What Should We Cherish Before Mind Uploading?
Mustafa Suleyman says the world built by human intelligence should be cherished first for the 8 billion people alive today, ahead of von Neumann probes and mind uploading centuries from now.
Models have learned a huge amount without experiencing anything. They can produce magical things just by observing the record of human interactions, culture, politics, and history. They still do not know what his morning cup of tea tastes like. They also miss the human connection of putting arms around someone and saying hi after a couple of years apart.
Biology evolved the intelligence that produced the world around us. The priority now is welfare for the many people who need it. Mind uploading and von Neumann probes can wait many centuries.
