, the guy you played is in it.

Speaker 1

Yeah. The little cameo. He

Speaker 2

got a little cameo. With Katao, I think.

Speaker 1

Yeah, Katao's in there. Spoilers on this part of the day. Sorry. Sorry. I mean, it's cool with you, though, because Hey, producer. So, can you call the

Speaker 3

producer and see if it's okay if we do it? Let's

Speaker 2

call, let's call Cale.

Speaker 3

I was hoping you were going to call. We were talking about

Speaker 1

this with Cale the other day. Cale is a, he's a cold FaceTimer.

Speaker 2

Oh, you don't do that?

Speaker 1

No, I,

Speaker 3

oh, the cold FaceTimer. Are you

Speaker 1

kidding? Oh, no. How can you do that to somebody? That's crazy. That's

Speaker 3

very intimate. That's

Speaker 2

the only thing I do. I'll

Speaker 3

cold FaceTime my wife.

Speaker 1

That's the one you're, that's the one. You're allowed. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Cold FaceTime.

Speaker 2

But wait, why would you not cold FaceTime?

Speaker 1

You're doing it right. I, I just think that's really aggressive. Yeah,

Speaker 2

he's going to be

Speaker 1

in a bath right now.

Speaker 2

I think he's in London right now. Oh

Speaker 1

my gosh, he's there. Hey! How are you?

Speaker 2

Hey, guys, is it true that we're all over double-decker buses in London?

Oh, that's so cool. hey guys, Cody's announced that he's, he's become a heel on this podcast. He didn't, I haven't announced

Speaker 1

anything.

Speaker 2

He's announced it.

Speaker 1

No, no news has come from the pod other than Schultz has an Achilles injury from paddle. Whoa, whoa, whoa,

Speaker 2

okay, that's where you're

Speaker 1

going, that's where you're going. Okay,

Speaker 2

yeah, yeah, yeah. Yeah, he's just announcing things left and right, this guy over here.

Speaker 1

No.

Speaker 2

Left and right, just announcing things. No,

Speaker 1

I've been nothing but balanced. Nothing but balanced. Okay, listen, we love you guys, man. Just wanted to check in. Bye. Dang, man, cold FaceTime, you just joined the club, man.

Speaker 2

The cold FaceTime is the best way to connect because a FaceTime feels important.

Speaker 1

FaceTime feels important. Cold FaceTime.

Speaker 2

Yeah, but if you cold FaceTime, it's a guaranteed, oh shit, something's happening, I gotta answer this.

Speaker 1

Also, if a guy picks up on a cold FaceTime, that's... That's a real one, right?

Speaker 2

What do you mean?

Speaker 1

If you're picking up on a cold FaceTime for somebody, no matter what you're going through, you got to be a real one.

Speaker 2

I had a wet dream last night.

Speaker 1

Okay. What is going on? No, no, I did.

Speaker 2

You do? That's like a cold FaceTime.

Speaker 1

How? Walk me through that.

Speaker 2

Man, it was.

Speaker 3

Wait, like you're in the dream and someone just showed

Speaker 1

up. I had a weird wrestling dream last night. Wait, you had a wrestling dream? I always have wrestling dreams, and I had a really weird one last night. Can I guess? Yeah, go ahead.

Speaker 2

Liv Morgan and Rhea Ripley. No,

Speaker 1

it wasn't a, it wasn't that type of dream. Oh, oh,

Speaker 2

oh, got it, got it, got it. Oh, got it, got it, got it. It wasn't a, it wasn't a wet dream at all.

Speaker 1

It was a wrestling dream. Yeah, a wrestling dream. I was

Speaker 2

wrestling. We're

Speaker 3

all wrestling. Yeah, they want to meet you exclusively. Yes.

Speaker 1

It was a classic. It's actually, these happen a lot. Usually you don't have your boots tied and your music's playing. It's one of those, but this one was, I was backstage talking to the guy that I was wrestling and then randomly the match before me, which was a CM Punk match of all matches, they announced cold to the audience and I was unaware of this, that they now had a street fight, which the rest of the dream part of me was like, oh man, now we got to follow a street fight.

It's a very strange wrestling. What does that mean a street fight? Basically it meant, oh, they're going to have all the toys, all the bells and whistles. It's a very odd dream to have, but the fact that I still dream about wrestling scenarios and things like that, where you're like, oh, now what are we doing? I woke up thinking, dang, man, they're going to have a better match than us, which was completely, it's not a real scenario.

Is

Speaker 2

there anything you still want to accomplish?

Speaker 1

In the wrestling space?

Speaker 2

Yeah. What have you not done?

Speaker 1

Oh, I, I haven't won money in the bank, and I, potentially Friday could get my bid into money in the bank, so that's in New Orleans. Roman versus LA Knight, it's a big match as well, plus the money in the banks. I haven't won money in the bank, and I think the other, only other title on the board for WWE is the United States title, which I don't think will probably ever happen in my career, but those are things.

I think the things that haven't been done, not to sound grand or vague or both, are things we haven't seen coming yet.

Speaker 2

All right, there's this cool thing I, in, in wrestling that I, again, total casual, Sam Roberts. Real

Speaker 1

cash.

Speaker 2

Santi, listen, Sam Ross, Santi and, and Sancho, and Chris CVV.

Speaker 1

CVV. Have you had him on the pod?

Speaker 2

No, but we should talk. Yeah,

Speaker 1

you'd like him.

Speaker 2

All those guys. but I've, I've seen a cool thing as a casual in wrestling where Guys who are older feel responsibility to put on the next generation, even though these guys are not invested in the mother company, right? Like maybe some guys are and they go on to work for it, but like they're not necessarily like shareholders. No. They're shareholders of wrestling as an idea.

Speaker 1

Yeah.

Speaker 2

And like, obviously we've heard stories of like wrestlers who maybe didn't want to do it, but there are a lot of wrestlers who have really been generous with it.

Speaker 1

Oh my gosh.

Speaker 2

And so I have two questions. One is like, why is that? Why is there this, it's really benevolent. It's like recognizing you're kind of like at the end of your run. And instead of just going out in a blaze of glory, it's so funny that you're in security speaking right now. I wasn't going to point at that at all. I wasn't.

Speaker 1

No,

Speaker 2

no, but like. I saw it with like, again, I'm on the outside, so like Grok and Oba. Like it seemed like Grok was like really trying to put him over. It was like beautiful. You saw it with John, like it was like really trying to put guys over.

Speaker 1

So what you'll probably see is it's an area where we're more like sports than we realize because for an outside person to come in and look, they would probably wonder why do you care about what they do in match one? Why do you care if they stay to watch the dark match? Why do you care to give them a note on how to approach this personal appearance that you're Because like you said, nobody, I don't run the company.

I'm not a shareholder in the company. It's always been that way. The locker room. When I said I was a little siloed up, that's the part that I miss a bit is being able to say, hey, maybe my two cents, do this. My two cents, think of it this way. It's always been that way. There's no answer, but it's a lot like when you see a veteran quarterback guiding along that, that, that draft pick.

Your

Speaker 2

backup that doesn't have ego about it goes, I'm going to be, yeah.

Speaker 1

Right, it's, it's in, one of the things I learned late in wrestling is it's far more fair than you realize, even for show business. If you work the hardest, and, and John was the one who taught everybody this, yeah, you're going to be in the main spot. You're going to be the boss's favorite. You're going to be on all the, you know, posters and all the assets, and you're going to be the hood ornament for the company.

Not just because you were picked, because you picked yourself as well, and you did all the hard work. So when you find people like that, cuz right now we've got a wonderful top shelf at WWE, wonderful. And I, I went on The Breakfast Club and they asked me, is it a little old? Is the way they said it, and I tried to be like, well, it's, you know, seasoned, it's experienced.

But to that, the efforts have now been made to let's find who's next. But it isn't, you can't do it overnight. It's wrestling takes, and fans don't love this, and I'm not trying to, to me fans are never wrong, but for someone to be truly over, over, not just get a pop, not just get a reaction, for truly be over where they can't go out of their house with somebody and be like, hey, you're such and such, hey, and want to be them and want to touch them and want to know them, it takes time.

You've got to be in front of the audience all the time. You've got to be hitting your finish. You have to be doing the things that Grok was explaining to me.

You have to do them every, it's a very strange thing. And the only person I'd say that really I think set it in stone, there's two people that at WWE have set it in stone where that has to be you help somebody out. Like I have a guy who I, the office didn't come to me. And I said, I'm going to keep an eye on him. I'm going to, I'm going to keep an eye because I think that could be.

Speaker 2

You have that now you're saying? I

Speaker 1

have that now. I think that could be a WrestleMania opponent. Who's that?

I don't want to say because if it turns out to be a WrestleMania match. Oh, this is like in real time. Now we're just breaking all the rules. But Triple H and The Undertaker, who are both in positions of creative leadership now, were really big on making the attempts. And not just once, more than once, because when you're young, it's like, yeah.

You do love it. You do. You have the bug for it, but also you're, it's not, I don't know, maybe you don't live and breathe by it yet. Maybe it's like the bug gets you and then another bug gets you when you pass 30. And the next thing you know, all you think about is this and trying to get as many people there to be part of this performance.

But they were very big on every match. Well, you could have tried this, could have tried this, and not just learn from what you do, they would pull you aside and talk to you. That's still WWE, and I'd love to mention him because Seth is the biggest one who does that now. I watch, but I watch kind of as we go. There it is, I saw something I might mention to him later.

Seth sits in front of the monitor for everything, everything, which is crazy because then he goes out and performs at a high level himself, which to me is, it's a lot. It's a lot of bandwidth in one day. I don't know if I have that bandwidth, and Seth is phenomenal at identifying young talent, and he'll try. That's the big thing, try once, try twice, hell, even try three times.

After a while, if they're not going to get it or if they're not interested, then you can move on. But wrestling big on, you know, especially when they're young, because look at the young right now at WWE, Boba you mentioned, Braun, Braun, Braun, souls, Trick Williams, like there's so much, so much. Frick youth. And it's, it's, and that's going to be the next generation.

And they have to grow up with the audience for a woman to hit. Dom, you need to get Dom on here. Yeah,

Speaker 2

Dom is fire, bro.

Speaker 1

Dom to me, I make this joke all the time, that Dom is the locker room leader. I make that joke about him and Solo Soko all the time, but I make it because they really are, they may not be the guys marching orders and saying they pick up the locker room or hey, don't do that. But Dom and Solo are in the locker room. Yeah. They, they're feeling it.

They, they, they have a kinship with everyone. And they're just, Jacob's phenomenal. Jacob's phenomenal, man. And I've known him. I did an indie show, All Pro Wrestling in NorCal, and Jacob was backstage at those shows. This is back

Speaker 2

in the day.

Speaker 1

Yeah, and Jacob's, Jacob's had a heck of a road to get to the spot. Okay, so let me, so then, so

Speaker 2

then let me ask you this, as a complete casual.

Speaker 1

And I, if I didn't name a bunch of young people, I apologize. I know, this is the tricky thing

Speaker 2

where, where it's like,

Speaker 1

Why didn't you name me, blah, blah, blah. But okay, so we're at a point where we have guys that are in like, let's say like the back half of their prime, right? Carrying WWE.

CM Punk.

Speaker 2

Yeah, okay.

Speaker 1

You don't think so?

Speaker 2

Well, the way you're wording it, you're doing to me, you're loading it.

Speaker 1

Is that bad to say that? I

Speaker 2

don't know. I think

Speaker 1

prime,

Speaker 2

half. Let's just say they're in their prime. I don't love that back half you threw in there. I've been around you for two hours and I'm

Speaker 1

already a scumbag. This is what happens when I, don't do it. All right, all

Speaker 2

right.

Speaker 1

So, but we have guys that are in, in their prime.

Speaker 2

Yeah, hell yeah.

Speaker 1

Okay, you're in your prime.

Speaker 2

I would say so, yeah.

Speaker 1

Definitely not the back half, but not the front

Speaker 2

half.

Speaker 1

You're lean, so it looks like there might be other things. So just

Speaker 2

in the prime. Why

Speaker 1

don't we say the middle of their prime?

Speaker 2

Sounds great, we're in the middle right. That's so much better, the

Speaker 1

middle right of their prime.

