How Does the Box Agent Use Company Files?
Aaron Levie says the Box agent reads company files to answer questions, extract metadata, turn unstructured documents into structured data, and automate steps in a workflow. Box built a platform that deploys agents against the unstructured data it stores.
Early models were enormously helpful, but the cost was insane and every workflow needed its own hyper-trained model, so Box shelved the work. A few years later Box paid attention to GPT models, then the chat form factor hit: ask a question and get an answer of increasing complexity and length. Box jumped all in, put its best people on a team, met every day, and built an AI stack that became the Box agent. Box sits on hundreds of billions of files, including contracts, research files, marketing assets, and loan documents. Companies rarely know what is inside unless someone opens the document and searches.
Box also uses agents to create content. An online collaborative product lets an agent generate any amount of content. The more exciting work with OpenAI and Anthropic is advanced document creation and PowerPoint. Their technology will stay at the frontier, so a Box agent interacts with the OpenAI and Anthropic systems to produce a high-quality PowerPoint.
