Will AI Replace Doctors?
Mark Cuban says doctors should not be replaced, and he does not think they ever will be. A person who tries a new personalized medicine and gets sick still needs a human in the room, with all five senses, who can see a crying parent or child and add that to the context. A video or a robot is behind the moment. The model has latency, and someone still has to know which questions to ask and which variables matter.
Julie Yoo says abundant care advice will make more people demand a real visit, so the country will need more doctors, and the work can look more like a physician-scientist dealing with data that exists for one person and not yet for a population. Mark Cuban says the sharp change is medical school. Doctors will not be taught the same list. They will learn tools such as OpenEvidence, read a DNA file, and translate what a model thinks into words a patient can use. For the system to work, he says, each person has to have a model of their own.