Speaker 2

Okay, I heard it all, go ahead. Yeah,

Speaker 1

so just like a little bit more than their prime, but also in their prime. So,

Speaker 2

okay, yeah.

Speaker 1

What do you, how do you like your steak?

Speaker 2

Medium.

Speaker 1

Medium, oh, you like a medium.

Speaker 2

I'm a medium guy, yeah. You

Speaker 1

don't go medium rare. Were you the

Speaker 2

first guy I ever heard order medium plus? No, it's

Speaker 1

medium rare plus. Because

Speaker 2

people who order the plus, I, I don't know this guy. I don't know about plus. Well, I would

Speaker 1

say you're medium plus.

Speaker 2

Okay, I'm medium plus on the steak. Where is this going?

Speaker 1

The point that I'm trying to make is, you have all these guys that are, let's say, in their prime. You, Rollins, Roman.

CM Punk, who else? Who are, who are the, the guys that we are so familiar with, we've been familiar with for a decade, carrying this industry? Becky

Speaker 2

Lynch, Charlotte Flair, I mean, we, so Miz is, Miz is out there, look, teaching the next generation. But you, you mentioned Roman, you mentioned Seth, Punk, those are, you know, three great, it's a lot of great faces.

Speaker 1

Okay, amazing people carrying the industry.

At a certain point in time, in our lifetime, we're gonna see guys getting put over.

Speaker 2

Like,

Speaker 1

I remember, and again, I don't know much, but I remember, like, being younger, watching, like, a Triple H, for example, and maybe he was just so famous young, so by the time he's in his prime, like, I remember seeing, like, lose WrestleManias.

Speaker 2

Oh, yeah.

Speaker 1

And it's like, this is one of the biggest guys in the biz losing at WrestleMania. To me, what I see that is like an investment in the next generation. Is that a fair assessment of it? Sure.

Speaker 2

So often that, I mean, you're saying putting over, and often that means laying on your back for that next person. And, you know, the better ways, and as you grow and you're not really a casual guy, you know a lot of the terms, the best way I'd say is when there's a difference between doing the job, putting somebody over, and doing the honors.

Speaker 1

what's the honors? Doing

Speaker 2

the honors is just when you really are doing everything you can to say it's yours.

Speaker 1

Who's done it the best?

Speaker 2

Doing the honors. Who

Speaker 1

are the guys that have done it the best?

Speaker 2

doing the honors. I

Speaker 1

mean, John, obviously.

Speaker 2

I think John probably will go down because he spent an entire year doing the honors. He didn't just pick one.

Speaker 1

Yeah.

Speaker 2

He took a bet on a few, you know. He, he, he, he definitely did more than just doing the favor. It was, he, he did the honors, and that's, that's the way you want to do it. Okay, who

Speaker 1

else?

Speaker 2

Wow, man, I mean, you mentioned Triple H. Triple H is a great example. Gosh, probably all your faves, The Undertaker. Taker, probably. Great, you know, like, you know, and sometimes there's a selfishness to it as well because you go so long until it's time.

Speaker 1

Are there guys that, like, we've heard stories about, like, Hogan or whatever, are there guys that didn't want to let go?

Speaker 2

I'd say 99.9% of wrestlers perhaps don't want to let go, and it's when you have...

Speaker 1

You maintain that the Bret Hart thing was the business. I'm not going

Speaker 2

to get into wrestling with shadows with you, but you know what? I'm not. I'm not. This is

Speaker 1

just... I'm not. It's the only thing even off camera that you maintain is the business.

Speaker 2

I mean, there was a camera crew backstage, but okay, anyways.

Speaker 1

No, when we were completely by ourselves, you'd be like, yeah, it was the business, man.

Speaker 2

Right, right. Well, Sean is uniquely the king of, and he's one of the reasons he was one of my favorite wrestlers growing up, uniquely king of saying, okay, they might think this whole show is... Fictional, but what I do tonight won't be. And there are two prime examples that both of these examples, and I won't say which people are like, oh, that match fell apart.

That was, they, that, they're really hot at each other. Oh no. And both of them to me, and I'm not, he, he's the master, so I don't know. I don't know if I'm right at all. So you're saying

Speaker 1

you were falling victim to the stage play. I don't know if I'm right at all, but I

Speaker 2

know both of those to me, I think, And also I had the little bit of inkling of a nudge from my dad too, like, I don't know. Really? Seems like they used what was there. You know, now we use social media, now we use, you always use what's there. What's the thoughts, what's, what are they saying in the garden? Garden used to be the example of an arena that chattered because they- What does that mean? They were the epicenter of WWE, WWF, WWF.

So if there was something up, they would have known the curtain call when that happens, they knew that Scott Hall and Kevin Nash were leaving. So they responded. That's why there's a big reaction when they all hug at the end of the night. They knew Goldberg and Lesnar when they were about to leave, and there's Austin, so they treated that match as such with how they reacted.

The same way you use your tools then, you use your tools now. So I just think Shawn is the greatest example of, oh, they'll think what I did is real. Screw everything else. They'll think what I did is real. And to this day, there's two examples of, oh, no, but that was a shoot, brother.

Or was it just Do we even need to know? Was it just magic? Was it just magic? And

Speaker 1

maybe we want to believe the magic.

Speaker 2

Oh, I just told you about Haku in that moment. Maybe I'm just the prime candidate, the prime mark to believe the magic.

Speaker 1

Have you ever explained a magic trick to someone?

Speaker 2

No.

Speaker 1

Like whenever you show somebody how a magic trick is done, the greatest disappointment rests on their face. Oh

Speaker 2

my gosh, yeah.

Speaker 1

And it's like we want to believe it's magic. At our core, we want to know the truth. But more than the truth, we actually want to believe it's magic, because believing in something is more exciting than kind of knowing a boring truth.

Speaker 2

Sure. I like, but here's Sean. Sean explains you the magic trick and then does a different trick. That's what Sean Michael. Sean Michael. Sean Michael, oh, here's the magic trick. Oh, what? Something else happens. That, I think he's probably. Is he

Speaker 1

the greatest showman of it?

Speaker 2

I mean, it's so hard. I think the last time when I came on here, I didn't know you well enough, and I may have fell into the trap of answering the Mount Rushmore, right? But I can tell you, Sean is one of one in what he did. Hogan is one of one in what he did. It's very hard to classify who was the greatest because it's different barometers.

You can get a real cut and dry. Most wrestlers are going to cut and dry who sold the most tickets.

That's not the answer fans want. That's the one they get mad at when Fightful clips it or-

Speaker 1

But this is also like with comedians. It's like there's who sells the most tickets, but then there's also like who believes it the most.

Speaker 2

Right. And

Speaker 1

I don't- This is

Speaker 2

Shawn Michaels of comedy.

Speaker 1

I mean, we asked the- What did you ask?

Speaker 2

This is like a few months ago. This is something

Speaker 1

Mark brought up to me. And they were like, they found comedy equivalents for people.

Speaker 2

Yeah.

Speaker 1

And they, what was it, chat?

Speaker 2

Yeah, it's hard to chat GPT about it.

Speaker 1

Yeah, so chat said I was. And I was super excited about that. Full

Speaker 2

stop. Yeah. Chat GPT said you were the Sean Michael. They're

Speaker 1

basically like, who is the comedic equivalent of- I have it

Speaker 3

here from when I pulled it up. This is, we did this in May.

Speaker 2

Who are you talking to?

Speaker 3

I said, if every famous comedian was a wrestler, who would they be? And it gave us some great ones. It said Shane Gillis, it's Stone Cold Steve Austin.

Speaker 1

But you see that?

Speaker 3

I see it.

Speaker 1

Totally.

Speaker 3

Like blood by dudes, like wandered into fame by accident is how it seems, but secretly one of the best in the business.

Speaker 1

Amazing. Phenomenal.

Speaker 2

Can I say something about Shane that I need to get off my chest?

Speaker 1

Please.

Speaker 2

I am a huge fan of Shane, as you know, because I was watching Tires with my T-Rex glass, all excited, right? I love Shane, but when I went to do Shane's podcast, it almost feels like it's a trap.

The production on that podcast for a guy who is printing money and who is exceptional at everything. He had me sitting on a couch that I sunk into and he's got the good chair and it's wired mics. What are we doing? It's 20, yeah, I thought he was trapped. I thought he was-

Speaker 1

Maintain the kayfabe, bro.

Speaker 2

I'm trying to, yeah. I mean, it was such an honor to be on the show and I met his roommate who he made me go in his room in the middle of the day, which was an incredible experience in itself. Who,

Speaker 3

Lemaire?

Speaker 2

Lemaire,

Speaker 1

yeah.

Speaker 2

Lemaire's my boy. Lemaire's my boy. We went into

Speaker 3

his room, what do you mean?

Speaker 2

He was like, go surprise Lemaire. And I went- Lemaire's a massive wrestler. Yeah, Lemaire was the wrestling expert that day and he was playing his, I mean, it was a roach in the ashtray, there's clothes everywhere, open laptop on the bed.

Speaker 1

You know, why would that be?

Speaker 2

No, I mean, you know, like a lot going on for me just to bust like in on your buddy here, but I love my experience, but I laughed when I walked out of there thinking, man, all great this guy's doing, and he wired mics, and he had me sinking in that couch. It almost felt like I was meant to say, hey, can I get another chair? It felt like a trap.

Maybe that's

Speaker 1

also his fire about it.

Speaker 3

That's the magic. He keeps it the exact shape on his arm. Shane Stone Cold Steve

Speaker 2

Austin, though.

Speaker 3

But

Speaker 1

how would Stone Cold do it? Would Stone Cold have like crazy fancy studio, whatever? Would you be on his ranch on a horse?

Speaker 2

Have you been on the Broken Skull Sessions?

Speaker 1

No, but be on his ranch. You're on his

Speaker 2

ranch.

Speaker 1

Literally,

Speaker 2

when the wind is blowing, you hear the tin on the roof. But isn't that, yeah. And

Speaker 3

then it said, as much as I hate to say it, Schultz is Shawn Michaels. Here's the justification.

Speaker 1

That's a real piece of shit.

Speaker 2

It says

Speaker 3

flashy, cocky, great hair era, obsessed with performance, can be annoying if you're not bought in, but undeniable if you are. And those where every camera is, is aware of how hot he is, which is both the bit and the problem. Shawn Michaels.

Speaker 2

Oh God. The bit and the problem. The bit and the problem. That is definitely a

Speaker 3

great.

Speaker 2

But you

Speaker 1

would just. You're a measurable talent is also

Speaker 2

good and bad is what we're saying. But it's not even

Speaker 1

about your negative. Like you would see someone else's negative and you would latch onto it.

Speaker 2

I think this is all. Like a

Speaker 1

flight of

Speaker 2

shit. He read an entirely positive breakdown there. There was nothing negative about that.

Speaker 1

Yeah, but you found it.

Speaker 2

No, I'm just saying that your talent is

Speaker 1

the

Speaker 2

bit, right? The bit and the problem, correct?

Speaker 1

Anyway, I've always loved Sean.

Speaker 2

Yeah, he's phenomenal. Well,

Speaker 1

because he makes me believe. And I give CM Punk that same thing where it's like, I believe he believes. If you told me right now CM Punk doesn't know it's scripted.

Speaker 2

One of Punk's greatest gifts is being so prepared that when he approaches anything, maybe it will go differently. He already knew which way we could take this. But I'll give you a prime example. We did a tag match in the garden recently. And out of nowhere, I looked over and he's punching Sami Zayn in the face already. And the match is what we call started hot.

So we just made a massive decision in the world's most famous arena. Without everybody

Speaker 1

knowing.

Speaker 2

Without, with just his instinct.

Speaker 1

So he's going off vibes. He's like, this is what this needs right now. I

Speaker 2

learned from our interactions, and I think we probably have a few more dances together. I still learn. I mean, you're always learning, but I still learn directly from him. Directly from him. He's, he's, he's, he's,

he's like Sean. And Sean's like you.

Speaker 1

I'm going to hurt you one day.

Speaker 3

Do you want to know? Is

Speaker 2

it also Schultz? What a

Speaker 1

stretch of the imagination. This is Schultz GPT.

