How Did Ari Emanuel Answer Michael Ovitz in the Office With a Chair?
Megyn Kelly says Ari Emanuel moved to Hollywood, got a mailroom job, and first worked for an agent who impressed him. He listened in on the phone calls. CAA then told him he was too old for its mailroom, because he was 26 and everybody else was 21. He got the job, worked up to junior agent, and started getting clients. A group decided to leave CAA. Megyn Kelly calls it the shop of the god of agents, Michael Ovitz, and says Ari Emanuel went in to resign to his face. A Northwestern friend he thought was an ally ratted him out the night before and then admitted it.
Ari Emanuel walked in. Michael Ovitz said he could not see him. Ari Emanuel came back about ten minutes later. Michael Ovitz was in the room with Lee Gabler. Ari Emanuel puts Michael Ovitz on the Mount Rushmore of talent agents with Lou Wasserman. Michael Ovitz said the career would be over and that he would take Ari Emanuel down. Ari Emanuel had nothing prepared for the most powerful man in Hollywood. He stood up angry. The back of a chair had a hole. He picked the chair up and asked, are you threatening me? He says it looked a little crazy, and maybe more than a little.
