Why Is One Better Buyout Pick Worth Token Maxing?

Parag Agrawal says one better pick among business opportunities creates so much value that heavy compute is worth it. He gives a semi-hypothetical firm that buys out businesses. That firm can use Parallel and models to run what feel like simulations on criteria it sets, spend a lot of compute, and build a rational list of opportunities, then choose the better ones.

Before, the same firm looked across categories of businesses and across neighborhoods and cities, then used gut and human judgment to narrow the field to four or five interesting opportunities and did extra work on those. Capital and people limit how many buys can be finished in a year, and the biggest job is deciding which ones to pursue. The old search pruned the space down to a small intuitive set. Parallel and models now put real information about each opportunity in front of the buyer before the final pick.

He says the next year of growth is not only making today's work faster or cheaper. The draw is entirely new ways of operating businesses that have existed for a long time. He points that growth back to what it takes to make the result a thousand times over, and he says that work was not happening yesterday.