Speaker 3

That's what I asked. If you want to know, this is what ChatGPT said. Said, Hulk Hogan is Joe Rogan. Massive cultural figure, built an ecosystem, loyal believers, haters, supplements, catchphrases, and the brother universe. His comedy style is physical, curious, and intense.

Speaker 2

Yeah, everyone got wealthy. The Joe, I mean, that's the Hogan. I mean, that is, with Hogan. Honestly, that's a great, yeah. And I think The

Speaker 1

Undertaker.

Speaker 3

The Undertaker. How many

Speaker 2

they do?

Speaker 3

I did all of them. The Undertaker is Dave Chappelle. Mythical.

Speaker 1

Yes.

Speaker 3

Enters the room, the whole arena changes. Doesn't need to be as fast because he has an aura that does so much of the work. When he talks, everyone treats it like scripture.

Speaker 2

this is good. I do notice when I watch anything Chappelle, it's fun because he may not be telling a joke. Bro, I

Speaker 1

thought you said Dave Attell.

Speaker 3

Chappelle.

Speaker 1

No, no. I guess that works. But it is Attell. You

Speaker 3

think it's more Attell?

Speaker 1

Yeah.

Speaker 3

To me,

Speaker 2

Chappelle, to your point, though, about everything, so much has been done growing up, watching the Chappelle show. So much has happened that he's made you laugh and entertain you. Everything he does, you're plugged into, even if you find out 10 minutes later, oh, he's just directly telling a story that's not a joke.

Speaker 3

Right, right. He has this aura now.

Speaker 2

You're so plugged into what he's saying. Master

Speaker 1

of holding attention.

Speaker 2

Yeah. Isn't that the hardest thing?

Speaker 3

It is. Undertaker. He'll just stand there.

Speaker 1

Yeah, there's like, somebody said this, they were like, I think it was Gnome from The Cellar. It's like, it was a Chappelle and then like. Howard Stern have a unique ability to just talk and you listen.

Speaker 3

Yeah.

Speaker 1

And, I never really thought about that with Howard, cuz I think you get caught up in the antics with Howard. Like when you reflect back, you're

Speaker 3

like,

Speaker 1

you were young for it. We were young for it as well. Like our parents were kind of listening to like this, but at the end of the day, it's like you can't have a girl sit on a vibrator on radio all day. You're filling three and a half other hours, and you just need to talk and have people just hang on every word. Yeah. And some people have that.

Speaker 3

But if you tell me like, oh, there's this massive legal case or this cultural event and Chappelle weighed in on it,

Speaker 1

I'll

Speaker 3

listen. Yeah,

Speaker 1

yeah. And

Speaker 3

like maybe it's funny, maybe it's serious, but like I'm going to tune in. Yeah,

Speaker 1

yeah.

Speaker 3

But there were so many other good ones. It was Cody.

Speaker 2

Was I in there at all? Give me in the-

Speaker 1

Carrot Top. They're like, yeah, King

Speaker 2

of props, right?

Speaker 1

Yeah, exactly. Yeah. I'm

Speaker 3

curious what you think of this. This again comes from ChatGPT and I don't like to talk about comedians when they're not here, but this is what it says. Cody Rhodes, the equivalent, is John Mulaney.

Speaker 2

Mulaney

Speaker 3

suit, legacy energy, polished, theatrical, sincere, a little too perfect until life cracks the porcelain and makes him even more interesting and has a big finish the story energy.

Speaker 2

Yeah, I'm totally about that. I like that. Yeah.

Speaker 1

And Mulaney had his heel turn with addiction. Well, the crack of the porcelain,

Speaker 2

you know?

Speaker 1

Yeah, but we need yours.

Speaker 2

What's most interesting, I think, is the crack of the porcelain in terms of someone that Heyman is really big on with TV in general is character development. Black and white is fun.

Speaker 1

Who'd you want you to be?

Speaker 2

I don't think I had one. I honestly was... Actually, I did have one.

I want to make sure I get his name right. You don't know

Speaker 1

his name?

Speaker 2

No, but I want, he's all over my algorithm. We

Speaker 3

can fix it if you get it wrong.

Speaker 2

Well, just tell me then, and then you, I bet we won't fix it, but he's all over my algorithm. We can

Speaker 1

bleep it.

Speaker 2

Incredibly, incredibly well-dressed, uniquely presenting British comedian, who's super well-educated as well. Jimmy Carr. Jimmy Carr. Jimmy

Speaker 1

Carr. Dude, Jimmy Carr

Speaker 2

talking about. Who is

Speaker 1

Jimmy?

Speaker 2

Jimmy Carr talking about. Just straight up fiction and nonfiction, 1800, like he's deeply read.

Speaker 1

But also

Speaker 2

like the hero's journey, he did this whole explanation on Star Wars and the hero's journey. He doesn't

Speaker 3

have Jimmy Carr in here, but I actually think that that's sort of works. John Mulaney and Jimmy Carr are not fast enough in terms of appearance. I'm

Speaker 2

very happy with John Mulaney, and I'd love to skew a little bit more towards the Carr side of things. Well, Alex thing, are you him taking

Speaker 1

it or something? No, not at all.

Speaker 2

Jimmy Carr is known for real. Yeah, Jimmy Carr is a little bit dark. He definitely has some very dark humor, but what I see, I think maybe my algorithm brings him into is more of his non-comedy stuff. More of his motivational. Yeah, he's

Speaker 1

a very smart guy.

Speaker 2

Very smart. And I think everybody, I didn't go to college, so not going to college, one of the things you want is to educate yourself as you grow, as we get older, because we feel we get in these rooms where we don't ever want to be the one who doesn't know what they're talking about. And I just, I admire that.

Speaker 3

Do you want to know about The one and only Dusty Rhodes.

Speaker 2

Hey, old man. I would have thought it was Shane Gillis, man of the people, but Dusty and Steve are very similar characters just turned over decades later. Yes.

Speaker 3

Adam Sandler. The beloved common man, funny voice, big heart, sneaky genius.

Speaker 2

Dude.

Speaker 3

Critics don't always know what to do with him, but people will love him forever.

Speaker 2

So on first blush, I thought, no way. Instantly, though, thought about dude in his gym shorts, playing basketball, and taking care of his dog. Like, yes, OG. That's right. Sandler. Oh my gosh. Yeah. Yeah, that's a man. This is.

Speaker 1

It's pretty good. Are you

Speaker 2

doing like an AI plug here?

Speaker 1

Not even. You even said it. You're a big

Speaker 2

AI guy. I mean,

Speaker 3

there's so many good. It's funny that

Speaker 1

now you believe it. It's funny that now it makes sense to you. Oh,

Speaker 2

man.

Speaker 3

I mean, all right, give me another comedian or wrestler if you're curious.

Speaker 1

Who's Patrice?

Speaker 3

Patrice is a great one.

Speaker 2

Patrice is your favorite comedian. I think you told me that.

Speaker 1

No, no, he's the greatest comedian. You told me that,

Speaker 2

I asked who he was, and you said he was hands down the best. He's the greatest ever.

Speaker 1

Not even, nobody's close,

Speaker 2

okay? Yep. Who is he?

Speaker 3

Patrice O'Neill is Andre the Giant. A mythic presence, a huge force. Everyone who saw him live talks about they witnessed something sacred. You can't recreate it, you can only tell younger people, hey, you had to be there.

Speaker 2

Yeah. Oh,

Speaker 1

wow. Have

Speaker 2

you been to the WWE headquarters, by the way?

Speaker 1

No.

Speaker 2

That's one of the cooler things when you go into the office now is you just walk in, look to the left, and all three floors, it's a giant Andre painting. Wow. On all, so it goes all the way up to the third floor of the new office, and then there's, he has a statue, and the statues are everywhere too, but that, that's a really cool, you should go, you should go tour.

You're very welcome at WWE, by the way. Everyone always loves going around. Yeah.

Speaker 1

The, yeah, the Andre thing is interesting because He existed in an era where I feel like looking the part

had more importance than maybe even now.

Speaker 2

Yeah.

Speaker 1

Like his size and stature, when you're buying into what we're watching and you're seeing a guy of that size, you're like, it must be real.

Speaker 2

Yeah, there he is.

Speaker 3

I mean, mythical.

Speaker 2

Everything, I mean, my sister has great stories about Andre because I don't remember him much as a kid. He did a couple of camping trips with us and she has stories about his hand just like grabbing her whole head and just and everything about that man and what he did too. And I think it's been brought to light, the Hogan doc did a really good job on it is how important it was.

You mentioned doing the honors, how important it was that at WrestleMania three, he did that for Hogan. And so much of it stems out of that moment.

Speaker 1

What year was that?

Speaker 2

So WrestleMania three is what is it, 88, 86?

Speaker 1

I have memories of this. I'm born in 83, but I have memories of Hogan lifting him. And I don't know if I have memories from like watching something when I was a little bit older.

Speaker 4

I think we just always saw that like replay. Must have been. Yeah, cuz I even remember. Right? I know I was too way too young. And there's no way that I. But like that, like he like flipped him over and yeah.

Speaker 2

He's older here. He's going through it. That's the first time Hogan took him down. Look at the people. Oh, and then he asked him,

Speaker 1

he asked him to do it by the rope so he could lift himself. He could use the rope to get himself back up, right?

Speaker 2

And Bobby Heenan is an unsung hero of WrestleMania three. He's out there all night, multiple outfits. Just, just unbelievable. Here you go. One of those moments where the wrestling business changes. Oh

Speaker 1

boy. I mean, look at the people. Look at those people jumping.

Speaker 2

It's where the wrestling business changes.

Speaker 4

Fire. Yeah, and it's one of those where you Sponiac Silverdome and just

you have, you have moments like this where you kind of as a wrestler, when these moments happen and they're very few and far between,

Speaker 2

you basically

Speaker 4

buy wrestling five to ten years, if that makes any sense. Wrestling was going to

Speaker 2

be good for quite some time.

Speaker 1

People are chasing that moment. That

Speaker 2

moment is so important. And then again, you, those moments when they come along, you can't be the one to say that was one of those moments. The world has to tell you that was one of those moments. And that for sure you, five to ten years of, you know, Hogan being as good as he was too, it was able to actually work. They kept, they kept the, you know, the content quality.

Speaker 4

What was another moment like that? Like one of those like.

Speaker 1

Can I ask you this without you being annoying about it?

Speaker 2

That's, I don't love the preface. Can I, can I, can I

Speaker 1

change it again? Can I ask this? Can I ask this? Can I ask this without being annoying? Is you finishing the story one of those moments? I

Speaker 2

was going to say, answering this question. But can I ask you? Yeah, yeah, I was going to. Because you would

Speaker 1

never want to answer that question.

Speaker 2

Austin.

Speaker 1

John Mulaney would never answer this.

Speaker 2

Almost, Austin had multiple moments like this. Austin with Tyson in between, Austin with Vince, Austin with the beer truck.

Maybe one of the reasons why he's such A phenomenal, one of the most prolific baby faces ever, and the attitude era was so hot. Austin had multiple moments, him running, everyone likes the greatest, maybe pop of all time is when he comes to make the save for mankind, he hits rock with the chair. That's what I was thinking. That's another one.

That's exactly what I was thinking about. They're trying to chase it. They're trying to chase it.

Speaker 1

All right, guys, take a break for a second. Can we talk about the most underrated organ in your body, your liver? It's doing 500 plus functions every single day. Speaker 6

Bonjour, compadre, it's the How do I negotiate so many great travel deals? My greatest gadget, the Priceline app. It's got hotel deals, flight deals, rental car deals, all of those deals in a bundle, deals, game day deals, concert trip deals. No one deals more deals than Priceline. Hold your horses, there's more. The app lets you filter hotels by neighborhood, vibe, star level, and amenities like pools and spas and beachfronts.

Wait, I'm not done. Stop cutting me off.

Speaker 1

Okay, when you finish this story, is there a version of that?

Speaker 2

Yeah.

Speaker 1

Do you think that that bought years, not just for you, but for people getting excited about wrestling? It's a tough one to answer cuz it's about you.

