Back to Andrew Huberman - The Frontier of Neurotechnology, with Andrew Huberman.
Why Are Technologists Becoming Neuroscientists?
Andrew Huberman says the technologists who used to only engineer things are becoming neuroscientists, and that the field has always gained when people arrive from outside it. He has spoken with Sam and calls him extremely sharp about the brain. He says the same of Zuck and of Andreessen. Elon, he says, understands what Neuralink can do now and where it still has to go. He also names Dario, whom he has never met, as someone who came up through neuroscience into a related field, even where Huberman disagrees with what he hears from him about AI.
A brain is not a computer. Outsiders learn that, he says, as soon as they put their hands on one. Bioengineers are getting very good anyway. He puts Eddie Chang, Neuralink, and Matt McDougal in that work, and he calls Sam, Zuck, Dario, and Elon the big four, the athletes of brain exploration. Most people, he thinks, do not realize that. The excitement is the point. A better definition of waking brain states is still the gap he wants closed, because a field that leaps ahead then crowds, gets noisy, and only later produces tools people can actually use.
