Sonia Dara asks Jonathan Sposato, author of Better Together, how a company actually builds the family-forward culture he lists as a retention idea. He says the book gives that idea its own chapter, a grab bag of seven or eight items. Some are policies. He borrows a Steve Jobs point: policies and laws are just people's ideas, so once you see that, you can change them. Some are physical, design choices in the space that help employees do the job. He says the best versions are often simple. The first policy he names is refusing to start meetings before 9 a.m.