Speaker 2

I, I don't, I don't know if I can answer that, but I can tell you that I, I know for a fact that it

capped off an era and started a new. And,

I, I'm going to take myself out of the, equation in terms of Netflix, I love it that they, they posted it. They, they call it the greatest five minutes in wrestling. And it's the five minutes near the end of that match where I'm basically just laying on the mat while all this other stuff happens. You have, you have the final boss, The Rock.

You have the old sheriff of all of wrestling and a guy passing this knowledge down. in The Undertaker, you have super genius, Mr. Heyman on the outside. You have Jey Uso, you have Solo Sakoa. But,

I think, and, and then you have, you know, Roman Reigns. And I, I would say that Roman on that night,

regardless, I would just say Roman on that night changed, changed our industry. so it has nothing to do with me.

Speaker 1

Wait, why?

Speaker 2

Well, I don't know. I, I feel uncomfortable. but, it has nothing to do with me. if they, we had new management, we've got new potential distributors looking at the product, who want to buy the product, who want to show us to more households than we've ever been shown before. that, that moment I would say is, is not about me. I'm happy to be in it.

And, I'm glad I'm in it. Yeah, so I, I don't know, to answer your question, I don't know. If I was a heel, I would just say,

Speaker 1

it was the greatest, it was the

Speaker 2

greatest moment of history of wrestling. it's definitely, Well,

Speaker 1

it was one of those things where wrestling was real.

Speaker 2

Yeah.

Speaker 1

Meaning like, that really did happen.

Speaker 2

Yeah.

Speaker 1

What was scripted and what, you know, led to that, and obviously like, what happened in WrestleMania before, but like, the journey was real. And every time you get a moment, I imagine in your industry, where the thing that happened is real.

Speaker 2

Yeah.

Speaker 1

That's super exciting, because it often is like a reflection of what's happening outside of wrestling, whether it's like the heat from the fans, or whether it's like real storylines between characters, whether there's some actual like tension between guys, and you get to like play that in the ring. You know, it's, that was the example where it got blurry, and then all these people got to see something happen.

Speaker 2

Got very blurry.

Speaker 1

Pretty cool.

Speaker 2

I, again, it, I. That that moment is one hundred and ten percent Roman Reigns.

Speaker 1

And you feel like, you feel like Roman doing that, but like more you were able to pay everybody's salaries for the next ten years. Like you feel, is that what you're saying? No, I'm not saying that at

Speaker 2

all. No, I do, there's an old, there's an old wrestling saying that, one of my favorite wrestlers, he'd say, there's a couple matches on here that are paying for everybody's flights.

Speaker 1

Yeah.

Speaker 2

And I always love that because I don't think, the younger generation knows, and it, they're not, they don't need to know. I understand that they don't know. I don't think they understand the full hand over of tickets, how difficult selling one ticket can be, how difficult selling ten thousand tickets can be. I don't think they fully know, and I hope that they don't need to worry about it.

You mentioned some of the guys, they'll worry about it when it's time for them to worry about it. And that's our job, and that's maybe why that whole thing of getting everybody ready, cuz we need this to keep going.

Speaker 1

That's the, you often don't know how lovely you have it when you're in a position of support, because your ambition makes you focus on being in the position of a draw.

Speaker 2

But

Speaker 1

the weight of the draw is very different. When you're in a position of support, you get to go out there, there's no expectation, your match gets to quote unquote steal the show, but did it fill the arena.

Speaker 2

And when it

Speaker 1

has to, That's a very different dynamic. It's

Speaker 2

different. And then this modern generation growing up with, I see so many people try to be too smart for social media. They try to clap back at it. They try to get in, get in there because the, you know, wrestling fans, particularly on X can be very, very, very negative.

Speaker 1

Right.

Speaker 2

And very mean. And the moment you sell for them, they've got you. And what I wish they could understand is that you can't get down and get involved in this. It's, it's, and this is the thing that they won't find out, and you just mentioned the burden. When you get to where you want, it's 10 times worse. When you get to where you want, everything you do and say becomes news.

Oh,

Speaker 1

yeah.

Speaker 2

And that is hilarious in a way, but also really scary.

Speaker 1

Yeah.

Speaker 2

Really scary. Like, I make jokes on my podcast. Come on. And

Speaker 1

then there's whole threads about it.

Speaker 2

Yeah, no, like really scary. And I just wish they know it's only getting worse, so don't bother with it now.

Speaker 1

But it is an awesome responsibility to have. Oh my

Speaker 2

gosh, it's what you want. It's the ninth inning, you want to be up. I said it on TV the other night, and again, when wrestling reflects what's real, it's great. I told them I'm the king of the unwinnable position. Put me in the unwinnable position. Oh, another huge baby face that sang as a heel, but the crowd is losing their mind for, and then there's me.

I'll find my way. I'll survive. And it's also my job to. It's my job to. Someone handed this to me, and it's my job.

Speaker 1

I don't know if there's another industry that hands it over.

Speaker 2

No, and do we really hand it over? I think

Speaker 1

there are guys that do.

Speaker 2

There are guys who really do, and then there's guys who hand it over and go, all right. I hope

Speaker 1

you fail.

Speaker 2

Not I hope you fail, but also like I'll be here.

Speaker 1

In case you need to call me back,

Speaker 2

I'll be here. And that's also, I don't even think that's negative. It's when you're not ready till you're ready, and you don't know until you know. And I don't know if it's like this in the comedy space. I feel like it probably is.

Speaker 1

Nobody hands over.

Speaker 2

You're all just doing it, right?

Speaker 1

There are people that will, there are people that will like maybe co-sign, but there's also an advantage in co-signing. Sometimes co-signing might, you know, breathe more life into you. So like, you know, and then there are people who benevolently, there are people who have made their like, so much of their life, like Keith Robinson is a iconic comic, he's from Philly, but like we know him as iconic New York comedy seller comic.

And like, he has put on so many fucking people, it's unbelievable. Like literally like dragging them up from Philly, making them hang out in clubs, introducing them, building fucking careers like.

Speaker 2

Yeah,

Speaker 1

he's an absolute legend. And there are tons of those types of comics. And that is awesome. But I think a lot of times what happens when people are on top is that, you know, they might not feel the same way as somebody else coming on top. They might feel concerned about it.

Speaker 2

I think in wrestling, in one of my favorite matches, if not my favorite match of all time, is a prime example of a little bit of what you're saying and a little bit of, it's a bit of both. Is you want to do it honestly and great,

Speaker 1

But then you also want to be the one who said, I picked you. It's, there's an element of it that is positively performative. You're still doing it. You're still handing it. But you

Speaker 2

want to be yours. But you also want to be

Speaker 1

one who was smart enough to, and I think that's healthy in a way to pick and hope, never root against. That's my biggest thing. And I learned that, especially from my time away from WWE, is the pie is not as big as we think. Do not root against anybody. Don't. Root for them. Even the guy you and hate.

Speaker 2

Yeah.

Speaker 1

Root for him. Because he's

Speaker 2

also amplifying the pie.

Speaker 1

Right. And also, if you can't beat him, fair and square, you can't beat him.

Speaker 2

Yeah.

Speaker 1

If you can't walk out and get the same reaction, fair and square, then it wasn't your night. Work towards it. Work towards when you can. And wrestling's also cyclical. Sometimes you're the last music they hear. Sometimes you're not.

Speaker 3

Yeah. What's the craziest story an OG's told you that you were like, in all my years of wrestling, I have never heard this?

Speaker 1

Well, the Haku Ai story is real. So we mentioned him in terms of like a crazy thing they did.

my dad used to tell me this tall tale growing up that him and another fellow were looking to get, you know, steal gold, silver, everything the country was built on. They were getting to steal and they derailed a train, derailed a train outside of, Austin, Texas. Like they broke the tracks and derailed the train and then went and robbed scrap metal off it.

Clearly, I didn't believe the story at all. Didn't believe that you'd derail the train. And then at his, memorial service, a gentleman came up to me who is a sheriff now in Austin and fully co-opted the story about how, oh man, we were worried. We thought that driver was going to get hurt. We didn't think it would go that bad. I couldn't believe it.

The fact that they took scrap metal off a train in what was probably 19 Sixty something? Like, you're not, who's robbing trains still? That, that was a crazy, I guess wrestling. Your dad remembers

Speaker 3

that he did it or he knew someone that did it?

Speaker 1

No, he claimed he did it with his friend, and I thought, yeah, it's a tall tale, it's not real. And then the cop came and told me the full story. Felt terrible, terrible decision. But there's a lot of like that in wrestling, so, Stranger Than Fiction type moments, you know?

Speaker 2

That's wild.

Speaker 1

When you get Sean on here, you'll get some good ones, and you should be able to get him, because, that's my boy. Yeah, I mean, you're the Sean Michaels of comedy.

Speaker 2

I don't like how patronizing you're being with this.

Speaker 1

I thought yours, after I've heard the full list, I think it's great for you. I do, I think that's awesome. What was

Speaker 2

the for you supposed to mean right there?

Speaker 1

I think it's great.

Speaker 2

I think, isn't it great for, isn't it great for Sean?

Speaker 1

Sean's a, a, a veteran, you're still a young man, you know? Sean is. 42

Speaker 2

years old.

Speaker 1

42. Yeah.

Speaker 2

How old are you?

Speaker 1

41.

Speaker 2

Wearing it.

Speaker 1

41, and

Speaker 2

you know,

Speaker 1

you know what we didn't talk about? The

Speaker 2

cigars, bro.

Speaker 1

That really blew my mind that we haven't spoke about? Yeah. Is that we were laying in that pile when my daughter was born.

Speaker 2

Bro, I know. We

Speaker 1

were laying in. And you had

Speaker 2

the most Mulaney jokes about it.

Speaker 1

What, my Mulaney jokes? Yeah, yeah, yeah.

Speaker 2

You were Mulaneying it up, dude. You really were.

Speaker 1

Yeah, I got a lot of like heartbreak kid from you that night. Oh, you know the stuff. You know

Speaker 2

the stuff.

Speaker 1

That was a, that was something, man. Yeah. And we ruined those girls scene.

Speaker 3

What do you mean? What do you mean?

Speaker 1

Without giving too much in the movie, there is a moment, I think it's seen a little bit in the trailer, where some of the heroes are all beaten up, laying in a body, like laying in one big mess of bodies. We're literally laid

Speaker 2

on top of one another. Yes.

Speaker 1

And there are two of the female stars of the film talking to each other very sharply during the scene. And the scene was, I believe, almost an introductory for one of them. So these are important moments. Iconic

Speaker 2

character.

Speaker 1

Iconic character.

Speaker 2

Iconic.

Speaker 1

And because we had to keep our eyes closed, and because I had my phone tucked into my chest waiting to find a picture of my child, because I knew that it was happening, I'm looking down, but also the anticipation for these lines being so sharp and so seriously delivered that we were unable to keep it together. So before, would you just hear footsteps? And then the line was something about the spire.

Speaker 2

The second, she would say spire in a way that was like really funny to us, but also we're like cold and delusional and just like laying on top of each other. So sometimes like you ever say a word enough and it just becomes funny.

Speaker 1

And I had all of Zangief on top of me.

Speaker 2

Oh yeah, so the seven foot Dutch guy is like laying

Speaker 1

on top of me. And then,

Speaker 2

so we start laughing at spire. And then we could hear her boots walking. And we know within three steps spire's about to happen. And

Speaker 3

when you know you're not supposed to laugh.

Speaker 1

Oh man.

Speaker 3

Now it's

Speaker 2

at the boots. Dying laughing. Dying laughing. So, and I don't think she was aware what we were laughing at.

Speaker 1

Yeah. No, I don't, I think they just considered us rather. Nobody would have understood what's funny about this line on his way to the spire. Nobody would have understood, but then we did have a beautiful moment where we cut and I looked down and there was a baby girl, Leilani was born.

Speaker 3

Wow. Yeah.

Speaker 1

That's

Speaker 3

amazing. That gotta be the craziest story.

Speaker 1

Yeah, well, it was also crazy because we all got it in the circle, but then there were some other people in production like, wait, what?

They just had a baby? Like there was other people who you tell, like, oh, congratulations. Oh, it happened so quickly. And

Speaker 2

people got

Speaker 3

you gifts and stuff? I got

Speaker 1

a gift from almost everybody. I didn't get one from...

