Why Are There So Many References To Dragons?
Ancient people were conscious of the ever-present threat of chaos, particularly on the waters. The land was safe but the waters were dangerous. Chaos became personified as a dragon because sea monsters live there. God tames the monster to show power over chaos and bring order to chaos. Order allows civilization to develop.
