Why Is AI Only Book Smart?

Mark Cuban says AI is not smart because it is only book smart. Book smart means a person who can read a book, remember what is in it, and get A's on tests by memorizing everything. Smart means aggregating information and inputs, knowing where to look for the inputs, taking them, and identifying the problem you are trying to solve. AI does not do that.

He says you have to be in real time. During the conversation he did not know which questions Steven Bartlett would ask, and AI is missing all of that. There is no way to feed AI everything humans have access to. If he is a doctor and Steven Bartlett is there, access to every research report and article speeds the visit up. Then Steven Bartlett pukes all over him. AI cannot help with the puke. Mark Cuban cannot ask AI what is wrong with Steven Bartlett. He has to use his senses, look, take his experience, and be smart enough to ask the right question.

Steven Bartlett asks what evidence would make him say AI is smart, including recursive self-improvement where it starts improving itself. Mark Cuban says it would take a minimal-resource AI that can ask and solve questions with minimal resources, the way a brilliant 12-year-old from the worst part of the world can, with no access to resources, finding sources and figuring things out. He says he does not think we reach a point where AI can do the work with no resources, even with more GPUs, more power, better algorithms, and recursive self-improvement where it teaches itself to try to get better.
