How Much Debt Does the AI Complex Owe?

Chamath Palihapitiya says the AI complex now owes $340 to $400 billion to the market, and the entire United States economy is levered to that complex. Seven or eight companies set the tone for the whole country.

The most important companies in the world were highly profitable, highly cash accretive, and highly cashflow generative. They have put the foot down on spending because they believe in what is coming, and that spending drives GDP and growth. The spending depletes cash, so they have to raise debt. Microsoft has halved its debt while everybody else has gone to an unbelievably crazy high number. Raising so much money starts to crowd out the capital markets, and the part it crowds out is the appetite for government treasuries. The money AI firms need to raise through the end of 27 is 30% of all the Treasury is about to issue in that same period, so they are going to start competing for demand.
