What Does Oren Zeev Do in a Typical Week?
Oren Zeev's typical week is a board meeting or two, a few founder calls, and long open stretches, including time in the ocean. He does not count the meetings. Told about investors who talk to eight founders in a day, he calls that insane. Once a firm measures deal flow, it starts optimizing the number, including the boast that it saw 8,000 companies and did one. He tries to see as little as he actually needs to see.
Monday on the week he described was yoga and one board meeting. Tuesday was a company call, a CFO candidate, time helping a founder, a surf, and one more call. The day of the recording was two board meetings, a call about an investment he was making, and this conversation, done at 3:30. The next day was one board meeting at 7, set early so the ocean window stayed open, and a haircut. Five or six founders a day still text asking for five minutes, and he answers within minutes or seconds. They tell him he is by far the most responsive.
He agrees with the people who say this is not real work. He calls it a hobby he takes seriously, a pastime he loves. Work, in his meaning, is what you do because you have to provide for a family, and he does not have to do this.
