What Is a YouTube Channel Promise?
Colin Rosenblum and Samir Chaudry say a YouTube channel promise is the back half of the welcome line. Welcome to the M. Night Shyamalan YouTube channel, where viewers get thoughts they have never heard, behind the scenes of the movies he directed, or reactions to modern Hollywood. The channel has to be clear about what it provides.
M. Night Shyamalan is new to YouTube. The first video is him talking about what he is doing. The follow-up is him reading a diary from filming Signs. The third video is a commencement speech he says he has never watched. The diary is access. The speech turns the channel into a dumping ground, and breaking the promise hurts. Strip the names away and the channel is the same shape as a famous athlete opening an account. A movie director should give camera advice or behind-the-scenes filming. Nobody is asking to hear that commencement speech, and other channels have already posted it.
The first video still gets some credit. He wanted a space where he could be not great and experiment. The Signs diary is well shot, with a documentary feel.
