Back to 3: the Montessori Method.
How Can a Public-school Teacher Start Using Montessori Methods?
Asked what a third-grade teacher could steal first, Benedicte Bossute tells Jennifer Gonzalez on Cult of Pedagogy to build a few explorative stations in the humanities and the arts, the subjects public schools have cut back. Set a larger project at the start of the week so children who finish early can follow an interest on their own. That frees the teacher to sit with the children who need one-on-one time. Bossute's warning is about the bullets on a standards list. They are easy to teach as separate items, and they are not integrated. Using an education, she says, means connecting those pieces.
