Is Michael Moritz Hopeful About AI?
Michael Moritz says he is probably a bit more hopeful than others about AI. He is absolutely certain there will be enormous disruption in particular job sectors caused by AI, and he thinks AI is going to create more jobs than are going to be lost.
He is not an expert and does not mean to diminish the dark side of what may or may not happen with AI. A form of Armageddon was predicted when the first nuclear bomb was exploded, and close to a century later that has not occurred. Warnings from the mid-1970s about the genetic revolution said scientists were going to create legions of individuals they deemed suitable to walk on the face of the earth, and that has not occurred either. In the last two or three centuries, no huge improvement in technology has led to lower employment in the long term. There have been depressions and massive disruptions in sectors, but overall employment has grown.
He is a little more optimistic because the long record still shows employment growing after huge technology shifts.
