Why Does Ari Emanuel Say Dyslexia and Rage Helped Him Find an Identity?
Megyn Kelly says Ari Emanuel is the youngest brother. Rahm Emanuel has been on the show. Zeke Emanuel, a doctor and an architect of Obamacare, has been on her show at Fox. She says everybody knows Rahm Emanuel as Obama's chief of staff, the mayor of Chicago, and ambassador to Japan. Growing up, Ari Emanuel thought Zeke Emanuel was the smart one and Rahm Emanuel was the cunning one, and he was just the last. Very bad dyslexia and ADHD left him without the swagger.
Ari Emanuel says his mom put their grades on the refrigerator. He learned from Sally Shaywitz at Yale that dyslexia does not mean a person is stupid. The person organizes words, letters, and sounds differently. ADHD was hard in a family where reading mattered, and his mom never gave up on getting him to read. He says the rage was about getting to an identity, because his brothers had one, and about proving he was not dumb. He tells parents to let dyslexic kids struggle, because the struggle builds emotional endurance. For him, dyslexia has been a blessing. It made him a free thinker, and it has helped him in business and in trusting the people he works with.
