S1E10 - 'Sunday Night 11.55pm'
Belinda and Peter continue their awkward dalliance in the lobby of 'The Horse and Jockey' in full view of the CCTV. And Peter reveals a shocking twist...
Notes
-
The chapter opens in the lobby of The Horse and Jockey, not in a bedroom. Belinda Blumenthal and Peter Rouse are still on the sofa around midnight. She asks him to take off her riding jacket and shirt. He strips those clothes, folds them, and sets them on a nearby table with the riding crop. The lobby is quiet because the other guests have gone to bed. Jamie, James, and Alice keep flagging the security camera and its red light. Belinda tells Peter to massage her breasts. The scene continues the lobby encounter from the dinner chapter, with the camera still running.
-
In the Sunday-night chapter at The Horse and Jockey, Belinda asks Peter Rouse for her glass of Chardonnay. She drinks it in one go, pours the last drops over herself, and rubs the wine into her skin before beckoning Peter to taste it. Jamie, James, and Alice have heard Rocky Flintstone use alcohol this way earlier in Belinda Blinked, and they treat it as a repeat. Belinda stays calm, as if she has done it before. While this is happening she notices the camera still recording them. The book says Peter, no minor figure when it comes to sex, has never been so taken with a woman. The wine in question is the end of that glass.
-
At first, it was to seduce her, but now, something is different. He speculates if he has met his equal in his sexual symbolic world. He wants to show dominance over Belinda, but then realizes he doesn’t want to do that while they are in the hotel lobby.
-
It's unexplained, but jokingly, the hosts say that this is Peter’s noncommittal way out so he can claim that he noticed Belinda in her state if someone happened to notice them.
-
Belinda is completely naked while Peter Rouse is completely dressed, and the hotel camera is still on them. She laughs and says, "Pass me my riding jacket and boots." The jacket covers her breasts. The leather boots cover only her lower legs and feet. Peter calls the result very daring. The hosts point out that the boots do nothing for everything the jacket leaves bare. He picks up the unfinished wine in its ice bucket. Walking past reception, they ask the young man there for a nightcap as well as another bottle, and he pours them each a brandy.
-
Back in the room at The Horse and Jockey, Belinda takes off her red jacket and asks Peter Rouse to pull off her riding boots. He tells her to sip the brandy first. He then says he wants to have sex with her while she keeps the boots on, because they are "extremely sexual in their own way." Jamie, James, and Alice call it a boot fetish and joke about where those boots have already been. Peter gets undressed in the 25 seconds Rocky Flintstone bothers to time, and lies down beside her. The garment he wants left on is the leather riding boots, not the jacket.
-
Because it appears that the characters keep grabbing Belinda’s— which is something that should not be grab-able. If you’re grabbing that, then there’s something wrong.
-
Peter has a wife. He claims they both didn’t expect him to be out for so long. Either Belinda knew or just didn’t care about this detail.
