How Did the Cursor Deal Come Together?
Martin Casado says the Cursor deal came together off a raise that was already closing, once building models required compute few people have. Cursor was about to finish raising a few billion dollars when Mythos came out. Working backward, Mythos probably cost about $3 billion to make. Building models meant Cursor needed more money and access to that compute, which opened the strategic conversations.
Interest followed because Cursor had by far the most users and by far the most data. SpaceX had the compute. Cursor had the data and a team that had already built models, and code mattered. The raise helped set the price. The deal was fairly straightforward.