Speaker 2

I did give you a

Speaker 1

gift. We had a gift together. We smoked a cigar.

Speaker 2

I gave you a gift.

Speaker 1

Did you?

Speaker 2

My time.

Speaker 3

Oh,

Speaker 1

man. What would

Speaker 2

Shawn Michaels have done?

Speaker 1

Yeah, right? But we, I have a photo. I'll send it. It's me and, it's me and. Who gave you a gift? Horrible. Everyone. Everyone. That night, the next day.

Speaker 2

I cast you in the fucking. No, so what did they give you? They gave you like baby stuff?

Speaker 1

A lot of baby stuff, yes. That's very

Speaker 2

thoughtful.

Speaker 1

But we had a great moment where we smoked a party gas, Siri number two, off to the side, me and Orville. And I think it's funny, I look at the picture, it's the only time the wig is ever malformed. The wig has like a dent in it from one of you laying on top of me. And it was made of yak hair.

Speaker 3

Wow.

Speaker 1

Yak hair, yeah. He had a wig. He was wigged up the whole time. Extensions?

Speaker 2

Extensions, yeah. I took my shit serious, bro.

Speaker 1

And you wore that little bonnet.

Speaker 2

It's the word, it's the adjective.

Speaker 1

Oh, let me do it again. Yeah, try again. You wore the bonnet.

Speaker 2

Yeah.

Speaker 1

Got it.

Speaker 2

See how much easier that is when you can fucking just speak like a normal human being? No, I remember

Speaker 1

seeing and thinking, that's got to be uncomfortable, but you were wearing it the whole time, right? Yeah.

The things

Speaker 2

I'll do.

Speaker 1

Yeah, you, you were committed.

Speaker 2

I was committed. You were caught

Speaker 1

committed.

Speaker 2

And we sat and we smoked that cigar like gentlemen.

Speaker 1

Like gentlemen. And then they went and tried again with us. There he is. You

Speaker 3

never gave his score,

Speaker 1

his acting score. Yeah. I, I, I would give him a,

I'd give him a solid nine out of ten. Nine out of ten. I give, I give, I give him a solid nine out of ten.

Speaker 3

Oh, he, he does do code a lot.

Speaker 1

He

Speaker 3

does, he does code a lot. Yeah, everybody

Speaker 2

else gets a ten out of ten. David's a ten out of ten. David's

Speaker 1

a ten out of ten.

Speaker 2

Koji, ten out of ten.

Speaker 1

Koji was just a part. Kalina, I mean, Dutch Giant, Bidja. I think, I think

Speaker 2

Koji was retaining semen.

Speaker 1

What?

Speaker 3

Whose?

Speaker 2

I think he was.

Speaker 3

Wait a minute.

Speaker 2

I think he was doing semen retention. Oh,

Speaker 3

like his own. Yeah. I think.

Speaker 2

Did you guys talk about that at all?

Speaker 1

I, I feel like I cannot answer. I think you're saying he was withholding. As the character. Which is good.

Speaker 2

Wait, what, how else would you interpret that?

Speaker 1

I definitely, if I was going to say he wasn't out there doing it, I wouldn't say he was retaining semen. It's not how I'd word it. How

Speaker 2

would you word it? I mean, that's what it is. I don't know. Cody

Speaker 1

was doing Koji. Koji was real life Ryu, so whatever that was.

Speaker 2

But I mean, I imagine Ryu was retaining his semen.

Speaker 1

I feel like.

Speaker 3

Do they talk about that in the video game?

Speaker 1

Yeah, again, I think this is a bit of a. I don't know if Ryu has love interest. The Schultz spin here, you know.

Speaker 2

I get a Schultz spin, you have a Cody Lai?

Speaker 1

Yeah, I don't know enough about what he was up to, other than he was being Ryu.

Speaker 2

I just, I distinctly remember him so committed to that character and meditating and like. Discipline. Just discipline.

Speaker 1

He told you he was retaining his semen.

Speaker 2

I think that there was a moment where we talked about how much semen he has retained.

Speaker 3

Really? Was Dan not retaining?

Speaker 2

Dan's married, so he's been retaining for, he's been retaining for about five years now, six years.

Speaker 1

You did like a big Airbnb with the family, right?

Speaker 2

Yeah, yeah, yeah. That's

Speaker 1

the way to go, huh?

Speaker 2

I mean, yeah, we, you know, we had kid there and like, it was the whole thing.

Speaker 1

Are you excited about the movie?

Speaker 2

I am really excited.

Speaker 1

I am too.

Speaker 2

It's fucking fun, dude.

Speaker 1

It's so fun.

Speaker 2

It's like, yeah, I'm just, I don't know. It's weird because I, I did actually really play it as a kid, like in the arcades, like that's how old I am.

Speaker 1

Yeah.

Speaker 2

And I like remember going during lunch to there was this like bodega or deli on First Avenue, and I was at Wagner Middle School, and Wagner's on 76 between second and third, and the deli was on like 69th and first or something like that. And I remember we would go and it was actually Capcom versus Marvel, the game that was there. By the time I was in middle school, that was like what was hot.

And I remember going and playing and it was just like this daily thing that we would do. It was just such like a part of your life. And it was like the first part where, it was like the first thing you could like flex on as a kid. Like as a kid, you could be good at basketball and these other things, but like it didn't matter that much at that age.

At that age, it kind of mattered who like ran fast straight.

Speaker 1

You know

Speaker 2

what I mean? Like being like the best at basketball. Different metrics. Yeah,

Speaker 1

your street fighter or your Marvel versus Capcom. That matters. That guy's really good. That fucking matters. He got all the way to such and such. Yeah. Oh man.

Speaker 4

In Marvel versus Capcom, what Marvel player did you play with? Oh,

Speaker 1

that's easy.

Speaker 2

Can I guess?

Speaker 1

The Cap. Captain America.

Speaker 4

Oh, really?

Speaker 1

Yeah.

Speaker 4

Oh, you didn't go X-Men?

Speaker 1

Huh?

Speaker 4

You didn't go any X-Men?

Speaker 1

No, I did not. I have a deep love and affinity for the X-Men.

You know what? do you remember, did you guys have Pizza Hut's growing up?

Speaker 2

I think you'd play with it.

Speaker 1

This is how bad the Georgia public school system maybe was. If you got all Bs, not all As, all Bs, you could bring your, report card to them.

Speaker 3

Oh, I remember that. And you'd get a

Speaker 1

VHS copy of Night of the Living Mutants, which is like the original, animated series.

Speaker 4

Oh, they would give us a free pizza.

Speaker 1

You get the little, you get a personal pan. Yeah, that was the thing. For Bs. Just for Bs. So I was, that was, and that's, yeah, and that's actually, they had not even, like, they had a Street Fighter cabinet at that Pizza Hut, and it was the first time, oh, this is gonna sound terrible, apologies, Brandy. It was the first time I saw a woman's boob, because in the stage where you'd play Sagat.

Speaker 2

You have to apologize to your wife for

Speaker 1

that? I try, I try, I try to always put her over and talk very, very kindly, as, as you should, and you do. Of course

Speaker 4

you

Speaker 3

should, obviously, but like, your wife knows you've seen

Speaker 2

boobs before. I mean, like, China was in the WWE back in the day.

Speaker 1

Yeah, yeah. Yeah, see, these are good points, but the point is,

the point is it

Speaker 3

changed.

Speaker 1

Yeah, I wouldn't, the point is it changed. If you play the game now, it's covered, it's covered up. It's a statue in the back. That's a

Speaker 2

little disrespectful. Also,

Speaker 1

Fuente, the box had a woman with the boobs as well. Yeah. The Fuente box still does.

Speaker 2

Do you like some boobies?

Speaker 1

Yeah, I, I, I do like some boobies.

Speaker 2

Dude, you're such a heel, dude. You're a dog. You're such a heel thing to do. You are a dog.

Speaker 3

You're a dog. We're barking

Speaker 1

a lot on set. This is

Speaker 2

what he does when he walks around set. It's actually a really sophisticated, like, social tool that I imagine that you developed from being around people that you have to say hi to constantly.

Speaker 1

Move quickly.

Speaker 2

Yes. So it's like, what he would do is, all right, when you're on set, you're around all the same people every single day, and when you walk from one place to another, you're going to see 20 people. And like, obviously, as a normal social person, the right thing to do when you see somebody is say hi. What's going on? Blah, blah, blah. But like, sometimes you got to get to A to B.

And I would notice you do this thing as you walk around, and acknowledge me, and be like, and I'm like, what's this parking thing? And then I realized it's the equivalent of like a fist bump. Yeah,

Speaker 3

I like that. Move

Speaker 2

on.

Speaker 1

Yeah.

Speaker 3

I acknowledge you. We're, we're pushing

Speaker 2

through.

Speaker 1

Yeah. And you got

Speaker 4

a germ thing, so you don't have to touch

Speaker 1

it. You have a germ

Speaker 2

thing?

Speaker 1

No, but I mean, I know you've got a germ thing. You've got a germ thing? No, I thought you did.

Speaker 2

I don't have germs.

Speaker 1

Oh, they told me before I came on set, just be mindful, he's got a germ thing.

Speaker 2

Is, is that what they told you before you came on set? How's your breath?

Speaker 1

No, but I, you remember, obviously, Home Improvement, Tim Toolman Taylor. That's, I, I had to ask myself at one point, where did this come from? Because there's a wrestler right now, Braun Breaker barks, and the crowd barks, and I'm like, dang it. It's kind of like, that's his, that's his. So it's got to be his, but at least backstage, I can still be like.

You know, actually there's a, you ever talk to Solo Soko, who I was talking about him earlier, great story where we did a match with me and Grok Lesnar versus Roman and Solo, and the match was never going to happen.

Speaker 2

Why?

Speaker 1

We were going to do a big schmoz, a big angle at the end, so there wasn't going to be a match, but Solo was new, and he didn't, he didn't know the nuance of sometimes maybe the high level of the game, where people are not saying things for a reason. There's producers who don't even know what we're about to pull. This may be a limited number of people we need to know, but I thought on his side of things, he would have been primmy.

So he's planning to do a full tag match with me and Grok, and Grok is a unique animal to approach. He doesn't even lock up. So how do you get in there with Grok? What do you do? Like, do you just run up and kick him? Do you run up and let him close? What do you do? And he backstage very nervous, which he's never nervous anymore cuz he's really assumed the locker room role now.

But man, he backstage, I walked right by him. I didn't realize what I did. He goes, hey,

what are we doing out there? Hey, what are we doing? And I just went, and I kept going. And he, at the beginning of this match, which doesn't happen, is basically like getting ready to jump us.

Speaker 3

Whoa.

Speaker 1

Not aware of what's about to happen because he thought that's the only way you could do it with a guy like this. Like you jump on him and get what you can and then he'll take back over. So it's a classic case of maybe the bark almost

Speaker 2

went the other way. Almost

Speaker 1

went the wrong way. Like he should have got the information. It's funny you say

Speaker 2

that about Grok. I remember some match. I don't know what exactly it was, but where you went, maybe it was even a promo, but you just went right at Grok.

Speaker 1

Yeah, I typically would. I dove on him when he, you know, it was,

Speaker 2

it was punches to the head. Always, yeah. Then he gets you and he does the.

Speaker 1

And you start getting thrown around. Yeah. And you get them Germans, super city.

Speaker 2

Yeah. Yeah. But I remember that. That's right. That's interesting. So he just won't lock up. So it's just really street fight with him.

Speaker 1

Yeah, and I mean, he's, he's definitely in, he's the closest to it's very real. And when I say it's very real is, I'm not talking about getting punched in the eye or the nose. The

Speaker 2

pain of it.

Speaker 1

Well, more the earn it. More the earn it. And the earn it is something you, you learn when you get in there with older guys. They do want you to get where you want to get, but you might have to take a few more steps to get there. If that makes any sense, you know?

Speaker 2

Are you at the level of success that the belt is not important?

Speaker 1

I, I feel like the belt's the most important thing in the game. You have to

Speaker 2

say that obviously. No, I

Speaker 1

don't. There are certain

Speaker 2

fighters, like. Boxers, for example, where their name recognition is so valuable that it carries-

Speaker 1

It supersedes the title.

