Does Submittable CEO Michael Fitzgerald Think Startups Get Easier?
Kirill Zubovsky asks whether the work never gets easier and only changes shape. FitzGerald agrees. He keeps thinking Submittable is about to get easier, and it does for a while, until the next problem shows up. That year they hired their first vice president of sales, Brady Meltzer, from Oracle, where Meltzer had carried about a 4 million dollar quota. Meltzer put some rigor into a team of about 30 salespeople. FitzGerald was also bringing in a Missoula-raised executive from a large brand, still unnamed because she had not left that job. Adding ten people, he says, does not make a company ten times faster. It can make it slower. Getting sick after the Series A made the same point.
