Back to Koen & Jorn: Framer Reloaded, with Koen Bok & Jorn van Dijk.
Why Did Framer's Revenue Stall at Five Million?
Koen Bok and Jorn van Dijk say early Framer revenue reached a million, then three, four, and five million, and then growth slowed, the opposite of what had to happen. Five years ago the goal was triple, triple, double, double. Framer was not tripling after 4 million. Getting stuck at 5 million did not look like a path to a company that could IPO or become the new Adobe.
Venture capital was part of the pressure, and their own ambition to build a significant company was the larger part. Funding works as a forcing function. Without it, founders can grow 20% a year, pay themselves market plus, keep going for a few years, and feel bored later. When a company is not doing well, the investors tend to write it off, which buys time to continue or to pivot. The mechanics are more useful than venture capital usually gets credit for.
