What Are Claude Managed Agents?

Katelyn Lesse says Claude Managed Agents are a suite of APIs for defining an agent and starting a session with it, for people who want to run agents from code without standing up the infrastructure themselves.

The Messages API is raw token access. Managed Agents sit above that. They skip setting up the harness and a lot of the surrounding work, so the integration is closer to out of the box. The platform team runs the APIs and the foundational product infrastructure. One sandbox fleet backs Claude Managed Agents and other products. Those products do not share a harness. They share the infrastructure that runs the execution and the APIs, and the harness on top is allowed to differ.
