What Does Joe Rogan Say About Truth Right Now?
Joe Rogan calls it a weird time for truth, and he says everyone has to figure out the best way to engage with it. His way is to look only at things people send him. Someone has to send him something interesting. He is not seeking anything out anymore, because it is too much and too negative, and he says people drown in it.
He treats the damage as lost time. The habit takes time away, and he calls it a time suck, an attention suck, and wasted energy. He explains attention and energy across a day as units. He has 100 units. If 30 of them go to nonsense, 30 units are gone, and he calls them precious. A year holds only so many days, and a life holds only so many years.

Why Should Candidates for High Office Talk for Three Hours?
Bill Thompson says candidates for high office should talk for three hours because three hours of conversation reveals who they are. A person cannot sit for three hours and talk without revealing themselves. If someone running for high office will not come on the biggest podcast in the world and speak extemporaneously about their principles, the way they metabolize the world, and why they are fit to change it, he would dispatch with them. They are not revealing themselves. They are probably a construct, promoting an image for the public to accept, and that image is not totally real.
He wants Bernie, Trump, and Kamala in that chair. Across three hours a person talks about what is going on eve

Can Moths Pass a Learned Scent to Their Young?
Bill Thompson says a young Chinese kid proved, in physical tests on insects, that a scent memory survives the change from caterpillar to moth and is transmitted to the offspring. Joe Rogan calls it epigenetics.
The experiment started in the caterpillar stage. The scent had something to do with lavender, and encountering it brought an uncomfortable vibration, so the caterpillars avoided it. In the cocoon the body goes through an intense metabolic change, breaks down into mush, and becomes a moth. The moths still retained the memory from the caterpillar stage. Bill Thompson says it had also been transmitted to their offspring. He believes B.F. Skinner did related work with rats, using mazes a

What Does Michael Morales Weigh Before Cutting to 170?
Michael Morales gets well over 220 pounds and cuts down to 170. Joe Rogan calls him one of the scariest guys in the 170 pound division, a really dangerous monster who is enormous, powerful, and absolutely huge for the weight class.
Morales cuts slowly over time. He does not cut at the last minute. He then rehydrates and reinflates. Joe Rogan says Morales is basically like 220 pounds now. Morales looks like a light heavyweight, and he looks like a big middleweight inside the octagon. Joe Rogan calls the weight cut a death's door event. A fighter gets to death's door 24 hours before the cage fight, then rehydrates and replenishes, but not to 100 percent. Joe Rogan says there is no way to get

What Does Kaizen Mean for Jiu-jitsu?
Joe Rogan says kaizen means you continue to improve on one thing in a never-ending cycle. He says that cycle is the jiu-jitsu philosophy of a coach obsessed with getting better, and the Nissan GTR is the engineering example.
The Nissan GTR has stayed essentially the same car for 20 plus years. Nissan keeps the body shape, keeps the geometry, and keeps the all-wheel-drive sports-car layout, then refines that platform until the car is dialed. The work is constant tweaking, dialing the same car in further and further.
Joe Rogan says people apply kaizen by taking one specific platform and continuing to work on it. In jiu-jitsu, the same continual cycle of improvement is the coach's philosophy.

Why Can Some Hunters Find Deer by Feel?
Bill Thompson says some hunters find deer by feel and cannot explain the spot. His friend Johnny Stewart kills two or three big bucks every year. On a scout, Stewart will say a place feels like deer and will not cite a reason. Bill asks what he means, and Stewart says he does not know. It is just the way the place looks.
Bill Thompson hunts from a checklist. He looks for three intersecting trails, doe bedding, and two scrapes, and he waits for the thermals to come up at 830 before he gets into his stand so his scent does not paint the side of the mountain. Stewart only says the spot looks good. Joe Rogan says the split between a system and instinct is a big factor in striking too. Some grea

When Did Bill Thompson Have His Train Dream?
Bill Thompson had a train dream the night a legal matter gave him only part of what he wanted. The trouble had taken a toll for a couple of years. He went to bed angry, woke at 4am, and wrote the dream down.
Rough-looking biker types were all over the train. They mocked him and challenged him. He asked a woman to help him understand where he was, and she said he had to learn it on his own. Gunshots came from outside. He put himself between her and the shots. When the guns stopped, she started explaining the train world. A bearded man also named Bill challenged him. Thompson put him in an Americana, and the man would not quit. The woman said the other Bill had to say uncle and Thompson had t

