Back to Access the Sublime & Live Your Best Life | Robert Greene, with Robert Greene.
Is a Transcendent Experience Only for Rich People?
Robert Greene says a transcendent experience is not reserved for rich people, and he can bring it down to daily life, including for people who live in small apartments. The need for a transcendent experience, which is what the sublime is about in many ways, is as important a human need as clothing, shelter, or companionship, and it is deeply embedded in human nature.
The image that came to him in a little office while trying to write the book was a bird in a cage. He used to fly around and have fun, then had to accommodate himself to a cage and find a way to sing inside it. A lot of people are like that bird. They do not live in mansions or have magnificent gardens. The sublime is not an elite experience that only rich people can have. If a stroke victim whose life is so limited can find a way to the sublime, anybody can. He wanted to write the book so everybody can have access to it.
