Joe Rogan called The Big Bang Theory unusual, and he called the lead a genius. Chuck Lorre said that was not his way in. He is a college dropout, not a physicist, and not a genius, so the science was never the part he recognized.
Chuck Lorre said the characters were outliers, people who had not figured out how to behave in the real world. Being on the outside and looking in was the part he understood. He said the general attitude was that every episode had to kick ass.
