Should a Banker Have an Uneventful Day?
Darragh Buckley says a banker should have an uneventful day, the same way an air traffic controller should. People do not want excitement from air traffic controllers. A boring stretch where nothing happened is the point. A banker should enjoy uneventful days, with a quiet satisfaction in reliably and regularly getting things done as expected.
The personality suited to a quiet day works well in banking. The biggest events in banking are generally not something anyone wants to see on a daily basis. Banking belongs with the underlying utilities of society, electricity and water among them. It is okay, and in fact good, when the utilities are uneventful.
Infrastructure should have no events. It should simply work, as it always does, all the time. Operators, builders, and maintainers who value steady, reliable work can be well suited to it.
