Why Does Arvind Narayanan Say Artificial Intelligence Has No Single Superintelligence Threshold?
Arvind Narayanan describes a view that a moment will come when superintelligence is built and will change everything on the economic front and the safety front. He says there will be no milestone and no threshold where the impacts are sudden.
He says the long-standing approach treats technology as a tool. It may be powerful and general purpose, like electricity or the Industrial Revolution, and it may change a lot about society, but people can control it and have agency, and the change unfolds over a long period.