Did NewsRadio Writers Stay Up on Drugs?
Joe Rogan says the writers on news radio did not do drugs, but they stayed awake until about 3 in the morning and then started writing the scripts. They wrote until about 6 or 7 in the morning. He would show up to do the table read, and the writers were still awake from the night before. Everybody was delirious. The writing was hilarious because it was like they were high, but they were not high. They wrote ridiculous, absurd scenarios and really hilarious lines, and they were purposely doing it under sleep deprivation to induce that state.
Bill Thompson calls the practice a heroic action, and he says it will sound paradoxical. Going into the unconscious means depriving yourself and hurting

How Did Chaos Theory Lead Bill Thompson to Dreams?
Bill Thompson got into Carl Jung and dreams while trying to learn chaos theory to impress his wife. She is a mathematician who went to Johns Hopkins, and he calls her super smart, outside the normal distribution. She was reading books on chaos theory, so he went on YouTube for videos about chaos theory.
He clicked a Jordan Peterson video about chaos and order, not chaos theory. Peterson had not blown up yet and was just posting on YouTube. Thompson watched to understand chaos theory and instead got into Carl Jung. He says he has a very addictive personality, so he started reading every Carl Jung book he could, including the collective unconscious and the red books, and he really got into dr

How Does an Evasion Course Mess With Your Mind?
After three or four days on an evasion course, with no water and no reliable meals, the mind starts doing things. Bill Thompson still does not know whether the people he saw were a dream, a hallucination, or real people whose dirt was gone by morning. A doctor who debriefs the course said he had heard the story about 15 times, including people meeting people who were not there.
Bill Thompson started the fire again to warm up and keep evading, then looked at the ground and found no footprints. He thought the people had been sitting on a log, and there was no log. In the government detention part he was locked in a cement room where he could not stand up or sit down. The room was too thin to

What Kills Most Whitetail and Elk Hunters?
Bill Thompson says not understanding thermals is what kills most hunters, especially whitetail and elk hunters. On a cold early morning the wind runs down the mountain, so animals below a descending hunter smell the hunter immediately. Once the ground heats up, the wind turns and runs up the mountain, and a hunter still below the animals has to get above them quickly or the animals blow out.
He has seen animals smell him from a hundred yards away. A friend who died in 2017 photographed whitetails and kept a deer pen in New York. A mountain stood three quarter mile from the property. When the does came into heat, bucks gathered at the base of the fence to smell wind off the mountain from doe

Why Does Hunting Feel Better Than Instagram?
Bill Thompson says hunting produces a body-level happiness that Instagram scrolling does not. He says an elk taken at 60 yards is a survival feeling built into DNA, and he thinks human reward systems are the strongest source of happiness available right now.
The picture is an elk shot at 60 yards, double lunged, then watched as it tips over. Nothing else matches that. Instagram can still make a person happy while scrolling, and a short laugh is real, but the happiness is temporary and not a body happiness. The same pull shows up in videos of people who survive, in subsistence cultures, and in Naked and Afraid. Bill Thompson's point is the cost of never choosing to eat well, train, hunt, do

What Is a Fasted Hunt With a Locked Yeti?
Bill Thompson and his friends run fasted hunts by locking food in a Yeti until someone makes a kill. They pack a cooler with drinks, food, and salads, lock the Yeti, and leave the code with one of the wives. She keeps the code until they send a photo of a doe or a buck. Until the photo arrives, the hunters drink salt water and go without food for two or three days.
On past trips, five or six of them hunted together, so a kill usually came in the first couple of days. The shortest wait was 36 hours. Bill Thompson thinks the longest stretch was four days. Except for one time, they have always killed within three days. Joe Rogan asked whether hunting wears a person down quicker. Bill Thompson

What Did Bill Thompson's Mother Teach Him About Worry?
Bill Thompson says his mother taught him the serenity prayer, and he does not worry about what he cannot change.
He says that if he cannot affect something, he does not worry about it, and he calls that a superpower. As a nine-year-old he heard a story about a seven-day bender from Missouri that ended in Las Vegas, and that lesson stuck. Last night his daughter was worried about teenager things. He told her the serenity prayer his mother used to tell him and told her to try to live by it.
Bill Thompson says the same idea is a heuristic the military taught him: focus on the things he can control.
