Why Throw a Funeral for Work You Loved?

Molly Graham says sometimes you need to throw a funeral for work you loved, because the funeral is there for a reason. Take a minute to mourn what was, then ask what you could love that way again, and what you could be extraordinary at, if the machines are doing the old task. Both can be true at once. You can be sad about what you lost, and there can be opportunity in what is coming. The miss is skipping the grief and telling people only to get excited about the future.

She ties that minute of mourning back to giving work away. Be comfortable with the job changing, and expect that it will almost surely be okay. Growth comes from trying and from letting go. The funeral makes room for that. It is not a reason to fight the change.
