How Does Rob Snyder Treat the Pull Framework?
Rob Snyder treats the pull framework as upstream of a product idea. He looks for a person who is trying to do something right now and would find it weird not to buy. He keeps a notebook of product ideas, including an idea for an API for APIs, and the ideas all sound unhinged, so the product pitch alone never tells him which idea is good. He stakes a claim that one specific person is stuck, talks to them, and watches whether they try to buy even before a product exists. For him, the pull framework is a hypothesis about who has pull, then a test of that hypothesis.
He does not think founders take the stage seriously enough. If a founder's life depended on it, 10 customer interviews for 30 minutes on Zoom would not be enough. The alternative is to go all out and go in person. Friends of his have done the job with a potential customer to feel the pull firsthand. They have built something they would buy themselves, or embedded with people to find the moment when someone will act because the person is trying to do something and is stuck.
