What Four Events Equalize a Society?

Joe Rogan says four things cause equality to happen: war, revolution, civilizational collapse, and pandemics. Anyone wishing for equality is wishing for one of those, and he says the result is terrible.

People are so divided, he thinks, that it almost takes an attack before they come back together. A shock like another 9/11 might do that. Inequality is the force Peter Turchin describes as bringing civilizations down. A pandemic, he thinks, did some of that leveling for a little while at the start, when nobody knew how severe the disease was and the country was locking down. Everyone went through the same experience. It did not stay uniting. It turned into a tribal split, including over vaccines.
