Why Did James Dyson Start His Own University?

David Senra says James Dyson started a university of his own because he was not getting anywhere with the education system in his quest to raise the number and quality of engineering graduates. Dyson demands difference in everything and would not copy whatever other universities are doing.

There are no tuition fees. Undergraduates work three days a week with Dyson on real research projects alongside young Dyson engineers. They receive a proper salary, and teaching fills the remaining two days. When the undergraduates complete the four-year course, they will be debt-free.

Dyson persevered under 20 years of crushing debt and signed over every last possession he owned to finance his dream. He would not saddle young people with crushing debt. University, in his view, should be the actual work instead of taking tests.
