Back to #417 Arnold Schwarzenegger, with David Senra.
What Affirmations Did Todd Graves Hang in His Office?
David Senra says Todd Graves, founder of Raising Cane's, rebuilt the apartment he lived in when he started the company so it matched the place he lived in at 23, 30 years earlier. The pictures show him at that age. The television, the VCR, and the bedspread match the early 90s. One bedroom was where he slept. The other was the office, with old computers, a fax machine, and printed affirmations over the whole room.
Graves was brainwashing himself not to give up and to believe in himself. The lines included "nothing ever happens unless someone pursues a vision fanatically" and "a man of passion rides a mad horse." Senra says Arnold Schwarzenegger was doing the same thing in the 1970s. The mind is a powerful place, and what you feed it affects you in a powerful way. The result Senra points to is Schwarzenegger winning Mr. Universe in 1967.