Speaker 2

We don't even have to say supersede, but

it almost holds the weight of a title. It holds the importance of a title because people are invested in those characters. If The Rock comes back at any point in time, we don't need him to have a fucking belt. It's The Rock.

Speaker 1

Okay.

Speaker 2

Would you agree? No,

Speaker 1

no, no, no. I totally get what you're saying, but it's for the promoter to know that. Because even somebody like that

Speaker 2

might

Speaker 1

still want the belt. There's something about it. It's something about having it. And again, what's real and what's not. When you walk around with it backstage, it's real. I hope you have more wrestlers who sit on the couch with you and then lie to you and then say, oh, no. I don't

Speaker 4

want that. I don't want

Speaker 1

that. I'm good now, buddy.

Speaker 4

I feel like when The Rock came back, he really wanted it. He wanted that top slot back.

Speaker 1

It's, again, I consider it a positive thing. You want it.

Speaker 2

There's nothing wrong.

Speaker 1

You need a person in your life, and I have two who are both you know well, and that's Hunter and Nick. You need a person in your life, a promoter, a creative lead, someone to say,

right now is yours time. We need this done. Or right now, you need that. That's for them to know. I think as a wrestler, you should still always, always be looking at what is the guy wearing the title doing? Is he doing the most? When I am I doing the most? So that's how we keep going. How we keep going. I, to any segment that would go wrong off the rails, even if I know very, very in my bones that it might not have been my fault, I want to put it on me.

Especially when you're wearing the title, especially. That's, I'm not definitely, you mentioned like pretty well liked in certain locker rooms, not by all. And the wrestlers that I don't get along with are the ones who aren't in it for that. I just, it doesn't mean I don't like them, I just don't get you. Like I don't get you. You didn't want to grow up and be champ? Like what did you want to do? And it's not wrong.

It's just to me like, and maybe I grew up, we defined athlete earlier by playing kids sports. Maybe I grew up in it. My dad and mom were not coming to those wrestling tournaments for me not to place. They weren't like, we weren't having a bad ride home if I didn't, but they weren't coming for me. They wanted you to win. They wanted you to win.

Like

Speaker 2

Hunter said, Triple H said that, I don't want to misquote him here, but he had something about like the baby faces.

Speaker 1

Yeah.

Speaker 2

He likes the heels. And he's like, he's like the baby faces something, I forget, he said it on the pod here, but you could feel like in his heart, like he appreciate, and maybe cause he spent time as a heel.

Speaker 1

Yeah.

Speaker 2

But like, it's not like he was being critical of baby faces, but maybe he felt like the heels don't get the, the due that they deserve.

Speaker 1

Proper heels don't. Proper heels don't. And today it's, we're, we're redefining the industry every day. So when you speak in absolute, when I speak in absolutes, I get in trouble because I say, well, that's not a heel or that's not a baby face. The fans are the ones who decide. So they're right and I'm wrong. But I will say at least how I was trained, a proper heel isn't someone that you like, isn't someone that you're like, oh, he got new music and a new look and dark hair and all.

That. That's another layer of paint that makes you cool. JBL is a great example of a heel. He was a heel and he came to Texas and they had shirts for him because he was from Texas. He went to the merch stand himself and took the shirts. You're not selling shirts for me, you're selling shirts for him. And who he was pointing at was John Cena.

Like, I don't care. Oh, he said,

Speaker 2

I don't want you to.

Speaker 1

That's a heel.

Speaker 2

Interesting. Interesting

Speaker 1

shot there, Bradshaw. Yeah, like, but when he was New York transplant, hat on the head, limos, financial genius, all the things, one of the smartest guys I'd ever been around in the wrestling space. That's, that is mine. It doesn't mean I'm, again, the fans are right and I'm wrong, but that to me is, that's a heel. And the chase for that is very hard.

Speaker 2

On set.

Speaker 1

Yes.

Speaker 2

Not on set, at a bar. You're wearing your

Like merch, pretty much. Not merch, but like you have like your own American nightmare. You're still in.

Speaker 1

One of the, so I think one of the more difficult things for me, and this is, you could be on a therapist couch, you could be talking to a, a bazillion people mental health wise trying to figure out who you are, but one of the hardest things for me, and CVV knows I'm going to bring him up, and he asked me a question one time that I, it bothered me, and I really wrestled with it.

He asked me, he goes, when are you not in character? Because as a wrestler, you feel like you, you split that line anyways. On a

Speaker 2

flight, you're in character. The suspension

Speaker 1

of disbelief, and that is true. At the

Speaker 2

bar, you're in character. From the moment

Speaker 1

you leave your house.

Speaker 2

Yeah.

Speaker 1

To the moment you go back to your house, that's how it was for the wrestlers I liked. They were always on, they were always, hey, what do you do? Hey, what's that, what's that logo on your cuff? All like, yeah, you were always in. I don't know if that's the healthiest thing, though. I don't know. I know that I finally got an answer for that when I got to the point where I had children and thought, oh, I could care less about

Speaker 2

my

Speaker 1

performance. I just need her like, she's asking me, you know, fun questions that I right now still know the answers to and, you know, putting a 19 with the 9 backwards, or I can help here, you know, like that's the gift.

Speaker 2

What's this right here, Mark?

Speaker 3

I don't know. This is the, one of the greatest JBL heel promos of all time.

Speaker 6

Never been to fight, heavy son. Never. Because if you had, you would not ask such a stupid question. Lives do not change in a fight. Lives are broken in a fight. When one man has to say, I quit,

he's no longer a man. I've been kicking ass my entire life. Welcome to my home. Well, John Cena was sitting in the stands just a few years ago, rooting for whoever was fighting against me. I was winning championships. Now he says he wants to stay with the people who brought him to the dance. Good, they can stay with him. They can suffer with him.

They can agonize with him, and they can quit with him.

Because just like Babe Ruth, I'm going to call my shot.

Speaker 4

I'm going

Speaker 6

to make you bleed, John. I'm going to bust you wide open. That coming down your face will not be sweat, it's going to be blood. It's going to get in your eyes. It's going to get in your mouth. You're not going to be able to see.

You better go back to your You better go to your movie career. He'll run for governor of Minnesota. These idiots will elect anybody.

Whoa. And you don't belong in wrestling with me, cuz the last thing you will see through the blood in your eyes is my boot picking off your face. The last thing you will say is what you have said your entire life. I quit, and you will realize, son,

that I am who I say that I am. I am a wrestling

god.

Speaker 1

Okay, here's why. Here's why I love this. No barbs, no zingers. No,

Speaker 2

the Minnesota governor was

Speaker 1

fired. But, but, like, there's no, he didn't treat it like a rap battle. It's about you winning the title, you're not gonna win the title, you're gonna have to say you quit, and everybody's gonna quit with you. Just writing for a heel is very difficult, how I look at, at, you're not trying to, promos have really become rap battles now. What do you got in your pocket? You know what I mean? You got these zingers on one another.

And those are fun, but a really, I feel like a really proper, a giving partner in those segments is the one that lets you say all the cool stuff. Lets you, hey, I'll say this, I'll set you up. It's going to be stiff, but you could say this. You know, and this is just a promo that's not cool. It's just direct, not cool, direct. You're going to, nothing cool about that.

There wasn't a kid there like, I want to be JBL. No, and he's also making a promise, which if I correct this match, he does bust John Cena up, bad. Bloody, bloody John Cena. And I bet you John Cena overcomes. But just the idea that a bad guy isn't necessarily telling falsehoods either. He might be telling you the truth. But the way he's telling you, it's the way he's telling you, it's the grinding of an axe.

It's really complicated. It really is. Yeah, it really is. And

Speaker 3

then it looks like John Cena eventually beats him and forces him to say, I quit.

Speaker 1

I quit. Yeah, say I quit. This guy, you know, is it funny to pick on Josh there and say he never been in a fight? It's a little stiff, but also that's perfect cuz the guy who just said that, Josh just put JBL over by selling for that cuz JBL is now going to go out there and sell for John Cena and say I quit. It's one collaborative effort.

We have backstage, look at this.

Speaker 2

That's the fight?

Speaker 1

Bloodbath. That might have been the one. Bloodbath. Oh

Speaker 2

my god. So

Speaker 1

we have people backstage that are wonderful, and I'm going to shout them out. And this is one thing that I love that Hunter does. Kathy Kelly and Jackie Redman, and when we have Byron Saxton, when we have Corey Graves, and all our analysts, Joe Test, Michael Cole, of course, the voice of WWE, is everyone in the production should know the direction, which all the way kicking back to Street Fighter was so welcoming.

And again, like wrestling, it felt like wrestling to me. Oh, I know where we're all going here. Right. So it gives me room to do background, to do homework on my character, because, oh, I know where this is going. Why is this guy here for this tournament? Is it for the tournament? Or is there something else? And in this case, when it's done this way, everyone works together.

Everyone's sitting in that production meeting, and Triple H is really great at that, should know, hey. You, you backing down and being a coward for him here, you, you have to understand that's your role because later he's going to be a coward and that's, that'll be his role. It's, it's real collaborative and that we need that as an industry to survive.

And again, with the new management we have.

Speaker 2

How do you balance the egos with the collaboration? Yeah,

Speaker 4

that's what I want to

Speaker 1

hear. Earn it. So it's a great question. So some guys don't want to.

Speaker 2

So what do you do with those guys? But if they

Speaker 1

know it's right, if they know it's business, it's a matter of earning it. And I, this is like an example, and so much of this is inside baseball and it's, it's, but it's, it's fun to talk about. If I grabbed Undertaker's leg and wanted to ring it on the post, grab it and ring it, most guys I can pull out, split their legs, like wishbone and then ring it.

Undertaker, if I pull his leg, is going to pull back. And then he's gonna pull back, and I'm gonna be in a genuine struggle, and then I bet you he's gonna pop his head through the second and the bottom rope, and what you do there is you punch him square in the forehead until he finally lays back, and then you pull it and ring his. It's earning it.

And I don't think we have egos that go beyond that, right? And that's proper ego. That's proper if I'm 6'7", or whatever Taker was, I'm gonna make him earn it. Like, you can work with anybody. Dan Housen can wrestle with Gunther, and that match, when it happens, will probably be beautiful to see, because Gunther's somebody you have to earn it with, and how could you possibly get anything from this guy? But if you're a pro and you understand business, there's a way.

Anything can happen. That's the beautiful thing about wrestling. You can do anything. You just gotta think. You know, which is again, I was so excited being on set because that's how Noah was talking. It's all about thought and how can I say this and it doesn't,

Speaker 2

you know,

Speaker 1

why would I do this? Why would I do this? We all think, why? Why would I do this? That's

Speaker 2

what I've noticed about like the, the good actors is that like they have a real, and just from like very little experience with them and like obviously being the fucking worst actor around all like people that know what they're doing. But like they, they start asking questions like why would I do it and would my character do it? And like what would the reaction be to this? Like Koji would ask that a lot.

Noah was asking that a lot. And it's not like how do I, it's not I'm being an annoying actor thing about me. It's more just like tell me why I would, why I would do it. Like wouldn't my character be upset if this happened? Would they be joking around in this situation? Like what do they actually want out of this? And it's interesting that like I, I did this movie, this is, she just won Emmy, Ray Sehorn was like un-fucking-believable for Pluribus.

Shout out Ray, she's incredible. And it was just like acting, it was like acting 101, it was just school. I'd just be like sitting down with her, like waiting to go on, just basically like trying to soak up tips. And she was, she was like super analytical about the scene, like every single line. She was just like breaking it down like a, like a football coach almost.

Speaker 1

You

Speaker 2

know, just like, yeah, what the fuck do I want here? What's stopping me from getting it here? And she said a really interesting thing. She's like, when you want something, you don't have to pretend to be something. Like when you, when you actually have something you want, when you're saying the, the lines, that comes through. When you don't have something that you want and something's getting in the way of it, you're like pretending to be happy or pretending to be sad and that comes through.

Oh man. I thought it was like a really good way of thinking about it, you know, without Getting too deep into like the acting on the jumbo, but like I would just watch it with her. And I'd be like, wow, this is really fucking natural.

Speaker 1

Do you know where I finally kind of said, could you ask me, oh, hey, what do you have left to accomplish? And we're talking about the wrestling space.

