How Much Do Home Depot Pros Spend Each Year?
Ben Gilbert says the average Home Depot professional customer interacts with the company 66 times a year and spends $6,500, while the average DIY customer interacts about five times a year and spends about $330. Some professionals spend hundreds of thousands of dollars a year. The comparison is a 2015 figure.
Home Depot went after people with a high willingness to pay for the best, including anyone who wants a tool for 20 years and wants what the pros use. The company hired dedicated salespeople and stood up a pro desk in a lot of stores. It started pro pricing, bulk deals for customers coming to the pro desk. Bulk pricing is available to DIY customers too if they buy in a certain amount. It also began job site delivery so a builder would not have to load a car or rent a truck. Professional customers went on to become a giant driver of the business.
