Arvind Narayanan says that more than 20 years ago, automated systems became superhuman at finding software vulnerabilities. They made cybersecurity better because defenders used those same tools to find and fix vulnerabilities before shipping software. He says the development of those offensive tools is done by the cybersecurity industry and funded by the US government.