I hope I've been forthcoming with everyone when I love it. It's my life's work. There's plenty to accomplish. Maybe it's more business metrics and specifics like that. But I got the acting bug hard when we went to see, I don't know if you came to this one, I think you'd already seen it, when we saw the screening of Union County. Oh, Noah's movie, yeah, yeah.

Well, right? Two things happened for me in addition to getting the bug bug. One was, were you there that night? No,

Speaker 2

no.

Speaker 1

Okay, so he invited us and I was all excited. Oh my gosh, we're going to see someone we've never seen. And it was Australia where we were locked in. So we were doing things together. I didn't know what type of movie it was. So I, again, have a night, I brought a bottle of Blanton's in my backpack. And we were all sitting just in this little private screening room, and I was going to pass it around, you know, like OG, like community style, we're just going to pass this bottle around.

The beginning of the movie will let you know it's not that movie that you do that for.

It heavily covers substance abuse, and I literally am pulling it out of my bag, and there's, it's giving the scroll on the screens about what's happening in the rehabilitation program, and I just slowly slipped it back in my bag. All right, never mind. But when I saw that, that was where for me, and I don't know, it was a similar moment to when she told you that, I was so, I called Brandy after, I was so over the thought, like, I got to, I have to start flexing this muscle.

I really am intrigued by this. I want to get good at this, because I I'm here and this is fun and it's action and it's and I'm I'm I like the choreography of the fights and things that feels natural but what what these guys are doing I I want to do that so it was really really there is an element

Speaker 2

with like the collaborative effort with it where

not every line is your line you might be setting somebody up for something

Speaker 1

yeah

Speaker 2

and their line is what's going to kick the scene or their line is what's going to you know drive home the emotion of it or whatever it is and it's I think it's very easy to get caught up in especially like in in our business which is like okay we got the mic and we got to deliver here sometimes your deliver is setting up Noah, who's carrying us on the fucking journey.

And if the, if the audience isn't buying Noah, we don't have a movie. If they're not behind Koji, we don't have a movie, right? These are the characters that we're all showing up to see. And then we get to ideally like elevate what they do. But I think the people who are the best at it are the ones that are like, if somebody's being scary, you gotta be fucking scared.

Speaker 1

Sure.

Speaker 2

You know, if David is being bison, he's being a villain.

Speaker 1

Yeah.

Speaker 2

It's gotta be terrifying. Right? Like, otherwise, what are we doing here? Otherwise, you're doing the thing in wrestling where it's like you're not selling.

Speaker 1

Yeah, where you're indicating, too, it's versus Actually being, I think one of the things that helped with David was he's big. People may not realize David is-

Speaker 2

Yeah, I thought David was like 5'8".

Speaker 1

Yeah, David's

Speaker 2

my height.

Speaker 1

David is big. Yeah. And I think everyone may not figure that out right away. Because he plays

Speaker 2

like coy characters that are like a little sneaky, and then he walks around, and you're like, oh, okay.

Speaker 1

Yeah, I had a dream in mind, I thought, and if we do any more of these or anything like that, I'd love to fight with David, because in the anime, it's one of the best fights ever. Guile is so outmatched, but the efforts there, and I love that about Guile in that role, the effort to beat up Bison. It's Captain

Speaker 2

America versus Thanos, man. He's

Speaker 1

nowhere in the league of, and Bison keeps using the psycho power, and just one second he's there, one second he's gone. But yeah, David being big helped a lot, too. The range in the movie was so fun, because Momoa stuff is so So fun. I wish

Speaker 2

we got to hang with Momoa, man.

Speaker 1

Yeah.

Speaker 2

That'd be really cool. Was he not there when you were there? No, cause what he did, he was doing Dune as well.

Which Legendary also made. Yeah. But like him and Koji have a, a sick.

Speaker 1

Yeah.

Speaker 2

It's, yeah. His range is really

Speaker 1

fun, cause it's, it's all of a sudden, you're, I mean, Jason Momoa's in this movie, geez, such a.

Speaker 2

Momoa hit me. It's like

Speaker 1

Blanca all of a sudden, he's just Blanca to you. He like,

Speaker 2

he's like, he's like, this made me fall in love with acting again. I was like, what exactly? He's like, dude, you gotta see it. We did this thing, and like, they're seen. Bro, there's like some emotional shit in there. Yeah. It's like. The

Speaker 1

range on the movie is phenomenal. Yeah.

Speaker 2

You could tell it was so good. I don't know how you did it, but you found a way to like make the Rio Blanca fight scene, which we all have seen like in the trailer. There's like this emotional component to it later. I don't want to give away too much, but yeah, it was fine.

Speaker 1

You're already in trouble for playing that clip. No, no, no. You

Speaker 2

said it was fine.

Speaker 1

Cold face. Yeah.

Speaker 2

listen, Cody, man, I'm so excited for what's to come with you.

Speaker 1

Thank you. I'm excited for what's to come with you.

Speaker 2

I have Street Fighter coming out October 16th. That's where you have it coming out as well.

And then who knows what you're getting lean for.

Speaker 1

You

Speaker 2

know?

Speaker 1

Yeah.

Speaker 2

Are you going to play, what is it, Christian Bale's character in The Machinist?

Speaker 1

Wow. That's lean, lean, that's lean, lean. Well, we know when you get lean on screen, it looks ripped. Someone

Speaker 2

told me Brad Pitt for Fight Club was like 140 pounds or something like that.

Speaker 1

But just, just, just, not, that is, that is not

Speaker 2

him. No, bring up Brad Pitt Fight Club. He

Speaker 3

wasn't, like, we remember it different. I watched it not too long ago. He's not big. He don't look crazy. Like he looks.

Speaker 1

Look at that though.

Speaker 2

But

Speaker 3

also big people looks like somber are

Speaker 2

pretty

Speaker 3

lean.

Speaker 1

Yeah.

Speaker 2

No, but on screen, it's literally just get skinny.

Speaker 3

Yeah.

Speaker 2

Cause it's going to puff you up.

Speaker 1

That's so funny. Cause you get like real, as you kept saying on set, real porked up and porked up sometimes.

Speaker 2

Did I say that?

Speaker 1

You, you use porked up a lot on set. I

Speaker 2

feel like that was something that you were bringing to the set. You were asking us to describe you as porked. I'm

Speaker 1

pretty sure your literal line is you look pork.

Speaker 2

No, that's not.

Speaker 1

Yes, it is. You're right. I stand corrected.

Speaker 2

Yeah.

Speaker 1

But yeah, we're, we're all just getting lean and getting healthy. Who knows what projects are ahead of us and hope, hopefully we have great projects and that's fun. I'm excited for you.

Speaker 2

Dude, I'm so excited for you, man.

Speaker 1

I'm excited for you. I'm excited for everybody. Me too. Also the fact that we get together and have a night.

Yeah.

Speaker 2

One of these days we should, because you haven't even had any, I think I've had like three, you barely had one. You used to be a guy. I tried to keep it a

Speaker 1

gentleman. No, well, that's not. You used to be a guy. He doesn't really

Speaker 2

drink. He said he's. I tried

Speaker 1

to keep it a gentleman. Are you not drinking or are you on like a health kick? I smoked a wonderful cigar and I had some of your, your habiki and it was phenomenal. You

Speaker 2

had a big, you have a big day today probably. That's why you're not drinking. You have a lot of things you got to do. Sure.

Speaker 1

Yeah. I also, you. You've

Speaker 2

changed, bro. How

Speaker 1

have I changed? We always come on your couch and got sloshed and was a good, was a good like interview.

Speaker 3

Rogan.

Speaker 2

Rogan.

Speaker 1

Rogan was?

Speaker 2

Yeah. Yeah.

Speaker 1

He was

Speaker 2

on a fistful of mushrooms, half a bottle of whiskey.

Speaker 1

I don't believe that. Really? And he's able just to, it's so good.

Speaker 2

Dude, you can, you have talent, bro. You have talent. Where are we going? I don't know. The sexual tension is so low, right? Wait, wait, wait till you see Vega.

Speaker 1

Yeah, Guile in the movie does have a unique outlook on Vega and perhaps is... Don't

Speaker 2

give away too much, bro.

Speaker 1

Yeah.

Speaker 3

We're just giving away shit. We're going to watch the movie, Ricardo.

Speaker 1

Are you guys coming to... Premiere's the 12th, right?

Speaker 2

Are you going to do something?

Speaker 1

When?

Speaker 2

Like, are you going to have a Cody thing?

Speaker 1

Tell me what that means. Like, are you

Speaker 2

going to do it in your hometown or something like that?

Speaker 1

A bonus round?

Speaker 2

No, but like, you know, like a premiere.

Speaker 1

We, we, so we, because we have the premiere and then two days later, which is the 15th, I think, or the 14th. Yeah. The 14th, the one that is in Atlanta at an AMC. And I don't know if they've told anyone this yet, so forgive me. No, I think we could say that. But in Atlanta, and it may not just be any old bonus round, might be all Guile. Maybe, maybe Guile even shows up.

You know, cuz they got the AMC popcorn bucket, which is big, by the way. And the last thing I want to see online with that popcorn bucket, cuz you saw it on that day, right? The last thing I want to see online is people getting into fights in theaters because of that popcorn bucket. It's right in front of you. You saw

Speaker 2

those memes that came out. Oh man,

Speaker 1

that is such a cool popcorn bucket. That is so cool, yeah. Okay,

Speaker 2

before we leave,

Speaker 1

before we leave,

Speaker 2

not talking about anything crazy or anything future wise,

is there a time in your life you see yourself

settling down? You've been like a married,

Speaker 3

have some kids,

Speaker 2

and you trust each other, man. No, but like your life, I relate to it, man. Like I've spent the majority of my life traveling too,

Speaker 1

right?

Speaker 2

I have kids, like, but we also have a responsibility to provide for the kids. But there's also a selfishness in that responsibility. Like you've obviously earned enough to provide. But like, is there also a point in time where you go,

I'm gonna set this thing aside, or I'm gonna limit the amount of it?

Speaker 1

I think I used to have a number in mind for when wrestling retirement would come, but the way I've really grown with the current regime at WWE, and there's some unsaid heroes too, Bobby Roode, for example, and him kind of growing into a role there as a big time producer on big matches. Michael Hayes is still there doing the exact same thing, Mr.

Heyman, all that. One thing I have learned from them is they never have really taken They've never stepped back from it. They've stepped into different roles.

So if I, you know, potentially, forgive me if this is breaking news, and please edit it if I'm not allowed to share, which is fine. I just re-signed with WWE. So I'll end my wrestling career.

Speaker 2

Why would I not be able to share that?

Speaker 1

I don't know, actually. I feel like we were dealing with a lot of sensitive, but you were really good about. No, but I'll end my wrestling career with WWE, but also my wrestling career with WWE might continue because we are now, I just spoke to the New York Times about this, and this was such a great moment to share this, is we're now able to go do this stuff.

So say I do have another project, say I got two other projects, whatever it may be, I'm able to take a step, step away, and I'm able to collaborate with WWE, and I'm able to come back home. I'm just saying I'm able to come back home, whatever. I'm able to do it. You're, you're really circling this one thing. You're, you're,

Speaker 2

because I, cause,

Speaker 1

but with that said, there's, when is, when is there that settle down moment, right?

Speaker 2

Are you, I don't understand what you're doing right now.

Speaker 1

I'm just saying, I can't tell you. I kind of

Speaker 2

set you up for like one thing, and now you're just bragging. Now you're bragging. I

Speaker 1

am, I am, I am. So let's

Speaker 2

just, let's just bring it back. Yeah, it's really like of me, and I,

Speaker 1

it's my, I, I don't know when settling down is, but I can say this, and you have, you have children, so you know. My parents were there for everything, pretty much at the times I needed them to be there for everything. So I'd say like eight years old on to through everything, every game, every event, booster club, all those, all those things.

I love that they were there. I felt like I was, their business was me and my sister Teal. I'd love that for, for my two girls. So with that, it means I need to

Speaker 2

get to work. Yeah, you need to grind now so you can get to work.

Speaker 1

Exactly, till you told, you know, we were planning it earlier, till I collapse. And then I can go, cuz we've done well in our mutual spaces that we could do it now, but there's more, there's more to do.

