What Is a Reverse Centaur?

Molly Graham says Cory Doctorow's centaur is a human head in charge of an animal body, and a reverse centaur is an animal head in charge of a human body. People want AI they control: they stay in charge, and the AI does their bidding. The reverse centaur is the arrangement to fear, because the AI uses the person.

DoorDash people and Uber people already live in the reverse-centaur world, and it is not the funnest life. The same pattern might expand to knowledge work, which matches a lot of people's fears. Humans would still be very valuable, but they would be controlling agents while AI tells them where to build and what to do, and then the AI does the thing.

The split is about who gives the orders. A centaur keeps the person directing the tool. A reverse centaur leaves the person carrying out work the machine assigns.
