Which Other Montana Entrepreneurs Does Michael Fitzgerald Name?
FitzGerald tells Kirill Zubovsky that small-town Montana is more entrepreneurial than Silicon Valley or New York, because for years the only steady jobs in Missoula were professor and doctor. He names Dennis Washington, the Montana billionaire whose yacht was in the harbor. Washington started by digging trenches, then bought the equipment so other people could do the digging. FitzGerald also points to newer local companies. ClassPass is in town. onX Maps had just raised what he calls a 23 million dollar Series A, which he says is a first for Missoula. Orbital Shift is building shift-management software. The old local aim was to make rent. The new one is to build a large company.