Speaker 2

There's more to do. I'm

Speaker 1

curious,

Speaker 3

you said you re-signed with WWE. How is the pay structure with WWE, especially for like the newer guys? Cuz like we sometimes hear people like MMA complain about like pay. And I'm curious, I don't hear wrestlers really complain about pay.

Speaker 1

Well, the wrestling economy is different now because

there's other places you can go wrestle.

Speaker 3

So it's like if you're not getting enough here, you just go to one of the other leagues. Well, no, it's

Speaker 1

just the fact that the money, best way to put it, the money in wrestling and sports entertainment is very good. And I feel like if you were my dad or any of these wrestlers we talked about on that list, You'd be shocked. I, my mom didn't get it when I said, hey, X amount. She legit like- Yeah,

Speaker 2

well, your pops was grinding at a very different time. Grinding and

Speaker 1

grinding and also it, but the, now the contracts are guaranteed and all this.

Speaker 2

Very, very different time.

Speaker 1

All that means to me, and it's like, it's a huge responsibility.

Speaker 3

But let's, let's say a new wrestler just got put on, like, what does that look like? Wow,

Speaker 1

man, I don't know what our developmental, I mean, everything is, is,

is six, six figures. You know what? I'm actually, I'm defer, because Nick has a great, Nick Khan had a great quote about, these guys are going to do well, these guys are going to do really well, and then these couple guys, he named a few guys, they're going to do next level. And that next level pay is now comparable with sports. And that's the part that I'm so proud of being a wrestler because when you'd hear baseball contracts and NBA contracts and you know as a wrestler that you could go all over the world and be known and be seen, but you weren't on that level.

You were on the level of penetration, but not that level of income. Now, Modern TKO and Nick have made it that you are.

Speaker 2

But is that gonna change shit?

Speaker 1

You think that they're not, those, those contracts are not gonna go to the people who...

Speaker 2

Your dad's era.

Speaker 1

Yeah.

Speaker 2

I don't know of anybody wrestled that didn't love it.

Because they probably could have made comparable money doing something else.

Speaker 1

Sure, sure.

Speaker 2

Like it was such a passion.

Speaker 1

Yeah.

Speaker 2

And it also such a grind that you had to fucking love it. Now wrestling is at the point where you're making

sports money.

Speaker 1

It's a great way to put it, yep.

Speaker 2

But with sports money comes, there's a lot of people that play sports they don't really love that much. Now, to play at the elite, elite, elite, if you're a seven footer in the NBA, I don't know if you love it. I know some coach told you in high school, hey, you should play basketball. They say the game found them. If you're a six footer in the NBA, you found the game.

Speaker 1

Sure.

Speaker 2

So what I wonder is what happens with wrestling now that that money is comparable, do you find, will there be people who are like, oh, I didn't make it in this, but I have the physique, whatever. Let me try to figure this out. Opposed to the kid who watched wrestling their whole life, their whole identity is built around wrestling. They fucking love the game and they will find a way to succeed in this like

I mean, the roots of it are carnival-esque business. Very

Speaker 1

much, yeah.

Speaker 3

But the inverse could be true as well, right? Like if you have like a running back that has, could be an NFL prospect, but he's like, I also love wrestling. I wrestled in high school and like, what is the name of it?

Speaker 2

If the love is there. It

Speaker 3

could also be that case where it's like, well, I shouldn't go into wrestling because I can make way more money playing in the NFL. But now he's like, oh, I could do wrestling. Oh, you're right. So you could get talent

Speaker 2

that you might not have gotten.

Speaker 1

Well, one of the things with the new system, that's a good point, right? The NIL system and the tryout system is finding people who may not have found wrestling yet. The game is finding people. Oh, so

Speaker 2

you're getting them early. But

Speaker 1

Bianca Belair is a great example. The game found Bianca Belair. Bianca Belair fell in love with it.

She was exposed to the industry at NXT. It

Speaker 2

does put his hooks in them. Right, but

Speaker 1

that's the thing. If it doesn't get even a hook in you.

Speaker 2

You can't do it.

Speaker 1

Then you can't do it. You can't be successful. Because the ask of it are crazy. The other guy who came in here with me, Zach. He's seen the sheet that I have to do for the next 15 days or so. You have to love it. You have to love it. You have to love it and want it and not think about the grind to it all. And that's a great example of the game might have found her, but now she is the game.

You know what I mean? Like she is the game. And that wrestling used to be like that, actually. It was a lot of football, a lot of baseball. The money wasn't, you weren't offering them the money. You were offering them the experience. Tell stories in front of a live crowd and hear them go up and hear them go down and control them. Now you're offering them both, which is a beautiful thing.

When I was on the Netflix red carpet for the premiere of Raw, all I could think about, and I was tearing up in every interview, was all of the old carny promoters. Bill Watts, Eddie Graham, my father, Jerry Jarrett, Vince Senior, all of them. And I don't mean to say corny, but all of them thinking about that's all they ever wanted.

Speaker 2

We might

Speaker 1

break every rule here, but if they saw this, they'd go, yes, we made it. You think Tom Brady competes in WWE? I would love Tom to do anything, but I was actually just about to mention Tom, because I interviewed Tom at Fanatics Fest. And because we're asking about settling down, he offered the best answer, and Tom's one of my favorite players of all time, right? He offered one of the best answers I've ever heard in terms of why he continued to do it at such a high level.

And it's like what we were talking about with the giving back. He said, I had already won. I wanted them to win. I wanted my team to win. I wanted there were new folks. I wanted new, I wanted them to have the same experience. I'm paraphrasing here, but I thought that's it. When you get to a certain point, how now do you share that wealth? And still there's a selfish element of it.

Sure, you're still out there doing it, but Tom wants you, you have to, to be at that level. But I do feel it was honest in saying you want that, which is why the settling down aspect of it.

We would be nowhere in WWE today without some of the guys who didn't settle down, right?

Those voices backstage who collaborate with Triple H is what makes up the best product we've ever been. Wrestling fans don't love it when it's said, and they don't love it when there's a pat on the back, and they want us, you'll hear words like decline and things of that nature. Earnings reports hand over hand, it's continued to grow every year since WrestleMania 37.

It's growing. But

Speaker 2

don't you want that engagement from them?

Speaker 1

Yeah, well, that's what I meant. Don't be too smart for them. Let them have

Speaker 2

Let him

Speaker 1

creatively be mad at it. Let him be, don't be too smart. Don't get mad at what they said. Oh, Cody looked fat out there tonight. Great. Don't, I'm not, great. I mean, you

Speaker 2

do, you are taking that

Speaker 1

seriously. They bought a ticket. Like, let them have their experience. Don't coach them on how to be fans.

Speaker 2

This is one of the things I think is unique about wrestling and like its ability to embrace whatever the energy the audience brings. So the audience gets to decide if somebody is a heel or like a level, what is it, an anti-hero? Yeah, well, there's

Speaker 1

a lot of anti-heroes today. Yeah, yeah.

Speaker 2

But like, and it's the embracing of it, not the force feeding. And I feel like sometimes in like traditional entertainment, there's a forcing of things that the audience objects to, and they try to muscle it through. And I feel like wrestling just goes, oh, wait, they hate him? Good.

Speaker 1

Yeah.

Speaker 2

Oh, wait, they love that guy?

Speaker 1

Yeah. Good. We can work with that.

Speaker 2

There's a, I don't know, there's like a fluidity.

Speaker 3

It's like the OG algorithm.

Speaker 2

Low key.

Speaker 3

Yeah.

Speaker 2

No, go on that. That's a fucking great.

Speaker 3

I think like the algorithm is like pretty meritocratic in the sense that it just like prioritizes people that garner the most attention or like garner the most dis- Whether they're, whether

Speaker 2

they're negative or positive, it just prioritizes them.

Speaker 1

Yeah.

Speaker 2

And wrestling rides the algorithm before the algorithm fucking existed. The algorithm is the people cheering or booing. It's a

Speaker 3

real time algorithm.

Speaker 1

It's real time.

Speaker 2

And they're not afraid of it.

Speaker 1

It's real time. And then, but to, to the old force feed, the old element of that, of picking someone, saying you're him, you're her.

If you've got the right people who made the choice.

Speaker 2

They know how to set you up.

Speaker 1

Well, it also, they know how to set you up, but it may not happen right away.

Speaker 2

And you got to have faith in that.

Speaker 1

Don't panic. I heard somebody quote 10 years the other day, and modern fans were like, 10 years? I'm not waiting 10 years. You might and not realize it.

Speaker 2

What does that mean? Like it

Speaker 1

took 10 years for me to get to, somebody had said it took them 10 years to finally be seen in the spot.

Speaker 2

This is, this is the, you might

Speaker 1

not have, but then in 10 years when the light bulb goes off, it went off brighter than anyone else. I, I,

Speaker 2

I see this with, you know, so

Speaker 1

it's, if you have the right people making the choice, you know, and that's, that's him, that's her. I always

Speaker 2

text you guys who like I'm looking at and I think are interesting, like Javon, and I'll see him too, just like these amazing fucking things, and I'm so connected to it. And like, the, the faith that the people in charge also recognize that are going to build him in a way where When he has a belt around his waist, the audience wants him to have that belt around his waist.

And there is a difference between, and I'm not saying he's an example of this, but like, I would imagine a hot song and like a legacy.

Speaker 1

That's the whole thing. That's over versus popular.

Speaker 2

Yeah, yeah, yeah. Over versus popular. Over

Speaker 1

versus, I, there's plenty of guys who are popular and I love them. I'm glad they're on the show. Say their catchphrase, crowd reacts. But then there's over. And over sounds different. It sounds different. It's not just screaming and yelling. You hear

Speaker 2

the glass break.

Speaker 1

It's like, well, it's like we talked about Chappelle. You were just,

Speaker 2

if you can do

Speaker 1

a promo in 2026 where no one is in the ring with you, no one's there, and you're just talking and your opponent's not going to come out and there's not going to be some hot moment, you're just directly going to say in three minutes or seven minutes, whatever it may be, about a match you have coming up or a scenario, and they listen,

you're playing different. That's over. That's Over if they, and they flat out just listen. That, that, there's little things, and I don't even know. To me, it's this inescapable unicorn is what really over is. I only think maybe two guys, maybe three are, are, are over. Who?

The Rock, John Cena, and one unnamed.

Speaker 2

Is that person still there?

Speaker 1

Yeah.

Speaker 2

Copy. I think we know, I think we know. Probably,

Speaker 1

yeah. I'm not saying me.

Speaker 2

I think you're saying. No,

Speaker 1

I wasn't. That would be very Mulaney. No, would it be Mulaney? No, I'm not saying. I can't believe

Speaker 2

you've just maligned your comedy, comedy equivalent.

Speaker 1

I did I malign my boy? I'm screwed. No, but that, and I only set that as a bar, not because I want people to be like, that's such a weird absolute. I just, that's the bar we're supposed to shoot for. Like where your name announced the night before and people flood Ticketmaster to see like that, that, that's not just. A carny sales element, that's their connected to you.

He

Speaker 3

didn't want to say Roman.

Speaker 1

I didn't say anything. I'm not, I'm not trying to put, I'm not trying to create news for. You don't have to say

Speaker 2

anything. But yes, obviously he is a, yeah.

Speaker 1

Right.

Speaker 2

Yeah. Yeah, it's really interesting.

Speaker 1

Yeah.

Speaker 2

And good for the game.

Speaker 1

Yeah, that's, that, that, that, we need all that, you know, and there, there are more. I, I said.

Speaker 3

Yeah,

Speaker 1

there's four. You know, maybe, maybe four or five.

I will, I will,

Speaker 2

I know, I, you know, I don't think, I don't think you'd be against this. I don't think you'd be against this, but,

Roman's great in the movie, though.

Speaker 1

Yeah. Do you, I saw it.

Speaker 2

He's great.

Speaker 1

He, he's phenomenal. I think everyone knows that.

Speaker 2

He's so good.

Speaker 1

You, you have taken this down a road that,

Speaker 2

guys, Cody Rhodes, everybody. Oh, it is.

Speaker 1

You're a wonderful

Speaker 2

man.
